Happy Fall, Y'All

Even though the temperatures are currently in the 90s, autumn is right around the corner.  Because Karen Burniston's new Whirly Wheel die is so much fun, I thought I'd like to make an autumn card using it,  Her Autumn Elements set was the perfect accompaniement.

The matching Whirly Wheel sentiments stamp set has three one-word vertical sentiments that fit perfectly on the strip.  I attached a piece of acetate to the top of the strip and glued on several leaves from Autumn Elements.  The "Happy Fall, Y'All" is from a very old, retired stamp set from MFP Stamps, which is no longer in business, but I use stamps from those sets quite often.  The grass along the bottom was cut using KB set Nature's Edges.

Here's a little video showing the Whirly Wheel in action.

I recently discovered white acrylic paint pens, which work so much better making accents than white gel pens.  I used an acrylic paint pen to make the arrows on the Whirly Wheel and the accents on the pumpkin, acorns, and picture frame.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

Happy Thanksgiving

I was playing with the new Karen Burniston Postage Pop-up yesterday and pulled out several other sets to go with it.  On the front of my 5" x 5" card I used both Autumn Elements and Word Set 7 - Autumn.

On the inside you'll find the new Postage Pop-up.  I have found that I like the look of sponging through the openings in the main die so that there is a rim around the layering pieces.  I again added pieces from Autumn Elements (the pumpkin), as well as Oven Extras (the cooked turkey), Picnic Elements (the pie), Feathered Animals (the other turkey), and Word Set 7 - Autumn.  Celebrate is a die of its own, and the two small leaves are stamps that I found in my stash.

This is a real fun, generic die set.  You could use it for any purpose.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.  This month we had a choice of two themes -- "AUTUMN or CHRISTMAS CHEER."  I decided to choose "AUTUMN."

One of the new dies just released was the Postage Pop-up.  I haven't used it much, so I decided to give it a little love today.  On the front I just let some pretty fall leaves have center stage.  I cut out the centers of the four "postage stamps" and let them show through.  The sentiment is from a Simple Sentiments stamp set from Taylored Expressions.

But on the inside, I added some Thanksgiving symbols to the stamps.  The simple pop-up box under that panel raises it up.

I think I used all the dies in the Autumn Elements set on that collage.  The turkey on the smaller pop-up is from Feathered Animals.  The "Happy Thanksgiving" is from Word Set 3 - Holiday.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you come back agin.

Thanksgiving Turkey

I wanted to make a quick Thanksgiving card for my long-time neighbor, so I pulled out the Karen Burniston Landscape Rectangle Accordion.  I used some Photoplay fall papers that I had on my desk from having made another card earlier.  I think if I had to do it over again, I might have used different background paper on the center sections, but what is done is done.  I do like that little acorn from KB Autumn Elements on the front though.

Although you can make longer accordions with this die set, I like the way a two-panel accordion looks.  It gives lots of interest but doesn't take long to put together.

I hope she likes this.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Jack-O-Lanterns

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge, and this month's theme is JACK-O-LANTERN.  How appropriate -- with Halloween right around the corner.  I pulled out several Karen Burniston Halloween sets to decorate my card, a slimline card featuring the Little Labels Pop-Up set.

The front of my card is relatively simple, with a Jack-o-lantern made with the pumpkin from the Autumn Elements set with the face cut with one of the dies in Halloween Elements.

But the inside is a bit less simple.  I love that skeleton from the Skeleton & Bat set, dressed up with a top hat and bow tie.  I used two of the brand-new Halloween Borders set to span the card.

You'll be seeing more of those Halloween Borders.  I love them!

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peek - Day 3

My card today uses the new Oven Pop-Up and Oven Extras sets.  These sets are so cool with all their little bits and pieces.  We're all cooking and baking in the fall -- especially when Thanksgiving rolls around.

The front of my card shows off a previously released set called Autumn Elements.

But when you open the card, there is a fully stocked kitchen with upper and lower cabinets, drawers and even a brick backsplash.  I brought some more of those Autumn Elements in from the front of the card on the "Happy Thanksgiving" sentiment oval.

By the way, the oven door opens to reveal a turkey roasting inside.  My Thanksgiving oven doesn't look like that however because my son deep-fries our turkey!

I've seen several creative kitchens made by the rest of the design team.  I hope you check them out.  And be sure to check in on our Blog Hop next Monday.  There are many chances for you to win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston website.

CCEE2237 First Day of Autumn

Kelly continues her gig as hostess for the CCEE Stampers this week by telling us that today is the first day of Autumn.  Her challenge was simple -- create a fall themed card.

I used one of the brand-new dies from Karen Burniston for my card -- the Label Charm Pop-Up.  I love this die set and have been making many cards with it since I received it.  Using some pretty fall papers and Karen's Autumn Elements die set, here is what I made to celebrate the beginning of fall..

Be sure to check out the CCEE Stampers blog for some more fall inspiration.

CCEE2147 - Thankful Leaves

Kelli finishes up her month as hostess for the CCEE Stampers with a great challenge.  She said that, because it's Thanksgiving, we should create a card with a thankful theme -- bonus points for using a leaf/leaves somewhere on our cards.  I guess I get lots of bonus points!!!

I made this birthday card for a dear friend whose birthday was last month.  She loves cards with leaves on them.

Check out the CCEE Stampers blog to see how the rest of the team handled this delightful challenge.

