March Mystery Post

This post will be a mystery at first since I'm not sure what I'm going to post about. This month of March was lets just say a Family Thing Month. I prefer not to discuss it on my blogs. I try to keep mu family stuff away from here since this blog is primarily for Trading Cards. Even my regular blog Kirk's Knook I try to keep away from discussing some of my personal and family stuff.

While looking through my card hoard searching for something to blog about last night (30 Mar 2022) I came across some stuff I forgot I had. Among the forgotten goodies was this Wax Box Panel of 4 cards from 1991 Topps Baseball.

Wax Box Panel number 3 of 4 if they were numbered that way. The individual cards are lettered as the numbers. This panel has cards numbered lettered I, J, K, L Yes the top left corner is crunched. I think it has always been that way. I think I got this from some sort of trade, or perhaps a large card lot or oddball card lot purchase. It could also have come from my friend's Son's collection I had acquired a few years back.

1991 Topps Baseball Wax Box Card Panel:
I Willie McGee St. Louis Cardinals
J Dale Murphy Philadelphia Phillies
K Eddie Murray Los Angeles Dodgers
L Dave Parker Milwaukee Brewers

I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep this or not, but it does have a Fave Baltimore Oriole (in a different uniform). In fact 3 of the 4 players featured on this panel are in the uniforms of teams I am not used to seeing them in. Dale Murphy I am used to seeing as an Atlanta Brave, Eddie Murray the aforementioned Oriole, and Dave Parker a Pittsburgh Pirate. The completest in me sort of wants to find the other 3 panels, but oddly I don't normally collect box panels anymore.

Losing Interest A Little Bit

Lately I have been losing interest in collecting a little. As the end of February was approaching I was even losing a little interest in blogging a bit. Of course some of this was my renewed efforts to get back into selling on Ebay. This month I have concentrated on my Ebay. As a result of making an effort to list new items and actually get them up on Ebay I went from having 6 stale listings and a last sale about 3 or 4 months ago for a 3 inch button that sold for $1.50 with Free Shipping to 30 listings. Over the last few weeks I have sold 5 items from 4 listings. I sold 2 books, and 16 packs of Football Cards (11 packs of 2016 Leaf Draft Football and 5 packs of 2018 Leaf Draft Football) I didn't know those things were so popular. Personally I don't like the Draft cards since they are undrafted players in college uniforms. Eventually some of those guys go on to have professional careers but many don't.

To reflect my Ebay sales I have tried to update my trading posts on this blog. I think they are current now. Anyway it is almost midnight on 29 February and I need to get this posted to make the deadline. For the full details (or at least what I could recall) check out my post over at my regular Blog "Kirk's Knook": Back To The Swing of Ebay Selling

Washington Wednesday: A Couple of Unseld Autos

Washington Wednesday: A Couple of Unseld Autos

It seems like there is always a long time between my Washington Wednesday posts. I should fix that. Hmm when was that Last one? You can click that link to find out. Moving On!

In this episode I will actually mention and show the cards that I briefly blogged about on my Kirk's Knook blog to make my self appointed minimum monthly posting quota way back in April of last year 2017. What I mentioned cards over there? And in APRIL? LAST YEAR? Egads Man PROCRASTINATE MUCH?

On Friday 21 April 2017 as part of my mail day one of the two packages contained an Ebay BIN single card $4.90 + $3.25 Shipping. Bidding had started at only $1.99 but got dangerously close to my max bid of $5.00. Was it a shill? I don't think so, but sometimes when I win auctions very close to or at my max bid I do wonder.

So here it that beaut:

Then that following Wednesday 26 April 2017 on a single package mail day coming from Ebay. A BIN auction for a single card $1.99 + $4.99 shipping. Short story with this one that I first posted on my regular blog (Kirk's Knook Blog as linked at the beginning of this post). It was mainly a rant about ordering from Ebay without checking out the seller and where they were located. Which was why I posted it on that blog. I knee-jerk bought the card without seeing where it was coming from. It was from a dealer in China. Sometimes that means you will get some kind of counterfeit product. Original tracking information said it would arrive sometime between early May to early June. Fortunately it arrived well before the estimated date.

It was this beaut: Looks like a Dave Bing Cameo. I played some with the post-scanning photo editing to help bring out some of the features. I am far from a pro at it.

The seller included 3 bonus cards: Fortunately all basketball. I like surprise bonus cards when it makes sense like these from the same sport, but I don’t like it when you order non-sports and they send sports or vice verse, or they send different sports than what you ordered. I like all (well most) sports but some people are just one sport collectors, or Non-Sport only.

2016-17 Panini Donruss Basketball: At first I thought these were special “gold” versions turns out the regular base has the gold/bronze coloring.

142 Marcin Gortat Wizards - Hey they sent the “same” team.
Yes Gortat was the subject of  the previous WW episode.

197 Tyrone Wallace Jazz

2016-17 Panini Select Basketball: Yes I did have to play with the post-scanning settings for this "chrome" card. I didn't realize until after the initial scan that the right side edge and some of the left side had some kind of smudged schmutz on it as shiny chrome cards tend to have if not wiped as soon as gotten and put into a penny sleeve. I wiped the card of the smudge but haven't sleeved it yet.

The Wallace and the Pachulia cards are of course up for trade.

Kirk's Knook: Super Bowl 46

CONGRATULATIONS New York Giants
I posted my reactions/comments of this year's Super Bowl on my regular blog, I'm too lazy to make any additional changes and I wanted to see how blogger's "link to this post" actually worked between your own blogs Kirk's Knook: Super Bowl 46

Mayor Dave Bing 1975-76 Topps Basketball

1975-76 Topps Basketball
Dave Bing - Detroit Pistons

Here is a basketball card I've had since my childhood. As I said in my post about my Phil Chenier RC yesterday (well actually just a few minutes ago I'm scheduling these posts at a later time) I don't follow basketball anymore, but when I did the man on this card was one of my fave players. In 1975 he played for my fave homie team the Washington Bullets. I saw him play a few games during his career with the Bullets from 1975-'77. Not many but a few in fact at one game a friend and I attended we got to the "Cap Center" a little early and got to watch the warm-ups/shooting practice (or whatever basketball calls "batting practice") and got a close up look at some of the players including Dave. The Capital Centre was located in Landover, MD later renamed US Air Arena but I will always know it as the Cap Center. Sadly it no longer exists.

OH by the way Mr. Bing is now the Mayor of Detroit. When he was elected or started his campaign I blogged about it at my regular blog in the post titled "The Politics of Sports".

*A Homie team is the team located in your home city/town or area that you root for so calling them my "fave homie" team is a bit redundant. It gets the point across anyway.
