Purging Project: Basketball Team Lots ALL LOTS CLAIMED

UPDATE: 18Jan2024 4:50 PM
ALL TEAM LOTS have now been CLAIMED.

Thank you to all the TCDB members, and my blog readers who made claims for the lots. I am still waiting on a few addresses and shipping payments. A Big thank you to the TCDB member who grabbed the last 5 teams, the checklists and the remainder of the Classic lots.

In a long needed effort to purge excess stuff from my card collection and related paraphernalia. I have thought of purging things before, but times have gotten more desperate. An apartment inspection woke me up to my cluttered housekeeping of over 15 years. I decluttered lots of things and made a small dent but didn't purge any trading cards. I made the panic mistake of purging a ton of comic books (without going through what I had), magazines and even some computer floppy discs that a few weeks later I realized some of the files on some of the discs might have been important for various aspects of my life and maybe some original writings. But OH Well Stuff is Stuff.

I will soon start prepping some of my Trading Cards for purging. Way back when I used to belong to some team trader groups I had a fantasy of having one monster box filled with trade fodder for each of the four major US sports (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey) even though I only belonged to team trader groups for Baseball and Football. For the football group I did have a monster box filled with trade fodder for each team in the league. As I would make the monthly trades I would replenish the teams that I was out of or low on. As part of the organization I used those worthless "card savers" as divider tabs. I use a simple file folder label w/ the team nickname written on it in sharpie and put that on the top of the card saver and load that team's cards behind the card saver divider. I now have a Basketball monster box set up and ready for the cards to find a new home. I currently have most of the current teams available. I plan on Purging by team lots.

For interested parties I can send you a nice team lot of NBA cards. All I ask for in return is $6 for first 2 teams. Please add $1 for each additional team after that..  Sorry I'm only sending to USA addresses. For Basketball I have team lots of about 90% of the teams in the league. I even have some draft cards of college guys who were "free agents" and never made the NBA, a handful maybe went pro overseas. Unfortunately for me most of the cards are from the decade of the 1990s. Yes like a ton of other card collectors I have a problem with super overstock of "Junk Wax" cards. Year ranges for team lots are from 1989 to around 2007 with most teams having cards from 1990 to 1996 or 97. Not many 1992 or 93. Some brands and years will only have 1 card, some might have a dozen or more. There are duplicates and in some cases multiples some 3 or more copies. Sorry I don't have time to go back over the lots to cherry pick for specific players, brands or years. Some lots may have a super star and some may not. These lots are excellent for trade fodder if you are in a team trading group.

I have even been toying with the idea of signing up to sell on Sportlots (been buying from there for years), but I am a bit leery about selling there. Mostly due to the high fees they charge especially if you have low sales. Plus I would have to make sure I had close to a 1,000+ cards ready to roll there to start seeing some results. I would also open my sellers account under a different user name. I'm already "captkirk" as a buyer, hmm but not "captkirk42". If I mess up as a seller there I don't want to be banned from buying there. If I were to have a huge selling day of buyers buying more cards than can fit in a PWE or small bubble mailer I don't have many small boxes or larger mailers on hand right now.. That fear is also what keeps me from adding more listings and larger items onto Ebay.

Current status of my Basketball Monster box, the card counts are approximate and for some of the teams might be off by a few cards as I added some rookies and draft cards of guys where the card doesn't mention the team they were drafted to but the player eventually went pro and I had to do a Google search to see if they ever played pro ball.

Secret Santa 2017: Walked The Plank? NO He Homered!

HO HO HO. It's Cardsmas in January? February? Well not really but it is now that I am posting my Ill-Gotten Holiday Pirate Booty from last year's Card Exchange Apocalypse. As many of you bloggers out there know Matt from "Bob Walk The Plank" hosted a Blogger's Secret Santa Gift Exchange for the 2017 Holiday Season. Think a White Elephant Yankee Gift Exchange on PEDs or more accurately ON 2.5" x 3.5" pieces of Cardboard, and memorabilia sometimes smaller sometimes larger. Mostly sports related sometimes not.

I was a little hesitant about signing up because I am still delinquent on some cardboard trades in the trading card universe from several years ago now. A few I have made up some I have not. I have to remind myself of that occasionally in the hopes I'll speed up my recovery efforts.

I "blogged" about my Secret Santa Mail Day at my usual spots on TCC and TCZ. Those are mostly just listings of what I got with some detail, but rarely any pics. The true blogging with pics happens here. This post has extra Holiday Fat Pics.

On Saturday 23 Dec 2017 I  received my Blogger Secret Santa package to me on the same day I sent my Secret Santa package out to Greg. The small package came from Tim B. of "I love the Smell of Cardboard in the Morning" blog.

He hit a multi-run Homer I'd say it was a 3 runner. Total of 38 cards at least one from each of the 4US sports food groups some PC snacks and niche noschs.

BASEBALL: 27 cards the bulk of the package 1 or 2 dupes 3 at the very most.

