Black and White Wednesday: "Requiem for a Haunted Man" by Conway, Heath, and the Crusty Bunkers

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! We haven't dug a Ka-Zar adventure from Savage Tales for waaaaay too long, so let's do it now! Here's a good'un from Savage Tales #10 (March 1975) called "Requiem for a Haunted Man!" Story by Gerry Conway with art by the incomparable Russ Heath and The Crusty Bunkers (including, natch, Neal Adams)! All this and a Boris Vallejo cover, too!

Black and White Wednesday: "The Secret of Skull River!" by Thomas, Starlin, and Milgrom

Hail, Groove-ophiles! Here's a teaming Ol' Groove would have loved, loved, (and I do mean) LOVED to have seen more of: Roy Thomas, Jim Starlin, and Al Milgrom on Conan! Do ya remember this one from Savage Tales #5 (May 1974)? Plotted by novelist John Jakes,  "The Secret of Skull River!" has e-ver-y-thing you want from a great Conan story: it's spooky, violent, trippy, brutal, funny, and sexy (don't blush when you get to page 13!).  Ol' Groove has a dream that Marvel, now that it has the rights to Conan back, will wake up and hire Roy, Jim, and Al--each and every one of whom are still producing magnificent work--to do some new Conan tales. Wouldn't that be far-freakin'-out?

Groovy Posts of Christmas Past: The Savage Barry (Windsor-) Smith

Happy Holidays, Groove-ophiles! For the rest of the week we're gonna be showcasing Posts of Christmas Past--in other words, re-runs or reprints of some of Ol' Groove's fave posts from Decembers other than this one. ;D Hope you enjoy 'em!

This one's from December 26, 2012!

Happy Holidays, Groove-ophiles! How 'bout some Barry Windsor-Smith to groove to as we wind down from our big Christmas day? The early issues of Savage Tales were filled to the brim with Barry's sensational stylings--from the scintillating splashes of "The Frost Giant's Daughter" and "Red Nails" to the pieces of Conan art used to decorate ads, articles, and such. Wanna see?
