Beautiful Butterflies!

Hi There! I am here today with a step by step tutorial for this journal page.

I began by spreading matte medium over the page and adding scraps of map, music paper and book pages. I also added some tissue that had been used to mop up some distress oxide sprays (Wild Honey and Salvaged patina)
Next I smooshed some cracked pistachio over the whole page.
Using the Dinkable from set 13, I added some uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide and inked around the edge of the page.
I also added some texture paste through the dinkable from set 2
Once the texture paste was dry I gave it a little spray with uncharted Mariner Distress spritz, tilting the page to make it run, before setting aside to dry.
On a separate piece of card I stamped the doodle art butterfly twice in Memento ink and coloured with alcohol markers. I cut these out.
using the stamp without an acetate block I added the antennae and body of the butterfly to the page twice. I also stamped a couple of one of the small worker stamps by the page edge.
Finally I added the butterflies, some white splatters, a wordy sticker and some gelly roll moonlight pen highlights to the page.
Here is the page once more...
...and here is a close up of one of the butterflies.

I used:
5x5" notebook
Scraps of book paper, music, map, tissue or catalyst card
Distress Oxide inks - I used Cracked Pistachio and Uncharted Mariner
Distress Spritz - I used Uncharted Mariner
Memento black ink
Alcohol markers
Posca pen for white splats
Wordy stickers - I used 2B

I think this fits the the theme on our bee Crafty Stamps group challenge at the moment, which is Vivid. Hope you can join in!

My Favourites

Hi There! Our new challenge over in the Bee Crafty Stamps facebook group is to show us your favourites, so I thought I would use my favourite colours, favourite stamps and favourite inkables to create a journal page. Here's how I did it.

I began by painting waves of my favourite colours of acrylic paint across both pages.
Next I added some white gesso with a stencil brush through the Bakewell big one inkable.
Using Tag inkables set #1 I added some black gesso with a stencil brush.
I decided it needed lifting a bit so added a little gilding wax to the black gesso.
Next I stamped one of the doodle art mandalas using versamark ink and embossed in gold embossing powder.

On a separate piece of card I stamped the sunflower in Black versafine Clair ink, Cut it out and coloured with ecoline markers.
I also cut out words and circles from the latest releases of transparencies and attached to the page with matte medium. Finally, I added a simple border using Gelly Roll pens and some white splatters.
Here is the finished page again.
I used:
Dylusions mini Journal
Acrylic paint - I used a mixture of Dina Wakley and Dylusions
White gesso
versamark ink
Gilding wax
Ecoline pens
Transparencies - I used Beautiful and Brave words and Journal Circles 1

I hope this has given you some inspiration to enter the challenge!

Swallow mixed media tag

Hi there! Thought I would indulge myself in a bit of messiness since I can access all my craft stuff now! I decorated an MDF tag and this is what I did.
I began by giving it a couple of coats of gesso.

Whilst it dried I mixed a few shakes of Mars explosion powders with some translucent distress crackle paste in a milk bottle lid (You won't need any more than this)
I applied it with a palette knife through the tag inkables. This was set aside to dry naturally until the crackles appeared (There will be little or no crackle if you use a heat gun)
I sprayed the tag with Dylusions and metallic spray stains. I also added a few shakes of explosion powders before setting aside to dry. At this stage a few bits did flake off, so once dry I sprayed it with a spray varnish.
On a piece of white card I stamped and coloured the swallow using versafine clair ink and ecoline pens. I then cut it out using the matching die.
Next I stamped the mandala in versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder. I coloured it with ecoline pens and cut it out
I added the swallow and the mandala to the tag using gel medium, then added a sentiment and a ribbon.
Here's a close up of the crackle

Here is what I used:
Versamark ink
Spray varnish
scraps of card for the bird, sentiment and mandala
Ribbon

If you are in Notts or Derbyshire, I am running a workshop at PDA Card and Craft, Langley Mill on Wednesday 13th July to make a mixed media tag using these stamps and inkables. If you would like to join us you can book by ringing Kayla on 01773 712266

A Dreamy tag

Hi There! Thought I would show you how I made this mixed media tag today.

I began by Gessoing an MDF tag.

Next I added some Distress matte texture paste through a texture disc. Alongside I smoothed on a thin layer of the crackle texture paste too.
Once this was dry I sprinkled liberally with Atlas and Elf explosion powder and spritzed with water, before setting it aside to dry.
On a piece of mixed media card I stamped and gold embossed the mandala 3 times, cutting out layers on each one.
I used ecolines and a waterbrush to colour the layers
Once these were dry I layered them with ultra thick gel medium onto the tag.
I brushed a little Gilt paint around the edge of the tag and added a ribbon, a gem in the centre of the mandala and a sentiment.

And here is a close up of that texture!

Vintage tulip journal page

Hi there! I had the urge to do a bit of a vintage collage the other day, so teamed it up with some old papers, fabric and lace to make a journal page. Here is how I did it.

I began by tearing some papers and sticking them as a patchwork onto a journal page using matte medium.
once this was dry I brushed over a coat of gesso and set aside to dry again.

on a piece of tea-stained calico I stamped the tulip using versafine clair grey ink.
I painted the tulip with derwent inktense blocks.
using the tag inkable I added some walnut stain distress ink to the gessoed page.
next I stamped some mandala circles in vintage photo distress ink on the fabric....
and onto the page.
I also added some of the ink around the frayed edge of the calico
I drew a rough rectangle slightly larger than the fabric panel in pumice stone distress crayon onto the page where I wanted the tulip to go, smudging it with my finger.
I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment onto a strip of collage paper.
finally I added the tulip panel, a strip of braid and the sentiment to the page using matte medium
And here is the finished page. I rubbed a little gold distress crayon on the tip of my finger over the braid to tone it down a bit.
I used:
A selection of papers
Calico or smooth cotton
Versafine Clair grey ink
Inktense blocks (you could use watercolour pencils or inktense pencils for this)
Versamark or embossing ink
lace/ braid

This is a great way to use up some scraps of papers and fabric. Thanks for looking!
