About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

AHPC X - All My Submissions In Order

This is the photo I took before the Challenge started, showing everything that I planned to paint:

I didn't take a photo at the end of the "pile of shame" as there wasn't one - I had painted everything. I even had to dip into other projects to fill up the last few days and to fulfill some of the Challenge Island location tasks.

Here is a photo of everything that I painted this winter:

Now, onto the roundup of my posts. You could follow [this link] which will bring up all of my posts on the Challenge blog, including my admin ones, in reverse order. However, it is probably better to click each of the links below.

AHPC X Is Over - Twenty-Eighth Submission - A Flashy Ending

That's it, all done and dusted until December. What a ride it has been. Despite aiming as much as possible for quality over quantity I somehow managed to finish the Challenge in eighth place with 1877 points. Over the seven Challenges I have participated in, that is my second lowest score. I'm quite happy with that as my overall quality of painting was much higher than for previous years.

This year also saw me complete (for the moment) several projects:
Strontium Dog - all minis painted
Pulp/Salutesville - all prepped minis painted
Barbarian warband - all painted
WW2 British Airborne - final figures and support weapons painted

But that's enough of this self-congratulatory nonsense. My twenty-eighth submission got published last night; Curt kindly held it in the queue so that it would be the penultimate post: [link]

Tomorrow morning I will be varnishing the last few bits and then I will get everything I've painted out on the table for a group shot.

I'll also put up a post tomorrow or Monday with all of my submissions in order.

AHPC X Day 91 - Twenty-Seventh Submission - WW2 Scatter Terrain

It's the final day of this year's Challenge and I've been a very busy bee. Alongside finishing the painting of my final entry (which should go up in the very early hours tomorrow morning) I have cooked a big batch of chilli, watched eight YouTube videos and acted as minion* for 24 posts. As of 5 minutes ago, I had cleared the queue of all "ready" posts (apart from my own which will get published as the penultimate post of the Challenge) which means I can take a break - I'll let the other minions man the fort for a while.

* a quick explanation of what the minion does. We have to read through the draft posts; reformat them where necessary; enter the post details in the "Spreadsheet Of Doom (TM)";check the scoring; write a comment at the end of the post; check that they have added the appropriate labels to the post; check the title is in the correct format; publish the post; update the points roster table on the Challenge blog. That can take 5-10 minutes per post.

But enough of that, my twenty-seventh entry got posted this morning, some WW2 scatter terrain: [link]

As I have mentioned, there will be one more entry from me - I'll post the link tomorrow when it has been published.

AHPC Day 89 - Twenty-Sixth Submission - Small Buildings

My twenty-sixth entry has been posted this evening; some 10mm and 15mm scale buildings from Timecast: [link]

10mm European buildings

15mm Middle Eastern buildings

I haven't started painting anything else yet, so this isn't a "Wednesday Workbench" post. I do have a couple of things out on the table to paint though, but you'll probably need to wait until Friday or Saturday to see them.

Correction - I made a mistake! The European buildings are 6mm and the adobe buildings are 10mm!

AHPC X Day 87 - Twenty-Fifth Submission - Last of the Strontium Dog Figures

My twenty-fifth submission saw me finish* painting figures for my Strontium Dog game collection. I have now painted every figure in the range (the Stix twice). It got posted this afternoon: [link]

Oh, and there was a 15mm camel as well.

I still haven't decided what to do for the last few days. Today I got various non-hobby chores done instead.

* I do have some of the old Foundry ones unpainted.

AHPC X Day 86 - Sunday Workbench 15 March

Yes, that really is my workbench right now. I finished painting the Strontium Dog miniatures this morning, varnished them this afternoon and have submitted the post.

The problem is, they were the last of the figures I had planned to paint this year which leaves me in a bit of a quandary. As things stand, I have (even without including bonus points) exceed my points target. I have a few options:

1. Sit back and relax; don't paint anything else.
2. Dig through my drawers of stuff that's primed and find some small, quick projects to paint.
3. Dig through my drawers and select one of my larger projects to start painting.

I guess my best right now is to think on it overnight.

