About Me

My photo
London, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
A mythical beast - a female wargamer! I got back into wargaming in the summer of 2011 after a very, very long break and haven't looked back since. I must admit that I seem to be more of a painter/collector than a gamer, but do hope to correct that at some point in the near future. My gaming interests span the ages, from the "Biblical" era all the way through to the far future. I enjoy games of all sizes, from a handful of figures up to major battles (see my megalomaniacally sized Choson Korean and Russian Seven Years War armies).

AHPC XIII - 4th and 5th Submissions

I didn't get quite as far as I'd hoped to this week, but still managed to get two entries submitted. Only three figures, but next week should see a much bigger points grab.

Entry # 4 - Ralph & Rosie

This pair of bold adventurers are from Artizan's Thrilling Tales range, and were submitted for the "High Adventure" studio, completing the four studios I needed to visit to move onto the Blue zone.

Full post here

Entry #5 - Rebecca Cameron

This is another Thrilling Tales figure which I submitted for the Westerns studio, my first in the Blue zone.

Full post here

The next studio in the Blue zone is "Swords & Sandals" - I should have the figures done for that this week - rather a lot of 15mm cavalry. If all goes well, I might also have an entry in for the studio after that - Fantasy.

AHPC XII 18th & 19th Entries - Barbarians and Pulp Adventures

My final two posts got published yesterday.

19th Entry - Operation Rescue Oscar Part 5

I've been taking things easy today. The only workbench stuff I have done is to clean my paintbrushes and airbrushes. Tomorrow my plan is to get everything out on the table to take some group photos.

AHPC XII 15th, 16th and 17th Entries - WW2 Japanese and Mega City One

I didn't do a Paint Table Saturday post yesterday for two reasons:

1. There were no WIPs to show; and

2. I was very busy setting up scenes, taking photos, resizing them and then writing posts for three submissions.

Those three submissions all got posted overnight (well, before I got up this morning - I had a long lie-in!).

16th Entry - Oscar's Dredd of Robots

17th Entry - Operation Rescue Oscar Part 4

I've got two more entries to take photos for this afternoon. There will be another post here for them tomorrow.

AHPC XII 11th & 12th Entries - I Scream for Ice Cream plus Cats & Dogs

I've had two entries published yesterday, both quite small in terms of points (35 and 21) but I've got bigger posts to come over the next two weeks.

Paint Table Saturday 05 March 2022

As you can see, I am set up ready to paint some figures. I'll be starting on them tomorrow; there's also a vehicle which I've started but isn't in the photo. If all goes well, I should have them all finished and varnished on Tuesday. Which will leave me clear to start work on painting the SciFi buildings.

I've finished the first two sets of character figures, taken photos and submitted the posts which should get published tomorrow.

When I ordered more black primer, I also decided to order the starter set of Army Painter's "Speed Paints".

They arrived on Thursday and I tested them on a white index card to see how the colours look:

Zealot Yellow, Fire Giant Orange, Blood Red, Hive Dweller Purple, Highlord Blue,
Orc Skin, Pallid Bone, Crusader Skin, Hardened Leather, Gravelord Grey

I do have some figures in mind to test them on, but that might not be until after the Challenge.

AHPC X Day 84 - Twenty-Fourth Submission - Pulp Ladies

Another day, another submission has been posted: [link]

The figures above are from Eureka Miniatures and were very nice to paint. They were also the last of my collection of pulp era figures which were ready for painting. Don't worry though - I have more in stock that still need to be made ready for painting. Oh and at some point later this year I should be receiving even more from a Kickstarter I backed.

This afternoon I started work on the last of my Strontium Dog miniatures:

I expect to finish painting them tomorrow or early on Sunday. They are the last of the miniatures I had lined up for this year's Challenge, so I'll have to find something else from the backlog to paint for the final five days.

AHPC X Day 82 - Twenty-Third Submission and Wednesday Workbench 11 March

Oh, poo! I just spotted that I'd saved this post to drafts rather than publishing it. Well, it's still Wednesday somewhere I guess.

My twenty-third submission got posted this afternoon. I'd finished painting them last night, leaving just the varnishing and tufting to do this morning. And here they are: [link]

On the workbench right now are some more pulp ladies:

I should be able to finish them tomorrow, leaving me free to start work on the last few Strontium Dog figures.

AHPC X Day 75 - Eighteenth and Nineteenth Entries - More Pulp

Two entries got posted this evening.

My eighteenth submission were some additions to Doyle's Dockers, including the man himself: [link]

My nineteenth were some down and out civvies for my Salutesville pulp project: [link]

As it's a Wednesday I would normally be writing a "workbench" post, but as what I'm working on is hush-hush I can't. You'll only have to wait a day or two to see them though as it's only a handful of figures.

AHPC X Day 73 - Seventeenth Entry - Mounted Barbarians

I submitted my barbarian cavalry as my seventeenth entry yesterday and they have been published this evening (there are a lot of posts in the queue - I guess lots of participants have projects coming to a conclusion right now) : [link]

Right now I'm working on my next two submissions, some more pulp characters:

I should have the painting finished tomorrow, but will probably have to do the varnishing on Wednesday morning.

After these, my plan is to work on the final figures for my barbarian warband. There are only seven figures, so they should be done quite quickly and I can put you out of your misery.

