About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Finished: 28mm Waffen SS Panzerknacker Teams

As promised yesterday, here are the photos of the latest batch of Waffen SS - two Panzerknacker teams. In Chain of command each team is made up of four men with three charges, three smoke grenades and a MG42 with two crew (there's no note about what weapons the other two men have - I've done a rifle and SMG for them).

The chaps with MG42s, grenade bundles and mines are from The Assault Group, the other two are from Artizan.

At 2 support points, each team is worth considering taking as supports, even if the opposition doesn't have any armour. With my weapon allocation, two teams (=4 support points) will put out 18 shooting dice at over 12", 22 at 6-12" and 26 at 0-6". A regular infantry squad (=4 support points) would have 15, 17 and 19 dice; a regular panzergrenadier squad (=5 support points) would have 21, 23 and 25 dice. The downside is that each team would need a 1 on the command dice to activate or an order from a senior leader, whereas the squads can be activated on a 2 or 3.

Finished: 15mm T34s

Well, apart from decals. I'll probably do those at some point during the week. The new Revolution CR arrived yesterday (the Br will be another week or so), which meant that I was able to get the Klear and matte varnishing done today.

As T34/76:

As T34/85:

These have come out a bit darker than the one I painted a few weeks ago. That's down to a change of paints - I used Russian Green instead of Armour Green for these. I've also left them "cleaner" (less rust and scratching).

Now that I have a good airbrush again, I'll probably work on the Matilda tanks tomorrow, getting at least the green laid down.

I've been doing some prep work over the last couple of days and all the shinies you saw in Thursday's post are done. I've also assembled the M3 Stuart:

The heft of the resin kit is much more satisfying than the plastic of the Warlord version.

Oh, and the plastic 8th Army figures are no longer running/standing/kneeling/laying around like headless chickens:

And that's not all I've been up to. I've got a few other little things on the go, but you'll have to wait to see those!

Finished: 28mm WW2 Aussie Jungle Fighters #8

It was a bit of a push, but I did manage to get the two batches of Aussies based, varnished and tufted in time to post today. And here they are:

Tommy Guns

These are all Wargames Foundry "Chindit" figures.

Owen Guns

These are all Eureka figures.

Rifles

These are all Eureka figures.

Boys Anti-Tank Rifle

This team is from Warlord Games.

I've done a count up of all the figures painted so far and I've actually got enough to field two platoons plus supports. With the figures I still have left to paint, I'll be able to field a 20-man commando section plus supports, and an under-strength Papuan platoon. I'm tempted to buy a couple more Matildas so that I can field an armoured troop as well for "Big CoC" games.

Wednesday Workbench and News 03 October

Sorry for leaving it so long since my last post. Things have been a little bit hectic for me over the past couple of weeks, but more on that later.

I actually have something finished to show you. I started these a couple of months back, but kept faffing around and only finished them yesterday.

Not much, but these BBQs will be jump off point markers for my Aussies. I'm still debating whether to paint up some wire mesh to put on top (maybe with a couple of "shrimps").

I also got some priming done the other day:

Warlord Games M3 Stuart

Warlord Games Aussie Matilda II

The Matilda was a bit of a pig to assemble and needed a fair amount of gap filling with green stuff. I think the plan will be to get the hulls done this weekend with the airbrush and then do the detailing next week.

OK, so now the news (which explains why things were rather hectic for the last 2-3 weeks). I am no longer a wage slave! You may recall that my father died last year. A few months ago, his estate paid out and my share looks to be enough for me to take at least a few years away from the daily grind of employment, particularly if I move away from London to somewhere that housing is cheaper. In a few years time I will reassess and decide if I need to go back to work again.

My leaving do was actually before Colours, a couple of weeks before I finished work. I got some very nice gifts:

There were also some chocolates (consumed by my team within a week!) and £50 of gift vouchers for Dark Sphere (a FLGS in London). I was pleasantly surprised by the Zhukov memoirs. I wasn't surprised about the Strontium Dog starter set - they had asked if there was anything for gaming that they should look into buying and I suggested that.

In the meantime, I'll be resting up and enjoying myself for a while. Of course, it does mean that I should be able to churn out a huge amount of painted figures during AHPC9 this winter!
