Happy Groovy Thanksgivings of Yore!

Some of Ol' Groove's favorite comics came out in November, and I've shared a whole lot of 'em here on the blog. In a weird bout of nostalgic nostalgia, Ol' Groove would like to help you (in the U.S.A) celebrate Thanksgiving (happy Thursday to the rest of the world!) with some of my most favorite faves that I've shared here with you in our past Thanksgiving Feasts! So, instead'a cooking to enjoy these tasty morsels of comicbook wonder, all ya have to do is click! Enjoy, Groove-ophiles!

Strange Tales #178 (Jim Starlin's Warlock epic begins!), The Destructor #1 (Archie Goodwin, Steve Ditko, and Wally Wood give us a most unexpected super-hero), and Scorpion #1 (Howard Chaykin's pulp-hero supreme)! Click here to read 'em all!

Ol' Groove's all-time favorite ish of Creepy! Read the best of this issue's best here, here, and here!

Marvel's greatest one-shot mag featuring early solo tales starring The Punisher and (Howard Chaykin's "reboot" of Scorpion) Dominic Fortune and the twin debuts of The Huntress (better known as Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird) and Weirdworld!

A special (or should I say Super Special) "issue" of Savage Sword of Conan in full color!

And finally, one of the best b&w comic mags of all time! The debut of Tigerman, Lawrence of Arabia...The Sting of Death...and Escape from Nine by 1!

The Grooviest Covers of All Time: Bob Larkin Made Me Buy These!

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Artist Bob Larkin just had his 68th birthday this past Tuesday, so why don't we wish him a belated happy one by ooh-ing and ahh-ing over a few of his captivating covers from the good old Groovy Age? Larkin did tons of covers for paperbacks, merchandising, and other comic mag publishers, but it's his Marvel-ous covers that still turn Ol' Groove on! Here are some of my favorites (and yeah, the insides of these are pretty cool, too!)...

Thanksgiving Feast 2016: Favorite Comics from Groovy Thanksgivings

Happy Thanksgiving, Groove-ophiles! Hope you ate plenty, had a great nap, and spent time with loved ones. Now, back to own annual Thanksgiving Feast!

Comicsbooks have always beens such a huge part of my life, so naturally, some of my best memories involve them. The time off from school for Thanksgiving Break always meant more time for reading comics, and sharing them with cousins and uncles who shared my love of the medium. Here are the covers of a bunch of faves that Young Groove juuuust might've spilled a bit of gravy on...

See ya in six hours for Black (and White) Friday!

Black and White Wednesday: "Accounts Settled...Accounts Due!" by Goodwin, DeZuniga, and Rival

Can you dig it, Groove-ophiles: the second solo-appearance of The Punisher from one of the most important and rare Marvel one-shots of all time, Marvel Super-Action #1 (November 1975)! Young Groove knew that this was a whole-new ballgame when it came to how super-heroes do their thing--with Marvel borrowing from the popular culture of the day (the Executioner book series, movies like Dirty Harry and Shaft) and hearkening back to the pulp heroes of the 30s (The Shadow and The Spider), the "code against killing" was officially lifted with this tale. Comics would soon change forever...from Archie Goodwin, Tony DeZuniga, and Rico Rival, here's "Accounts Settled...Accounts Due!"

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
