Hearse - In These Veins

Genre: Death'n'Roll

4th album by Hearse. A clever combination of death metal technicality with rock 'n' roll sensibility, into a sound that is catchy without compromising their death metal roots. There is a bit more of a rock vibe to this in places, but not to the point of distraction. The guitars are nice and heavy, with some punishing, groovy riffs and some really good leads.

Merciless Death - Evil In The Night

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2006

1. The Abyss
2. Realm Of Terror
3. Evil Darkness
4. Tombs Of The Dead
5 .Death Warriors
6. Cult Of Doom
7. Tormented Fate
8. Fall To The Pentagram
9. The Gate
10. Summoning Of The Ancient Ones

Debut album by Merciless Death. Super catchy trash metal. Raging and relentless. The album is only 25 minutes long, but what a ride. The music barely gives you time to take a breath, it's fast, heavy and nails you to the ground to the very last second, while the vocalist does thrash vocals the right way - clear, loud, yet harsh and aggressive, without forgetting the occasional high pitched scream. A heavy Kreator influence and definite early Slayer.

7. Reduced To Ashes
8. Christ All Fucking Mighty
9. Flabby Little Things From Beyond

Debut album by Death Breath. Nicke Andersson gets together with Robert Pehrsson, they invite Repulsion singer Scott Carlson to sing on some tracks. Former Entombed bassist/former Grave singer Jörgen Sandström also sang on a couple. The album is the three rotating vocalists, giving the songs more variety and depth with each listen. The guitars sound dirty and the bass is muddy, giving the album a down-to-earth, raw feel.

PC Death Squad - Eternal Ignorance 'Ep

Genre: Thrash/Crossover
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2006

1. Hella Sick
2. It's A Rager
3. Defcon V
4. Fuck The World Amazing
5. Death Machine
6. Ragenomics
7. I Drove To Seattle And All I Got Was A 3 Seconds Handjob

Great 'Ep by PC Death Squad. 14-minute self-released EP by what basically amounts to a "joke" band. There's some serious thrash/crossover metal action going on here. It's rooted in complete sarcasm and at times immaturely embellished humor, but for the most part said humor is actually amusing here.

21. The Day Hell Came to Town 22. Dying Cable
23. Moonwalk Massacre 24. Victims of the Cat 25. Ladies Night/Birdo Might

3rd album by Birdflesh. It is essentially pure old-school grind worship in the vein of Napalm Death, with lots of heavy riffing, blastbeats and really short songs, but Birdflesh tends to do it in an enjoyable manner beyond what one would expect. The riffing is usually very straightforward and easy to follow. The arrangements of the riffs and drum work will keep your head banging and blood pressure rising.

Yakuza - Samsara

Genre: Progr. Heavy/Sludge
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2006

1. Cancer Of Industry
2. Plecostomus
3. Monkeytail
4. Transmission Ends… Signal Lost
5. Dishonor
6. 20 Bucks
7. Exterminator
8. Just Say Know
9. Glory Hole
10. Back To The Mountain

3rd album by Yakuza, featuring a number of guests, including Minsk bassist Sanford Parker, pianist Jim Baker, cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and Mastodon guitarist Troy Sanders. Yakuza’s crucial point is their inclusion of saxophone and clarinet. Some parts sound like classical metal, some parts very chaotic. Blending electric and organic instrumentation is never easy, but Yakuza can maintain an adequate balance of the aggressive, the experimental and the melodic throughout the course of an entire album.

2nd album by Misery Index. Here the band infuses death metal with a hardcore punk attitude and in your face political and social lyrics. Astounding musicianship combined with sheer brutal technicality. The songs are fast paced walls of sound, with a thick guitar sound, virtually inexistent bass, awesome drumming and very tasteful vocals.

I - Between Two Worlds

Genre: Heavy/Black
Country: Norway
Year: 2006

1. The Storm I Ride
2. Warriors
3. Between Two Worlds
4. Battalions
5. Mountains
6. Days Of North Winds
7. Far Beyond The Quiet
8. Cursed We Are

Debut album by I, a project consisting of Abbath (Immortal), TC King (Ov Hell, Sahg), Armagedda (Demonaz) and Ice Dale(Demonaz, Enslaved, Ov Hell). They play some slow, melodic riffs, simplistic drums and groovish bass lines. Abbath delivers similar vocals as he does in Immortal, except slowed down, with a Lemmy or even Rob Miller of Amebix fame twist. Though the majority of the songs are slower in pace and more simplistic than other offerings from these band members, the delivery is solid.