AHPC X Day 84 - Twenty-Fourth Submission - Pulp Ladies

Another day, another submission has been posted: [link]

The figures above are from Eureka Miniatures and were very nice to paint. They were also the last of my collection of pulp era figures which were ready for painting. Don't worry though - I have more in stock that still need to be made ready for painting. Oh and at some point later this year I should be receiving even more from a Kickstarter I backed.

This afternoon I started work on the last of my Strontium Dog miniatures:

I expect to finish painting them tomorrow or early on Sunday. They are the last of the miniatures I had lined up for this year's Challenge, so I'll have to find something else from the backlog to paint for the final five days.

AHPC X Day 82 - Twenty-Third Submission and Wednesday Workbench 11 March

Oh, poo! I just spotted that I'd saved this post to drafts rather than publishing it. Well, it's still Wednesday somewhere I guess.

My twenty-third submission got posted this afternoon. I'd finished painting them last night, leaving just the varnishing and tufting to do this morning. And here they are: [link]

On the workbench right now are some more pulp ladies:

I should be able to finish them tomorrow, leaving me free to start work on the last few Strontium Dog figures.

AHPC X Day 81 - Twenty-Second Submission - Mutant Army Generals

My twenty-second submission, Mutant Army Generals for Strontium Dog, was posted this afternoon: [link]

Just seven more models and I will have painted everything from this range - and they should be appearing before the end of next week.

AHPC X Day 80 - Twenty-First Submission - Men in Floppy Hats

I suspected they wouldn't get posted until today and I was right - my twenty-first entry got published today: [link]

Ten each of King's Musketeers and Cardinal's Guard using 15mm figures from Blue Moon. All the figures were from the "Cardinal's Guard" packs (5 from the Mounted and Dismounted; 15 from the Dismounted. They only do one pack, Mounted and Dismounted, for the Musketeers which would leave the King's men somewhat outnumbered). I do have more figures to paint at some point for this project.

I completely finished the Mutant Army Generals today, including submitting the post which I expect will appear tomorrow. This evening I began work on this set of figures from Copplestone Castings:

These will probably take me a couple of days to finish as there are lots of details to paint and highlight.

AHPC X Day 77 - Twentieth Submission - Barbarian Tiggers

In between minion duties today, I managed to varnish and flock the figures for my twentieth entry, which was posted this afternoon: [link]

And so, the tease is no more - the mystery of the twenty-second barbarian rider is answered. He's not riding a horse, he's riding a giant tiger!

The other six beasties will be fielded as a lesser/greater warbeast unit to accompany the barbarians; the tigger with rider will be fielded as a single-figure warbeast-hero unit.

I've also begun work on my next entry and have made good progress. You'll get to see them in tomorrow's Paint Table Saturday post.

AHPC X Day 75 - Eighteenth and Nineteenth Entries - More Pulp

Two entries got posted this evening.

My eighteenth submission were some additions to Doyle's Dockers, including the man himself: [link]

My nineteenth were some down and out civvies for my Salutesville pulp project: [link]

As it's a Wednesday I would normally be writing a "workbench" post, but as what I'm working on is hush-hush I can't. You'll only have to wait a day or two to see them though as it's only a handful of figures.

Monday, 2 March 2020

AHPC X Day 73 - Seventeenth Entry - Mounted Barbarians

I submitted my barbarian cavalry as my seventeenth entry yesterday and they have been published this evening (there are a lot of posts in the queue - I guess lots of participants have projects coming to a conclusion right now) : [link]

Right now I'm working on my next two submissions, some more pulp characters:

I should have the painting finished tomorrow, but will probably have to do the varnishing on Wednesday morning.

After these, my plan is to work on the final figures for my barbarian warband. There are only seven figures, so they should be done quite quickly and I can put you out of your misery.

AHPC X Day 71 - Paint Table Saturday 29 February

I have finally finished painting the barbarian riders late this afternoon. Above is a pic with the 21 horses - with a small leap* of imagination I'm sure you can imagine them on their horses. Part from one...

Below is a closer-up pic of the riders:

Tomorrow I will be varnishing them. I'm going to keep the horses and riders separate until I've flocked the bases (it will be much easier without the riders attached). If all goes well, I should have them completed and the post submitted by the end of play tomorrow.

I'll be taking a short break from this project to paint something else before I start work on the final "secret" unit.

* I had to get that in somehow - it's only once every four years that I have the chance!