2016 Panini Black Friday Baseball: 19 Stephen Strasburg Washington - Wow this is one of the best Non-licensed Panini Baseball cards I've seen in a while. Almost looks like a licensed card. In fact I thought it was one at first glance then I saw it was Panini and just said "Washington".
2016 Topps Baseball: Purple Parallel: 342 Jayson Werth Nationals
2016 Topps Baseball: New Era?: 1 Bryce Harper Nationals
2016 Topps Baseball: First Pitch:

2016 Topps Opening Day Baseball: Mascots:

So yeah this post barely makes it into the end of January to preserve my bare minimum one post a month quota.

CK42 Trade Post: Walking Dead And Hoops

 CK42 TRADE POST:
THE WALKING DEAD AND HOOPS
30 Nov 2017
Updated 06 Oct 2023

New Offerings:
Yeah that says what it means.

For this quick and dirty trading post I am tossing into the trade ring a smallish lot of The Walking Dead Non-Sport cards. I don't watch the show so they hold no interest for me. I had gotten them from of all things a football team trade. The other trader included them as the bookend cards at the ends of the team bags, or outside the team bags. At any rate they were the outside cards from the little bundles of cards in the package. They are produced by Topps in 2017.

2017 Topps The Walking Dead Season 6: CLAIMED
10 JSS
20 The Cheesmaker
24 A New Leader
25 Ambush
26 Separated
27 Good Guy Daryl
28 Howdy, Gentlemen
31 Chasing Enid
33 Crazy Idea
34 Being Stalked
38 Born This Way

Also I have a smattering of 2015-16 Panini Complete Basketball. 4 cards and a wrapper.

2015-16 Panini Complete Basketball: TRADED or RAC'd*
42 Shabazz Napier Magic
47 Jonas Valanciunas Raptors
175 Marcus Morris Pistons
285 Terran Petteway Hawks

CK42 Trading Posts:
A Lot of Oilers: A 50-some card lot of Houston Oilers cards.
Previously Trading Thursday: A couple of pack lots. One 6 packs one 9 packs.

Trading Thursday Posts:
A Set And Singles: 1993-94 Classic Draft Basketball
The Return?: 2015-16 Donruss Basketball from pack pulls
This One Is On Eleven: Basketball, Football and Non-Sport tall boy sized
A Fifth Of February: Mixed bag of Baseball, Basketball and Football
Experiment Number One: 3 cards total 2 hockey relics, 1 baseball auto
CFL Trading: 2015 CFL Football cards from a single box break

The cards listed in this series of posts are for trade or sale. If I don't mention a price feel free to give a reasonable offer. In some cases I might just feel like giving the cards away to a good home that will appreciate them. Not that I don't appreciate them, but the cards I list no longer fit into the scope of my collection. I don't "trash" cards anymore. It makes me cringe when I hear people talking about throwing trading cards into the garbage. If I can't find a home for cards I no longer want cluttering up my card hoard, I will have to toss them into the recycle bin.

Trading Thursday: A Set And Singles

 TRADING THURSDAY:
26 Jan 2017
A Set And Singles
Updated: 02 Jul 2017

This will be the last "Trading Thursday" post from now on I'll post on whatever day I choose and call it CK42 Trade Post" if I give a post a special title. The new title doesn't have the silly alliteration I like to use for series post titles but what the heck.  I will set up a static page that links to the individual posts. My Blog My Rules!

I had been toying with the idea of making more frequent Trade posts and not limiting myself to just posting on Thursdays. This way I get more of my trading fodder known to the handful of readers I get here.  Actually I've been witnessing freakishly large page visit counts recently for both my card blogs, my regular non-card blog is still only getting a few visitors, some days making a record number of visitors, but mostly the usually expected very little traffic. These card blogs though. Maybe I'm finally doing something right, or got put on some traffic increasing Internet train.

This Week's Offerings:
Yeah that says what it means.

Sometime a while back I got a bulk ton of Basketball Cards. They were mostly the typical last few years and the Overproduced 1990s years. I think it was a purchase from a forum. The large box that arrived had several smaller boxes among the goodies were 1993 Classic Draft Picks Basketball. Enough cards to make 2 complete sets, with a lot of duplicates. I am not huge on Draft cards mostly due to the guys who never get drafted and will remain unknown throughout time. There are only a hand full of cards from the set I wanted anyway. I have two complete 110 card sets available plus duplicates of many of the cards, not all obviously since I could only make 2 full sets.

Washington Wednesday: The Magical Wizard of Lodz

The Magical Wizard of Lodz

This episode of Washington Wednesday I am featuring a card I hinted at in my Trading Thursday post that had the 2015-16 Panini Donruss Basketball cards I pulled from two packs I had gotten from my local Dollar Tree store. If I recall correctly the first pack wasn't too thrilling for me. The second pack though started off with a Bang er Zap?

I pulled a Homie Wizard card. The Starting Center for the Wiz Marcin Gortat. Gortat was born or rather grew up in Lodz (Łódź), Poland. He began his professional career in Europe and was drafted by the Phoenix Suns round 2 in 2005, but continued to play in Germany til 2007. His rights had been traded to the Orlando Magic in 2007 and he made his NBA debut with the Magic in 2008. He was traded to the Suns in 2010 and from there traded to DC in 2013.

