Ol' Groove's Request Line: "Cathedral Prime!" by Warner, Sutton, and Jason

When Ol' Groove shared Logan's Run #6 last month, Professor Jenness quickly chimed in and pleaded, "PLEASE post the final LOGAN'S RUN comic!" Now how could any self-respecting Wizard of the Wild ignore such a fervent appeal? Here 'tis, Prof! "Cathedral Prime!" from Logan's Run #7 (April 1977) by John Warner, Tom Sutton, and Klaus Janson, complete with the Gil Kane/Al Milgrom cover. Who loves ya, baby?

And thus Marvel's continuation of Logan's Run ended. Notice no kind of "is this the end?" blurb on the cover? Plus there's a "next issue" box on the last page. The plug must've been pulled fairly quickly--and without warning--on our favorite 23rd Century Sandman's mag. Wotta shame!

Sci Fi Week! Random Reads: "Aftermath!" by Warner, Sutton, and Austin

Sci-Fi Week is back, Groove-ophiles! Hope ya dig it!

A couple'a years ago we spent the weekend reading Marvel's awesome adaptation of MGM's Logan's Run flick. (You can still read the whole thing here, here, and here, btw!) Did'ja know that Marvel was given the go-ahead to produce a comicbook sequel to the 1976 sci-fi shocker? It was a novel idea, to show both the good and bad sides of being humanity's "liberator". Sadly, the sequel lasted only two issues (Logan's Run #'s 6-7, March-April 1977), but it was nicely written by John (Bloodstone) Warner with art by Tom (Boy from Derby) Sutton, Terry (X-Men) Austin, and Klaus (Daredevil) Janson. Wanna take a look at the "epilogue" from ish #6? Okay, then, let's check out  the..."Aftermath!"
Dig that far-out Paul Gulacy cover!

Black and White Wednesday: "Science Fiction and Fantasy in the Marvel Universe"

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Here's a treat from FOOM Magazine #21 (Spring 1978) featuring interviews with the writers of Marvel's sci-fi mags of the day (Roy Thomas on Star Wars, Chris Claremont on Star-Lord, and Archie Goodwin on Close Encounters) as well as a look back at recently cancelled sci-fi mags like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Killraven, plus a few surprises sprinkled throughout. Good job, editor David Anthony Kraft! And don't ya just love the cover by Tony DeZuniga and the New York Tribe?
