October Karen Burniston Designer Challenge

Karen Burniston just had a special new release of five new sentiment stamps -- just in time for the October Designer Challenge, the theme of which is "Peek-a-Boo."  When she released the Arch Pop-up several months ago, she said she thought it would make a cool monster.  So I took her up on her challenge by making a monster and including a couple of the new stamps from the set Halloween Phrases. The front just has the Happy Halloween w/Shadow set and one of the Border Blends.

But the inside has lots of dies -- the Arch Pop-up for the body of the monster, the pennants from the Graduation Elements, the bats from the Halloween Borders, the eyes from the Mini Ball Pop-up, the Boo from the Halloween Elements, and the rectangles from the Rectangles Crosshatch.

And you can see that I met the challenge theme by having my monster saying "Boo" when you open the card.

I was glad to accommodate Karen and her wish for an Arch Pop-up monster!

Aug-toberfest

I was watching the Today show this morning, and they were talking about a current phenomenon I had never heard of before -- Aug-toberfest.  It seems Halloween has arrived two months early.  All kinds of decorations are appearing in the stores in August now.

So I was inspired to make a Halloween card using the Lorna Label and one of the new Add-ons, as well as some previously released Halloween sets.  It seemed a little odd to be making Halloween cards when it's 98 degrees outside, but what the heck!

I probably won't make another Halloween card until October, but this was fun!

Thanksgiving Turkey

I wanted to make a quick Thanksgiving card for my long-time neighbor, so I pulled out the Karen Burniston Landscape Rectangle Accordion.  I used some Photoplay fall papers that I had on my desk from having made another card earlier.  I think if I had to do it over again, I might have used different background paper on the center sections, but what is done is done.  I do like that little acorn from KB Autumn Elements on the front though.

Although you can make longer accordions with this die set, I like the way a two-panel accordion looks.  It gives lots of interest but doesn't take long to put together.

I hope she likes this.

Halloween Fence

As I have mentioned before, I love making Halloween cards.  I don't get many trick-or-treaters where I live, so I make cards and mail them out to my family and friends.  Today's card was made with the Landscape Rectangle Accordion and the Fence Add-ons, along with several Halloween sets.

The front of the card has the cauldron from the new Witch and Cauldron with one of the Small Sentiments Halloween on it.  I added the skulls from the new Halloween Borders and a jack-o-lantern from the previously released Halloween Elements.  You can see a skeleton peeking out from inside the card.

The inside of the card has a few more Halloween elements.  Again I used the skulls from the Halloween Borders.  In addition to the cauldron, I also added the witch.  She wasn't tall enough to be stirring the pot, so to speak, so I made a little stepstool, using one of the trapezoids from the Surprise Ball Pop-Up.  It gets her high enough to mix her potion, which includes some interesting items.

To balance out the witch, I added the skeleton on the other side of the card.  I made a sign using another one of the Small Sentiments Halloween and attached it to the fence with two small brads.  I added the two jack-o-lanterns at the bottom, and I was done.

I really enjoyed making this "spooky" card.

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Jack-O-Lanterns

It's time again for the Karen Burniston Designer Challenge, and this month's theme is JACK-O-LANTERN.  How appropriate -- with Halloween right around the corner.  I pulled out several Karen Burniston Halloween sets to decorate my card, a slimline card featuring the Little Labels Pop-Up set.

The front of my card is relatively simple, with a Jack-o-lantern made with the pumpkin from the Autumn Elements set with the face cut with one of the dies in Halloween Elements.

But the inside is a bit less simple.  I love that skeleton from the Skeleton & Bat set, dressed up with a top hat and bow tie.  I used two of the brand-new Halloween Borders set to span the card.

You'll be seeing more of those Halloween Borders.  I love them!

Karen Burniston New Release Blog Hop

Hi Crafty Friends,

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products - KB Riley LLC September Release Blog Hop. The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 9 new dies. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

This release includes:
  • 2 new Script Sentiment Die Sets
  • 3 new Border Die Sets
  • 2 new Pop-up Die Sets
  • 1 new Add-on Die Sets
  • 1 stand alone Die Set
Dies are available to order now on the website.
I love to make cards for Halloween, so I used the new Stocking Pop-up die and several other Halloween dies (both new and not-so-new) to make my card for the hop.  One of the new Halloween dies is the Witch and Cauldron.  What I like about the witch is that she is in several pieces, so you can use her in many different ways.  In this case, she's standing behind her cauldron stirring the pot.  BTW, the same die is used for her hair and the fire!  Two other new dies are on the front of my card -- Small Sentiments - Halloween and Halloween Borders.

There are dies from several different Halloween sets used on the inside -- as well as the Stocking Pop-up.  The pop-up mechanism animates those two ghosts behind the house.  The skulls along the bottom and the two Jack-O-Lanterns are both part of the same Halloween Borders set as the spiders on the front.

Here is a short video so you can see how the pop-up mechanism works.

Karen Burniston Sneak Peeks -- Day 1

It's time to get the excitement going -- new release time from Karen Burniston.  My first sneak peek uses a Christmas die set -- Stocking Pop-up -- but for Halloween.  It just shows that Karen's dies are very versatile.

Actually, this card was made with several new dies besides the Stocking Pop-Up.  The sentiment on the front is from a new set called Small Sentiments - Halloween.

On the inside are a couple of new sets -- Halloween Borders (those spiders across the top and bottom) and Witch and Cauldron.

This short video shows how the mechanism for the Stocking Pop-Up works.  As you open the card, the contents of the cauldron pop up.

I appreciate your stopping by my blog today.  Be sure to come back tomorrow for another sneak peek.