2015-16 Panini Donruss Basketball: 69 Marcin Gortat Wizards

Here are three other Gortat cards I have for my PC. I pulled them last year (2015)  in my blog group box break. Probably the last time I'll do one of those too much work and responsibility. It wasn't until I pulled these cards out to scan them that I noticed that I had a nice run of recent years without skipping a season.

2012-13 Panini Prestige Basketball - 59 Marcin Gortat Suns

2013-14 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball - 76 Marcin Gortat Suns

2014-15 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball - 152 Marin Gortat Wizards

Back in October on my Mascot Monday post I mentioned I needed to find the Washington Redskins card from the 1992 Pro Set Football Spirit of the Game sub-set I featured in the post. I have since acquired that card. It was going to be the next Washington Wednesday post, that is this post, before I had pulled the Gortat card at the beginning of this post. I haven't scanned it yet, but anyway I guess there is no real surprise what the next WW post will be about.

Trading Thursday: The Return?

 TRADING THURSDAY:
15 Dec 2016
The Return?

I'm going to try this again another blogging adventure that is just for my own personal fun and enjoyment I guess. The original intention of this series of posts was to get some of my trade fodder gotten rid of. Now I think it is sort of acting as a way to generate a trade list without really having a trade list.

This Week's Offerings:
Yeah that says what it means.

A few weeks back, I got some packs of cards from the Dollar Tree around the corner from me. Among the items I got were a couple of 2015-16 Panini Donruss Basketball for $1 each. I got two packs of 5 cards for a total of 10 cards. I pulled a Wizard  (I'll mention it in my next Washington Wednesday post possibly) so I got one PC card from the batch the other 9 cards I will trade or give away.

2015-16 Panini Donruss Basketball:
43 The Rookies: Nikola Jokic Nuggets - Traded
60 Luis Scola Raptors
64 Nikola Mirotic Bulls
75 Eric Gordon Pelicans
180 Blake Griffin Clippers
107 Dwyane Wade Heat
117 Gerald Green Heat

Trading Thursday: This One Is On Eleven

 TRADING THURSDAY:
18 Feb 2016

I originally intended to post this on last Thursday the 11th. Like usual I got lazy and there is no big demand on this type of post so it doesn't matter when I post it if ever. OK so this Trading Thursday Post is actually the 5th one if my recollection and count is correct. Even though the first one wasn't technically a TT in name yet. OK so most of my stuff has been junk years stuff or from the last few years and unfortunately seem to be very boring to all. *loud heavy sigh*

Trading Thursday: A Fifth Of February

 TRADING THURSDAY:
04 Feb 2016
UPDATED: 26 Sep 2018

Oops I goofed on the title for this week. I was thinking Thursday was the fifth for some reason. It is only the fourth.

OK so my followers count is now back up to 100. Yay and all that. Regarding trading I do admit I still owe a few people some packages from either an outstanding trade agreement from way back or contest winnings lot or what-have-you. It nags at me from time to time and the nagging is getting more intense. For the most part I know who I owe but there are a few I need to double check what it is I need to send. If you think I owe you some cards contact me and remind me what I am supposed to be sending your way.

This Week's Offerings:
Yeah that says what it means.

I am just going to list a whole bunch of cards right now. I won't post individual scans as my original concept of this series of posts was to be. Over time it would be too much of a chore and I would be limited to how many cards I could mention in a post. I can scan on request if needed.

Blog Group Box Break: Da Randomizing

This post is the final new post about my Blog Group Box Break Basketball Edition All the boxes have been opened and the videos and recaps posted. Now all that is left is to do the randomizing of the unclaimed team's Rookies, parallels, inserts and Hits. Plus randomizing the multi-team cards owned by two members. That is covered in this post. Then everything gets packaged and shipped out soon (Hopefully this next weekend).

First the unclaimed parallels, rookies and inserts will be randomly assigned to members by team. Then the multi-team cards will be randomized between the two members who have the teams shown. Any of the multi-team cards that were two "unclaimed" teams will now have claims, if any of those are now just one person that member will automatically get the card no randomizing. Then the three remaining hits will be individually randomized.

So this is how things break down. Including myself we had only 5 group members but we had 17 claimed teams that breaks down to almost 3.5 teams per member (technically it is 3.4). There are 13 unclaimed teams. The list of teams will be matched up to a randomized list of break members. The number of teams claimed by a member will be his number of chances at that particular team or hit up for grabs. I will only be in the randomization for the unclaimed team assignments, not the final hits.

The randomizing was recorded on video and posted on YouTube.

Good Luck to all.

RANDOMIZED RESULTS BELOW:

Here is the list of Unclaimed teams: For the Rookies, Parallels (Gold, Red Backs etc...) and Inserts.
76ers
Bobcats/Hornets
Bucks
Grizzlies
Hawks
Jazz