Karen Burniston New Release Sneak Peeks - Day 3

For today's sneak peek, I am again using the new Karen Burniston Little Labels Pop-Up and showing a slimline Thanksgiving card.  The front of the card is a piece of scrapbook paper with the sentiment from Word Set 2 (Birthday) and Word Set 7 (Autumn).

Again, the action is on the inside.  Karen has lots of small dies that will fit on these cute little Labels.  The pumpkins are from Autumn Elements, and the turkey is from Feathered Animals.  You might notice the trim along the bottom of the pop-up.  That, too, is from a new set of Border Blends.  It's called Border Blends - Trims.  And, of course, I used the new Crosshatch Labels for a place to sign.

This is a fun release.  I am getting slightly addicted to that Little Labels Pop-Up die.  it's so versatile.  Be sure to check back tomorrow for another sneak peek.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Window Cards

It's time for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge again.  This month's theme is "Window Cards."

One of my go-to dies from Karen Burniston is the Katherine Label Pop-Up because it's so versatile, and I used it on my card today.  I cut the "window" using the Crosshatch Circles, making a frame with a couple of the circles as well.  As Thanksgiving is this month, that was my theme -- you can see that cute turkey (from Feathered Animals) through the window.

I had added a leaf from Autumn Elements in the upper left-hand corner and carried it over to the inside as well.

Do you know that old saying "There are no mistakes in card-making, only opportunities for creativity"?  Well this is a perfect example of that.  I somehow got an ink smear on the inside of my card below the circle window.  So I just cut a piece of the patterned paper that matched the front of the card and added it below the window.  I think it works!  There are more diecuts from Autumn Elements on the inside as well.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you like my card.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek 5

You can tell I love to make Halloween cards, and this new Karen Burniston release has given me ample opportunity to do so.  Again I am using the Character Add-ons 1, but I made a couple of slimline cards today.

I became a fan of teal pumpkins several years ago.  These were made using the pumpkin from Autumn Elements.  I also used the Happy Halloween sentiment and shadow.

On the inside you'll find one orange jack-o-lantern and one teal jack-o-lantern.  I tried to use magnets to hold the card closed, but there was too much pressure from the pop-ups, so I cut a piece of orange cardstock to fold over from the front of the card to the back, attaching two velcro spots to hold it closed.  In order to camouflage the white velcro spots, I used an orange Copic marker to  color them.   I added a couple of bats from Halloween Scene and the Boo sentiment from Halloween Elements.

I made a second slimline card, this one just a bit different.

As you can see, the front panel covers just half of the inside.  There is one jack-o-lantern inside.

These new dies will be available on Monday.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Autumn Slimline

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge, which this month is "Autumn Slimline."  I was so happy when I received the dies in the new Karen Burniston release -- there were several slimline dies in the mix!   The card I have today uses the Long Rectangles - Crosshatch, as well as the Mini Pops Pop-Up dies.

I love warm colors, particularly orange, and they lend themselves so well to autumn/Thanksgiving cards, which is what I have today.  I added a few other KB dies on this card -- the squirrel from Woodland Animals, the leaves from Autumn Elements, and several words from Word Set 7 - Autumn.

I used most of the Mini Pop-Ups on the inside, along with several images from the Autumn Elements set.  I can see where these small pop-up elements are going to be used lots of times in the future.

If you're a slimline card lover, stay tuned because I will be having several more cards made with this and the other slimline dies in this release.

C4C559 - Non-orange Pumpkins

Rebecca Ednie finishes up her month as hostess for the Crazy4Challenges blog by telling us that she loves decorating her home in the fall with pumpkins of unusual colors.  Hers are purple, ivory, and gold.  For this week, she asked us to make a card or other project using pumpkins or gourds in any colors EXCEPT yellow or orange.

This was a fun challenge.  My pumpkins or purple, cream, and teal.  The front of the card is heavyweight acetate, allowing the pumpkins take center stage.

I used the Karen Burniston Rockin' Rectangle to make my card.  So, when you open the card, the colorful pumpkins pop out at you.

See what colors the rest of the team chose for their pumpkins by visiting the Crazy4Challenges blog.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peek - Day 1

It's always fun to be able to share new things with you.  Karen Burniston has a new release of dies, which are available for pre-order right now and will begin shipping the first week of November.  One of the new die sets is a slimline die (Long Rectangles - Crosshatch).

I used this die on the first card I have to show you this week.  In addition to the new slimline die, I also used dies from Autumn Elements.  To create the orange-blend color in the center of the panel I taped off the edges with some Purple Tape and brushed on the three shades of orange.  This gave some dimension to the card without adding an additional layer.   I then "built" the little cluster of elements in the corner.

One of the dies in this set is the long banner on which I stamped the Lawn Fawn Scripty sentiment.  Then I added the little crystal owl.

I hope you like my first sneak peek.  Be sure to come back tomorrow for another one.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- Autumn

It's Designer Challenge day for the Karen Burniston team.  This month's theme is Autumn, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation.  For my card I chose Thanksgiving and used the Rockin' Rectangle and lots of fall colors.  All of the images are from Autumn Elements, and the sentiment is from Word Set 7 - Autumn.

I added a bit of whimsey on the inside, with Bennie the Cow on the Rockin' Rectangle, some stamped harvest images from KB Riley and more words from Word Set 7.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today.  I hope you liked my card.
