About Me

A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

Kickstarter: Modular Landing Pads

The Kickstarter campaign that I have been doing test-prints for launched a few hours ago:

There's a link in the picture above or just click here: linky-link

Some of you may know Kathy Millatt from her YouTube channel or from her time as a judge on The Great Model Railway Challenge. She's also a SciFi geek and has recently started playing tabletop games (Star Wars Legion).

She's been working on the designs for these modular landing platforms over the past few months and, boy, are there a lot of options in the package.

I've spent the last two weeks (almost) test-printing the SciFi Ring from the Galactic Set:

The ring has two levels which can be used separately (the upper ring needs basing sections for that though), or together for a taller structure. There are 14* different lower sections and 12* different upper pieces. And that's just for one of the four landing pads in the Galactic Set and before any Stretch Goals are added.

In the photos above you can see what I have printed so far - 14 lower sections and 4 upper sections. You need 12 per level to make a basic ring - I'm printing extras to show off all the options, but that means making a sort of figure-of-eight shape.

There are three pledge levels:

Core Modular Set (allowing you to build landing pads in a range of sizes and shapes) - £32

Galactic Set (SciFi Ring, Desert Ring and a Sky City one either full or flat) - £32

All-In (both sets) - £50 (or £45 if you get in early)

Considering how much you get in each set, I'd say that it is incredibly good value. Of course, once you have the files you will need to print them...

* actually slightly more - for the lower ring there are two different tops for the towers and a variant of the buttress piece which requires supports for printing; for the upper ring there are two different tower tops.

Kickstarter Campaign - 28mm Scale Beowulf Free Trader

I've been looking forward to this Kickstarter campaign for months now and it launched a few hours ago.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2nddynasty/free-trader-beowulf-starship/description

It's for the 200 Ton Type A Free Trader "Beowulf" from the Traveller RPG, designed for 3D printing at 28mm scale (technically 1:59 scale/1 inch = 1.5m). Fully printed it will weigh 5.25kg and measure 83cm long, 45cm wide and 25cm high. For those who want something smaller, it can always be scaled down before printing.

Here's the pitch video:

For Traveller players who don't want to 3D print a ship, they have also done detailed deck plans for the Beowulf and their previous Type S Scout/Courier and Type J Seeker designs which are available on their own at the lowest pledge level, Those will be available as PDF files and also VTT files for use with the various online tabletop simulators that people use.

There are also a range of add-ons that can be purchased (or that are included with higher pledge levels), some of them new to this campaign and some from previous campaigns.

Promo Post: Mel Bose's "Terrain Essentials" Kickstarter

I don't think I've ever done a "promo" piece on this blog, but there's a first time for everything.

Some of you may have come across Mel Bose on his YouTube channel "The Terrain Tutor". For those of you who haven't, I do recommend checking it out.

*linky-link*

Well, he's been persuaded to write a book on making terrain and a Kickstarter campaign was launched on Friday (it finishes on Sunday 14 April). The initial goal to fund the basic 96 page book was funded in just under 7 hours and two stretch goals (all the stretch goals will be to add extra pages to the book) have been unlocked, with more to come.

Here's his video introducing the Kickstarter campaign:

I've backed the campaign (I believe I was backer #9!).There are a number of options for backing - PDF only, book only, PDF and book.

Dave Taylor is handling the publication side of the book - he had his own successful Kickstarter last year for his "Armies, Legions and Hordes" book so knows everything what needs to be done. He's also been involved in editing before, so should be able to remove any extraneous "watchacallits" and "crack ons" that might slip in from Mel.
