Happy 8th Birthday, Pupsters!

Image
Our Pupsters turn eight today! I can't believe it! I always love their birthday because this trio was able to grow up together! Watching them play and interact with each other from puppy stage to now 8-year-old puppy stage, has just been an amazing experience. They have such an amazing bond. They each have their own special traits and quirks, and yes, they have a bossy older sister (Bandit), just like siblings do, but they all love each other and eat, play, and sleep with each other with so much trust and love, it just warms my heart. They always loved their big brother, Gibson, and Harley immediately took on the role of surrogate mother when we brought these babies home!  I recently read somewhere that someone was looking for help raising two littermates, and one of the comments suggested she quick rehome one as it is never a good idea to welcome two puppies from the same litter into one's home. Ha! Rubbish, I say! My three are so wonderful, and truly bonded. Do they ...

Wolf likes what he sees...fresh organic strawberries! Oh, it's such a wonderful time of year here for berries! Strawberries are ripened red and huge, as  you can see in this photo with Chloe! And the blueberries are oh-so plump and sweet! If your dog is anything like our FiveSibes, they love some berries mixed in with their food, or a sweet treat made with berries! Since it's almost summer, what's better than a cool fresh berry treat?            Bandit enjoying her frozen berry treat!                        Are Berries Good for my Dog? As with any new foods introduced to your dog, always consult your veterinarian first. Certain berries, in moderation, can be a healthy additive to your dog's diet. According to a University of Alaska study with sled dogs, "Blueberry supplementation did elicit significantly elevated anti...

Tasty Tuesday Treats for Cinco de Mayo!

Image
The air is filled with lively music, laughter, and singing as it echoes all around our neighborhood. One can't help but to start dancing! It's Cinco de Mayo and one of our local restaurants is having a street festival and we are fortunate enough to enjoy the sounds from the comfort of our own backyard!  To celebrate on this Cinco de Mayo Tasty Tuesday, we are sharing one of the FiveSibes favorite prepared treat and even a Siberlicious recipe from our fabulous baking friends over at House Woof Dog Biscuits in Vermont! Up first, of course, is our Gibson's namesake treat...   Gibbie Snacks were formulated by House Woof with the Epi-dog (canine epileptic) in mind. Named after my Epi-Husky "Gibson," these are formulated with no wheat, no rosemary, and no preservatives (all possible triggers for seizures), and no salt (always important, especially if one of the medications an Epi-dog is on is Potassium Bromide). They are made of only the freshest in...

A Birthday Fit For A Queen! Harley's Birthday Book Giveaway! A Tasty Cake Recipe!

Image
Today is a very special day as it is our alpha queen Harley's 10th Birthday! It's so hard to believe that a decade ago the beautiful pup named Nanuk "Harley" Mari with the intense mask and bright blue eyes came into our lives and introduced us to this wonderful, crazy, loving, howling, fun-filled amazing world of Siberian Huskies! Harley is my daughter's first dog, and not only is she our family's first Siberian Husky, but she is who kicked off the Siberian Husky Potato Chip Syndrome in our home as Gibson followed a year later, and then the three Pupsters Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit two years after Gibson and the FiveSibes were born!  Harley at 7 weeks and today! Harley is such an amazing dog. Not only is she super smart, super fast, and full of Huskitude, she is also very sweet and can turn on the charm in an instant if it suits her. She rules the roost and commands respect from the other four, with Gibson madly in love with her since the day he came ho...

And just what is the Krewe of Barkus ? According to the Hall of Festivities Mardi Gras , the Barkus Krewe: "... was created in November of 1992 at a meeting of the Margaret Orr Fan Club (Margaret Orr being a WDSU-TV Weather Anchor). Its membership limited to canines, the Krewe of Barkus is headquartered in the vicinity of the "Flea Market" and includes such rules as: "Cats, while welcome, will not be provided security."  Photo courtesy of Lillian Malm The first official Krewe meeting was held in January of 1993, when the members elected "Jo Jo McWood" as Queen Barkus I.
