Dig it, Groove-ophiles! In The Amazing World of DC Comics #15 (August 1977), Anthony Tollin wrote a nice, photo-filled article encapsulating the history of DC heroes on live-action TV. Later in that same ish, Mark Evanier gave us an excellent essay on TV's Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter! All those facts and photos came under a gorgeous Mike Nasser (now Michael Netzer) WW cover. And heeeeeere it is!

Our Pal Sal: "Sound of the Silencer" by Evanier, S. Buscema, and Simons
What it is, Groove-ophiles! As hard as it is to believe, Captain America's pal, the Falcon, was around for about a decade before he ever got a solo story (outside a rare Cap-less ish of the Star Spangled Avenger's own title). To rectify that sorry sitch, Mark Evanier wrote a cool story for Marvel Premiere #49 (May 1979) that allowed Sam Wilson to strut his stuff and called it "Sound of the Silencer" (methinks Mark might be a Simon and Garfunkel fan). The story was drawn by, of course!, Our Pal Sal Buscema with inks/finishes by a young and oh-so-talented Dave Simons (R.I.P.) on one of his earliest pro jobs. Teen Groove thought Sal and Dave meshed quite well, with Sal's action-packed pencil-power coming through loud and clear. Still think that's the truth! It ain't a classic by any stretch, but it is a fun diversion--complete with a hoot of a Frank Miller/Klaus Janson cover. Check it out, baby!

Countdown to Halloween 2010! Groove's Faves: Jack Kirby's "The Psychic-Blood-Hound"
What it is, my Groovy Ghoulies! Here's another one of those forgotten faves Ol' Groove loves to excavate from the files of the far-out! This macabre masterpiece was intended for the second issue of Jack Kirby's legendary b&w mag, Spirit World. Plotted by Mark Evanier (though, according to an interview, Kirby tossed out the entirety of Evanier's plot--keeping only the marquee title, "A Piece of the Action"), laid out by the King, finished, inked, and lettered by Mike Royer here it is from Forbidden Tales of Dark Mansion #6 (April 1972)..."The Psychic-Blood-Hound"!
And hey, just 'cause Ol' Groove loves ya, baby, here's the tumultuous text-page that goes with the perilous presentation you previously perused!

Those Groovy Saturday Mornings: Alex Toth's Space Ghost! Will Meugnoit and Dave Stevens' Herculoids!
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Ya thought it was wild when Disney bought Marvel? Well, back in the Groovy Age, Marvel got some practice playing nice with other companies' cartoon cavorters when they licensed Hanna/Barbera's line of comic cut-ups. It was a short-term deal, but there were a few true gems that actually came from the Marvel/HB partnership. Take for example TV Stars #3 (September 1978). I'm talkin' Alex-freakin'-Toth applying graphite and ink to his beloved Space Ghost, baby! Oh, and just for fun, how about Will Muegnoit and a pre-Rocketeer Dave Stevens supplying the art for a Herculoids short? Can your eyes handle the splendor? Will your mind be able to fully take in this sublime experience? Of course you'll pass this titanic test! You're Groove-ophiles!

And thanks to Mark Evanier for supplying these stupendous stories for those leviathans of lead!
