Happy Birthday, Walt Simonson!

Walt Simonson's birthday was this past Wednesday. If you ever wondered how much Ol' Groove loves the handiwork of Walter Simonson, just check out any of the 66 (this will make 67) posts he's featured in here on DotGK! There's a reason the Marvel Bullpen nick-named him "Wondrous"! Here's a huge pile of spectacular Simonson masterworks for you to ooh and ah over--then go check out all those other posts to give it all some context--and yourself added joy! Happy 74th, Mr. Simonson! Groove City loves you tons!

Random Reads: "Stay Tuned" by ? and Villamonte

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Here's the lead story from Gold Key's Twilight Zone #60 (September 1974), "Stay Tuned!" Ol' Groove doesn't know who the writer is, but they sure came up with a cool idea--one that tied into our TV culture and gave new meaning to turning someone on (or off)! Stand-out art by Ric (Beowulf) Villamonte, to boot!

Random Reads: "The Isle of the Dead"

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! "The Isle of the Dead" was the cover feature for Gold Key's Twilight Zone #53 (September 1973). It's a creepy and cool story, and in true Twilight Zone fashion--its creators are mysterious as well. I've done some research, and have found the artists for the other features in TZ #53 (Adolpho Buylla, Luis Dominguez, and Jack Abel), but have found nuttin' for this ghostly gem. Oh, well, enjoy the mystery as you spend a few moments...in the Twilight Zone!

Thanksgiving Feast 2017! "Why So Pale, Henry Lad?" by Celardo and "Burnt Offerings" by Barr and Delbo

To all our Groove-ophiles in the U.S.: Happy Thanksgiving! To the rest of ya: Happy Thursday! Today's the day we feast on fun comics that were released during November during the Groovy Age! Every 6 hours today, Ol' Groove is gonna unleash comicbook goodies upon yer waiting eyes and brain! Are you ready? Then here we go!

We're starting our 2017 feast with a double-shot of sci-fi fun! "Why So Pale, Henry Lad?" was written by an unidentified Gold Key author and gloriously illustrated by John Celardo (who drew many a cool Batman tale in the later 70s) for Twilight Zone #54 (November 1973)...

For Thanksgiving in 1980 DC's revived Mystery In Space #116 gave us an extremely cool cover by Jim Starlin with a cool Mike W. Barr story illustrated by Groovy Age DC mainstay Jose Delbo. Here's hoping your Thanksgiving meal doesn't include any..."Burnt Offerings!"

See ya again at 6:02 a.m. for a light breakfast, baby!

Random Reads: "The Plague!" by Warner and Bolle

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Here's a fun sci-fi shocker from young John Warner (who'd go on to co-create Bloodstone and edit for Marvel's magazine line) and seasoned vet Frank Bolle from Twilight Zone #59 (July 1974). Look out! Here comes..."The Plague!"
