Surf's Up!

I'm loving the new release from Karen Burniston.  One of the new dies is Beach Elements -- perfect for a Floridian!  Today's card features this set and the monkey from the Monkey & Lion set.  The front has a serene beach scene with the beach umbrella and surfboard from Beach Elements.

But the sentiment promises a little more action -- the monkey is taking on the surf.

FYI, that monkey actually faces the other direction if used as it is cut with the die.  But I turned it over and used the back so that his tail is trailing along behind him as he rides the waves.

The middle set of waves are attached with strips of cardstock cut, scored and formed into two cubes -- very similar to the mini pop-ups in Fireplace Extras 1.  I trimmed the waves in one spot so that the surfboard could sit flat on top of the left-hand pop-up.  I cut two slits in the surfboard and inserted two small strips of cardstock which were glued against the front of the pop-up cube.  They were covered with the front set of waves, as you can see in this photo.  The strips stick up far enough for the monkey's feet to be glued to them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today to see my surfing monkey.

Karen Burniston New Release Day 2 - Fence Add-on

This new release from Karen Burniston includes two add-on sets to be used with the Landscape Rectangle Accordion set.  There is a Fence Add-on and a Cupcake Add-on.  Today's cards are made with the Fence Add-on.

My first card is a three-panel one, with two fence features and one original panel.  The small flowers are included in the Fence Add-on, and the vines are from the Monkey and Lion set.

Here is a close-up, showing how the fence is added to the original panel.  After cutting the Landscape Rectangle panel, the ends of the inner panel are removed and the fence is glued onto the remaining pivot strip of cardstock.

During a discussion with the Design Team, Karen Burniston mentioned an alternate way of using this Fence Add-on -- half fence/half original panel.  So I decided to give it a try.  Here is the result.

As you can see, only the center section of the card contains the Fence Add-on.  The outer halves of the inner panels are from the original die-cut.  The flowers on this card are from another new set, Fun Flowers.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge -- MOD Valentine

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge.  This month's theme is "MOD Valentine."  We were to make a Valentine card in colors other than red or pink.  As purple is one of my most favorite colors, that's the color I chose.

Using several new dies from the January release, I created this slimline Valentine card.  The front has two cute little monkeys swinging on the branches across the top, sending you some love.

On the inside I used the new Heart Collage pop-up.  As you can see, there are several different sizes of hearts in this cute set.   The previously released Photo Collage is one of my favorites; and, when Karen designed this smaller version, I was so happy.  Now I can combine it with a slimline card.  Also new is that large heart from the Crosshatch - Heart die.  It's the perfect place to add a little message of love.

We'd love for you to play along with the team and create a non-tradiitonal Valentine card for our #missionpoppable challenge.

One Last Karen Burniston Sneak Peek

Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  Several of the new Karen Burniston dies lend themselves to this holiday of love quite nicely.  I've got a mini slimline card today, showing off the new Mailbox Pop-Up and one of the new sentiments -- Sending Love.

That cute little monkey is also new, half of the Monkey and Lion die set.

This is the last of my sneak peeks, but be sure to check out our Blog Hop on Monday.  You'll get several chances to win a $25 gift certificate to the Karen Burniston web store by commenting on each of the team's blogs.
