About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

AHPC XIII - 7th and 8th Submissions

I decided to split my submissions over two posts this week.

Entry #7 - 15mm Gallic Cavalry

These are the ones that I didn't have time to do last week, so got carried over for submission this week.

Entry #8 - '80s Drow

For the "Fantasy" studio, I decided to paint up some early 1980s (pre-slotta) Citadel Drow. They'd been sitting unpainted in my collection for about 40 years, so it was about time they got some love.

I've got one more studio to do before plonking myself down in the Director's Chair and being given a fiendish task by the Show Lord; I suspect that task will be to crack on and paint the 28mm Type S scout Courier which was meant to be my main focus for this year's Challenge. As that job will take me several weeks, I will paint up a few odd figures each week, if only to have something to post.

AHPC XII 3rd Entry - 15mm Ancient Germans

I managed to finish the basing on the ancient Germans in plenty of time to submit them yesterday. They got posted last night: linky-link.

In terms of scoring, these have put me back on track for my target of 1300 points, making up for the lack of work done over the holiday period.

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to finish the Japanese in time to submit them yesterday - I was waiting for the basing to dry before matte varnishing them, but it didn't happen in time so I did the varnishing this morning.

Finished: 15mm Early Imperial Romans

A mere couple of weeks of painting has seen me finish this force of Early Imperial Romans. This will provide me with (almost) all the groups I will need to play "Infamy, Infamy!" and also act as the start of an army for Art de la Guerre.

The individual figures I ordered from Donnington arrived earlier this week. I will get them prepped and primed over the next couple of days; they will be my leader/character figures for "Infamy, Infamy!" and I will be painting them to a slightly higher standard than the basic groups I've already done.

Command stands for ADLG:

Legionary Infantry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Auxiliary Infantry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Auxiliary Archers (for Infamy and ADLG):

Didn't spot the grass on that bow until just now...

Roman/Auxiliary Cavalry (for Infamy and ADLG):

Didn't spot the bent spear until just now...

I need to add a few more bases for "Infamy!" at some point.

Engineers (for one "Infamy" scenario):

All the figures are 15mm from Lancashire Games apart from the engineers who are from Baueda (via Magister Militum). the shield designs were hand-painted - a bit rough looking up close, but fine en masse at normal wargaming distances.

Finished: 15mm Ancient Germans

I should say "Finished For Now" - I still need to order and paint a few leader figures for "Infamy, Infamy!" and will need to add some more bases of infantry to make a full army for Art de la Guerre.

Light Foot for AdlG:

Skirmishers for Infamy, Infamy!:

Warriors for Infamy, Infamy!/Heavy Foot for AdlG:

There are three bases with horn-blowers that will be elite oathsworn warriors for Infamy, Infamy:

Rear rank two-figure bases for Infamy, Infamy!:

(Not quite) Naked Fanatics:

Foot Cavalry Bases for Infamy, Infamy!:

Cavalry (for both!):

Light Cavalry for AdlG:

Command Stands for AdlG:

And the figures in their storage box:

I will need to order some more figures from Lancashire Games at some point to make up a few extra heavy foot and a load of medium foot bases for AdlG; I might also order some extra javelin/spear figures to make some "levy" bases for Infamy, Infamy!.

I haven't decided what to paint next. I do have a few 28mm figures ready to go for my Judge Dredd collection, and I should probably get the Romans glued onto painting sticks ready for priming.

Paint Table Sat.. Errr...Sunday 27 September

I didn't post during the week as there wasn't anything really worth showing. I could have posted yesterday, but as I knew I would have more to show today I decided to wait.

I finished painting the ancient German cavalry figures yesterday and this morning I varnished them and popped them off their painting sticks:

This afternoon I sorted out all of the figures (foot and mounted) and glued them onto bases:

I may have mentioned before that I will be using these for both "Infamy, Infamy!" and Art de la Guerre, which is why you will notice some odd basing.

For "Infamy, Infamy!" the Germans have an option of "foot cavalry" where a unit of foot warriors can move with a unit of cavalry before deploying to fight. To represent those I have done some bases with one mounted and four foot figures to replace the rear rank of a cavalry unit until the foot warriors deploy.

For the foot warriors I have done eight 40mm x 30mm bases with eight figures each. They can be used for Heavy Foot in AdlG; for "Infamy, Infamy!" barbarian warrior groups are meant to be ten figures, so I have done an equal number of 40mm x 20mm bases with two figures each to put behind them and added dice cells to record casualties and fervour/shock:

I've used the command figures (and some spare foot figures) to make up a set of four command stands for AdlG. I'll be buying some individual figures from Donnington to use as leaders for "Infamy, Infamy!" - they will be mounted on individual bases.

Over the next couple of days I will be finishing the basing on these.

Finished: More Concrete Bits for Judge Dredd (plus Shinies and Podcast #19)

After painting some Jersey Barriers and T-Walls (from Antenociti's Workshop) before, I decided to buy some more - you can't have enough of them in my opinion!

I painted these up yesterday afternoon then today I gloss-coated them, added decals and posters and re-glossed them and finished them off with a matt varnish coat.

T- Walls:

I should note that I added graffiti decals to all of the pieces this time, sometimes on both sides.

Jersey Barriers:

Damaged Jersey Barriers:

K-Rails:

I might get a few more of these...

Shinies!

This morning, the postie delivered another package full of lead:

It was the extra bits I'd ordered from Lancashire Games - some more German warriors, cavalry and leaders; for the Romans a few more cavalry, some mounted generals/officers, another pack of archers and some legionaries (I'd only ordered auxilia before).

I'm gradually working through prepping the leadpile for this project.