AHPC X Day 65 - Sixteenth Entry - Doyle's Dockers

It appears that my sixteenth entry got posted late last night: [link]

Just the four figures, but I needed a bit more palette cleansing between batches of barbarians.

AHPC X Day 30 - Seventh Submission and Sunday Workbench 19 January

My Seventh submission has just been posted: link

I had fun producing those, but it was quite a long process, mainly due to drying times at various stages.

Now, however, I can switch back to painting things which don't cause a lot of down-time. I've already started work on my ninth submission, which I'll be finishing before I begin my eighth one. Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but it's how I roll.

Anyway, here are the obligatory workbench pics:

I should get the painting finished tomorrow, then it's just a case of basing them.

AHPC X Day 26 - Wednesday Workben...Sixth Submission

Sorry, no, you're not getting a "Wednesday Workbench" post this week for two very good reasons.

First off, my sixth submission has been posted a bit earlier than I'd expected:

You can find the post here: link

Secondly, I'm working on my next Challenge Island entry and I'm keeping it under wraps until it's finished and up on the Challenge blog. You shouldn't have to wait for too long to see it though, if all goes to plan.

AHPC X Day 03 - Second Submission

My second submission is up now: link

I was meant to be heading down to Sussex today for Christmas, but I've been struck down with a D&V bug. Brilliant timing, thanks whoever passed it on to me. As a result, I will be staying in London on my lonesome, but it does mean that I will be able to do some painting. I got these chaps primed this morning, then added basing gunk:

They will be for my "Millsy's Millpond" entry.

And I have made a start on these chaps:

I hope to get these and two regiments of converged grenadiers finished before the 30th, so that they will be available for a big game at the club.

'Tis the Night Before Challenge

Curt Campbell did gush,
So wipe down that workbench
And clean out that brush
You can begin painting
In a few hours time
Not figures you've started
Unless they're just primed

By the time this drivel is posted there will be 10 hours left before the kick-off of AHPC X. All my prep is done and only one batch of figures (the Judge Dredd minis) hasn't been primed yet.

My workbench has been wiped down and I've got it ready for painting my first submissions:

Taking a bit of a risk, I am going to try out my new wet palette tomorrow I've also got a new set of brushes out (my last pair of series 7 brushes have taken a heavy hammering over the past few months).

Here's a photo of the figures I definitely intend to paint:

What? You want close ups of the boards? Oh, go on then!

Strontium Dog minis

15mm robots and 10mm lizardmen

28mm characters and 15mm SYW Russians

28mm WW2 British Airborne

28mm Pulp

28mm Barbarians

Barbarian skirmishes, command, shamen and beasts

Barbarian swordsmen and axemen

Barbarian cavalry riders

Barbarian cavalry mounts

Besides the Judge Dredd figures, there is a lot more that's prepped and primed in the wings if I finish these early. I might also be making up some terrain.

Before I go, I would just like to wish all my fellow participants in this year's Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge the best of luck in achieving their targets, winning their side duels but above all I hope that they will have good fun over the next three months.

AHPC9 - Glad It's All Over!

Well, what a ride that was! I submitted my 25th entry yesterday:

*linky-link*

And started on another, but realised that I wouldn't get it finished in time. So I decided to chip in and help Curt with processing all the last day entries. For my part, I went through 26 submissions; I think Curt sorted a similar number.

I've finished in 4th place with 3426 points, my highest score out of all six AHPCs I've taken part in.

And now it is time to rest up for a short while before I do a round-up post of all my submissions.

AHPC9 Day 82 - Tuesday Update 12 March

Today was the last of the Tuesday schedule for posting. From Sunday until the end of the Challenge it is "free fire" when we can post as soon as we have stuff finished.

I have two submissions posted today. The first was some more early WW2 Aussies, this time Perry plastics as Militia troops:

*linky-link*

I didn't think I'd have a second entry finished in time but the painting went really quickly and they were done - another set of pulp figures for my collection:

*linky-link*

These two entries have upped my tally to 3214 points towards my increased target of 3350. I'm still in 5th place, but just 10 points below AlexS - it looks as though we might be jostling for 4th place next week (the gap to 3rd place is just too big for me to catch up).

AHPC9 Day 75 - This Week's Submissions

I only had two submissions to the challenge this week (plus the bonus round entry), but they were enough to add 323 points to my tally.

My first entry was the rest of the 15mm WW2 Soviets:

*linky-link*

This comprised a tank rider platoon, 2 scout squads, some officers, a medic, some spare NCOs (for attachment to support weapon teams), a spare LMG team, eight AT rifle teams and four teams each of Maxim gun, 50mm mortar, 76mm mortar and 120mm mortar.

When the Challenge is over I'll need to magnetise all the bases for storage/transport.

The second entry was another group of pulp figures:

*linky-link*

This afternoon saw me start work on the Perry plastics for my early WW2 Aussies. I've got the basecoats done on the first twenty and will be doing an initial wash shortly;

AHPC9 Day 68 - Tuesday Update 26 February

Only 22 days left of the Challenge! I guess I'd better keep the pace up.

After last week's disappointment, I have had three entries submitted this week totaling 403 points.

My first entry was some early WW2 Aussies:

My second entry was some 15mm WW2 Soviets

I finished up the day with some 28mm pulp figures:

These have seen me jump to 4th place with 2586 points, 414 points away from my original target (639 points if I exclude my bonus points from theme rounds). Once the results of the final bonus round are in, I will be increasing the target to reflect my bonus points total.
