Funny Stuff: "Badger's Baby Brother--Beastley!" by Drake and Adams

Good evening, Groove-ophiles! Groovy (You Won't Believe What I've Dug Up This Time) Agent here with an eeeeaaarrrrly Neal Adams job for DC Comics on (in case you couldn't guess) Adventures of Bob Hope (#106, June 1967). This wild and wacky tale features the (almost) legendary Super-Hip, as well as a group of Universal Monsters parodies. Author Arnold Drake's story is over-the-top wacky, loaded with sight gags, pratfalls, and snappy patter. It's Adams' art that really steals the show--as usual. Prepare to meet Bob, Super-Hip, Dr. Van Pyre, Frank N. Stein, and most of all... "Badger's Baby Brother--Beastley!"

Funny Stuff: "Pussyfooting With the Pussycats" by Doyle, DeCarlo, and Lapick

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Here's a rare book-length Josie and the Pussycats tale for ya! Ol' Groove has gotta fess up: Archie Andrews is not, nor has he ever been, my favorite redhead. I dig Arch, and he'd be a great pal, but Josie was always my favorite Riverdale redhead. Anywho, besides being a book-length adventure, another cool thing about Josie #49 (May 1970) is that it's almost like a preview of the Josie and the Pussycats cartoon that would make its TV debut the following September. Lots of the elements of this story would become part of the cartoon's formula--kinda like Frank Doyle, Dan DeCarlo, and Rudy Lapick are showing Hanna/Barbera how to do the right thing when "Pussyfooting With the Pussycats!"

Funny Stuff: "Dr. Deranged vs Deadpan!" by Thomas, Colan, and Grainger

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Roy Thomas and Gene Colan (with inker Sam Grainger) brought us a doozy of a supernatural, super-hero parody in Not Brand Echh #13 (February 1969). Can ya believe..."Dr. Deranged vs. Deadpan!"? (And how 'bout that Spookter cameo?)
