Funny Stuff: "Pussyfooting With the Pussycats" by Doyle, DeCarlo, and Lapick

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Here's a rare book-length Josie and the Pussycats tale for ya! Ol' Groove has gotta fess up: Archie Andrews is not, nor has he ever been, my favorite redhead. I dig Arch, and he'd be a great pal, but Josie was always my favorite Riverdale redhead. Anywho, besides being a book-length adventure, another cool thing about Josie #49 (May 1970) is that it's almost like a preview of the Josie and the Pussycats cartoon that would make its TV debut the following September. Lots of the elements of this story would become part of the cartoon's formula--kinda like Frank Doyle, Dan DeCarlo, and Rudy Lapick are showing Hanna/Barbera how to do the right thing when "Pussyfooting With the Pussycats!"

Funny Stuff: "Stroke of Luck" by Doyle, Goldberg, and D'Agostino

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! It's back to the beach, and during the Groovy Age, the only way Kid Groove could get sun and sand was in an Archie comic! Pep #258 (July 1971) has a fun "on the beach" story featuring Archie and Reggie vying for the attention of the lovely young nurse at the first aid station. You can guess the shenanigans to come, but hey, it's fun stuff by Tom Doyle, Stan Goldberg, and Jon D'Agostino! Face it, tiger--you've had a..."Stroke of Luck!"

Funny Stuff: "Freezer Plan" by Doyle, Lucey, and Stone

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! This story reminds me of my wife who loves ice cream--especially in cold weather. It also goes to show you that you can recycle most anything. Even ice cream--if you're brave enough to try! From Archie #217 (February 1972), here's "Freezer Plan" by Ol' Groove's favorite Archie team: Frank Doyle, Harry Lucey, and Chic Stone...

Funny Stuff: "See No Evil" by Doyle and DeCarlo

Question for ya, Groove-ophiles: what could be more fun than spending a day at the beach with Betty and Veronica? I couldn't think of anything, either! From Archie Giant Series Magazine #236 (July 1975), here's "See No Evil" by Frank Doyle and Dan DeCarlo!

Thanksgiving Feast 2016: "Archie Makes His Mark" by Doyle, Lucey, and Epp

Happy Thanksgiving, Groove-ophiles! Just a "light breakfast" this morning--but a tasty one! Prehistoric Archie and the Gang by Frank Doyle, Harry Lucey, and Marty Epp! "Archie Makes His Mark" is from Archie #188 (November 1968)...

Hey, did this story give any inspiration to the song "One Tin Soldier"? Hmm...?

Groove's Faves: "Music Soothes" by Doyle, Lucey, and Epp

Can you dig it, Groove-ophiles? Mere weeks before the debut of the first Archies single (Bang Shang A Lang, don'tcha know) and the first Archie TV show (The Archie Show), Archie's very own comic is making fun of The Archies! These days, the song and show would've been promoted out the wazoo, but way back in July 1968? Everyone wants Archie's band to pull the plug, shut up, and go away! Reverse psychology? Maybe Ol' Groove hasn't been giving Frank Doyle, Harry Lucey, and Marty Epp enough credit? Hmmmmm...from Archie #185, see if you agree that..."Music Soothes!"

And just 'cause Groove loves ya (and Archie)...
