A November Epi-Tip for Fall Back Changes

Image
Flashback Photo of Gibson 2010 November marks Epilepsy Awareness Month and along with my posting FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong Epi-tips, resources, books, and some fabulous Epi-Stars throughout this month, November also sees the end to Daylight Saving Time, a time for clocks to "fall back" in many areas on November 4th at 2 AM EST. So, my first important Epi-tip of the month is if your Epi-dog (dog with Epilepsy) is on specifically timed medications, you will want to adjust his schedule a few days ahead of time, or at least for the first day of the new time change, stagger the dosage times. For example, if your pet typically gets his medications at  7 AM and 7 PM, for the first day of DST, give the AM dosage at the new fall-back time of 6:30 (true time would be 7:30, a half hour later than usual), and give the 7 PM dosage at 6:30 (true time would be 7:30). That way, while their internal clock says it's a bit late, their system can adjust to the "new" t...

Dear Gibson: A Letter From Hu-Mom, With Love

Image
Dear Gibson,  A year ago today, you physically left me and your # FiveSibes family to become a furangel. God must have needed a very special Husky because he called you north of the Rainbow Bridge, my sweet Gibson. I love you and miss you every single moment...you are forever in my heart and with your spirit walking by my side, we will continue inspiring others to love an # Epidog , and to help all dogs in need. Enjoy the forever snow, my sweet Gibbie.  ~Love you for always,  Hu-Mom     This is a very special Flashback Friday as it is also the first anniversary of  my dear, sweet, fluffy boy Gibson’s journey to north of The Rainbow Bridge. It’s so surreal to me that a whole year has passed and my boy is no longer physically here by my side. Gibson was my heart dog. My fluffy buddy boy. My spirit guide. My Epi-dog champion. My inspiration. He has truly left a huge polar bear pawprint of his on my heart for eternity. ...

Thanking a Friend on a Wordless Wednesday

I was so moved by the thoughtfulness of fellow BlogPaws member and blogger Bryn Nowell of A Dog Walks Into A Bar  for contacting me over the summer asking to create something special in memory of my sweet Gibson, who will be celebrating his first anniversary North of the Rainbow Bridge on December 16th  After sending her one of my favorite portraits of Gibson I had taken, Bryn surprised me with this beautiful painted replica on canvas. I just love it so. Many woos of appreciation and heartfelt thanks go out to this wonderful gal who really brightened up my days! Pictured here with the portrait of Gibson are his younger brother Wolf and the love of Gib's life, his girl Harley.  Oh, how I miss my sweet boy, not only during the holiday season, but every single day of the year. He will always, always remain with me in spirit, walking by my side in our continued advocacy for Epi-dogs and Canine Epilepsy Awareness. #LiveGibStrongForever Thank you, Bryn. You certain...

What Causes Seizures? Important Answers for Epilepsy Awareness Month ~and~ Tips for Daylight Saving Time!

Image
With November being Epilepsy Awareness Month, today's Flashback Friday photo is of my beautiful, sweet Epi-dog angel, Gibson, the face and inspiration behind our #FiveSibes #LiveGibStrong K-9 Epilepsy Awareness Campaign. Gibson embraced life, no mater what challenges came his way. His is a story of inspiration and hope for others who love dogs that are living with Canine Epilepsy. May they all #LiveGibStrongForever. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~Winston Churchill   This month I will be sharing and highlighting information on Canine Epilepsy to help others who are on this journey or who have dogs who are having seizures know where to turn and what to do to help their canine companion. Always remember, while it is scary to watch your beloved dog have a seizure,  you are not alone. There is much support and information out there. Not sure? Just drop me a line and I'll be happy to steer you in the right di...

Feelin' Cool in the Pool on a Flashback Friday!

Image
"What are you waiting for, Mom? Tur n on the hose!" We are in the middle of a sizzling heat wave here in upstate New York! Today the temperature was 93℉ with a heat index of 122℉! No weather for dogs, especially Siberian Huskies! While my Huskies were all relaxing inside the cool air conditioned house, with quick jaunts outside to do their business, take a quick splash in their pool, and quickly retur back to the cool confines of the house, my thoughts went to my sweet wooly angel Gibson. He did not like the warm weather, let along this brutal heat. Plus, being an Epi-dog, a canine epileptic, heat and overheating can trigger seizures, so keeping him cool was always a top priority, as is keeping all the Huskies cool. Oh, but he did love the pool! This photo is a flashback to three years ago, the summer of 2013, and is one of my favorite photos of Gib. When I pulled out one of the kiddie pools, washed it off, put it down on the deck and then turned around to pull some m...

Flashback Friday Fondly Looks Back at Gibson's First Wonderful Puppy Days...

Image
With Purple Day® for Epilepsy happening tomorrow, Saturday, March 26, and earlier this week was National Puppy Day, I thought this would be a good day to spotlight my beloved, beautiful furangel, Gibson, as my Flashback Friday feature. Strolling down Memory Lane to 10 years ago...to April of 2006...when I shot this photograph of my big, fluffy, fuzzy, happy wooly Siberian Husky boy at just four months old and on his second day as part of  my family! What a cutie pie! This is one of my favorite first photos of him, and sitting here now, missing him, I can close my eyes and see this moment so clearly. He was so happy, right from the start...and especially after meeting his true love, Harley! (This was taken right after the two of them had a good romp and run around the yard together!) It would be another almost three years before he was to begin his journey on the road called Canine Epilepsy. Through all of his life, Gibson greeted each day with this big, happy beautiful smile o...
