2022 Topps Archives 1972 Fan Favorites Certified Autogragh

A fairly recent buy from Ebay was a 2022 Topps Archives Fan Favorites Autograph card of San Francisco Giants hitting coach Alyssa Nakken. The autograph is on card in blue sharpie, and at some angles it looks like it is a blue ballpoint. 1972 Topps Baseball Design.

In May of last year I blogged about a Topps Now card of Alyssa (here) which I guess is her RC?

MLB Managing Ladies Baseball

Women are making big strides in all walks of life even in pro sports that used to be strictly "Men's Clubs". In April just 4 days apart two women made big debuts on the Pro Baseball Diamond, one in the Minors and one in the big Major League Stage. Topps Now recorded these events and I got the cards from Topps Now on Ebay for about 7 bucks each plus a little in shipping and/or tax. Most Topps Now cards I've gotten from between $5.99 to about $13.99 with most being at $7-$8, sometimes free shipping sometimes not. These two I happened to get from the ToppsNow store on Ebay, (EDIT: I was wrong the minor league card I got from a different seller, no toppsnow store)  sometimes I get them from other dealers. It depends mostly on the price. Usually there is a bit of a wait on the shipping especially through the toppsnow ebay store.

Lets start with the Minor league card. Rachel Balkovec made her managerial debut for the Tampa Tarpons (careful reading that one, it caught me the first time I saw it) a MILB affiliate of the New York Yankees on Friday 08 April 2022.

Card two is Up to the big league MLB just 4 days later. Alyssa Nakken took the field as First Base Coach for the San Francisco Giants Tuesday 12 April 2022.

I don't intend to dis Miss Nakken here but in that photo she looks a bit like Ellen DeGeneres or Jane Lynch.

Strive For '65: Set The Wayback Machine To Last May/June

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:

Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 304/598 (306/600) 50.8% (51%)

For those of you wondering YES I am STILL BUILDING THIS DANG SET. I don't have the luxury of being a huge fandom blog where you mention you are building a vintage set and within a few months or maybe even weeks BAM It's Complete.

Here is the link to my last update from May of 2021. For this posting I got 5 cards from Sportlots, one was apparently an unaware duplicate. Upon seeing the original scan it seems to be a downgrade. Oops silly me. I am also breaking my tradition slightly by not posting on a Saturday. Anyway lets get on with this post:

Thursday 27 May 2021:
295 Dick Radatz Red Sox

Friday 28 May 2021:
131 Johnny Keane Yankees

Tuesday 01 Jun 2021:
103 Harvey Kuenn Giants

119 John Kennedy Dodgers

147 Dennis Bennett Red Sox

Here is the card that I duplicated: The first copy is on the left and the dupe on the right.

Card 295 Dick Radatz Red Sox

Both copies have some centering issues. Hmm the dupe has some schmutz on Dick's shoulder while the original has a white spot in the sky.

Now for the backs even though the dupe is better centered it has some pen markings on it and is a bit faded or dirtied. Must have been in more shoeboxes than the original.

Say Hey Hey Willie

I got a great deal on an excellent card in a Sportlots auction. Not sure if it is a true White Whale or not. It is a vintage card of a Super Star of the game. I am a little surprised I didn't have to fight tooth and nail for it. It is that classic 1959 Topps Baseball design, based on the 1958 Topps Football. When I first started looking back to vintage cards before my time I discovered the Baseball version first I think. Well whichever I found first I like the overall design. I don't remember how old I was when I first saw the design but I think I was kind of young and it may have taken me a year or two to realize that they are in fact the same design. OK so the football is oval and the baseball is a circle so what?

Of course it isn't in the greatest of shapes but it is good 'nuff for my collection. So the financial damages were $15.50 plus $3.95 shipping. Not bad. The low starting bid of $15 was what drew me to the auction. I think I put $25 as my max bid, maybe just $20 due to lower condition. For some cards I don't mind well rounded super soft corners.

Strive For '65 Saturday: A Little Help From Sportlots Stores

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
30 Mar 2019
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 294/598 (296/600) 49.2%

Here is the link to my last update from November of last year. Once again I am slipping slipping with this ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK! Procrastination is making this post closer to being a Sunday post than a Saturday, not quite though still a few hours before that happens.

I made a big jump with some purchases from Sportlots stores. But Ouch not yet at 50% but oh so much closer. I also got some 1965 OPC cards (2 Senators and 1 Orioles Rookies pair) on 25 Mar. I really need to get all the Senators from that set, as well as the Orioles (for both sets), the team cards, some of my PC players, and the World Series cards. I might as well build the OPC set also. Right now I only have 4 of those though.

Thursday 21 Mar 2019:
Got two packages (a large PWE and a small bubble mailer) that had a total of 16 cards 13 of which are 1965 Topps (plus the three 1965 OPCs and a 1970 OPC card). Total shipping for the two packages was $5.50 card prices ranged from 49¢ to $1.99 with most being between 75¢ and 99¢.

Here are the cards:

192 Jim Coker Reds

213 Jim Davenport Giants

223 Dan Osinski Braves

227 Bobby Klaus Mets

229 Lou Clinton Angels

230 Ray Sadecki Cardinals

235 Chuck Hinton Indians

237 Bernie Allen Twins

251 Billy Herman Red Sox Mgr

283 Fred Whitfield Indians

287 Gary Kolb Braves

288 Jack Hamilton Tigers

392 Bob Friend Pirates

Interesting the back of Bob Friend's card does not have a cartoon/comic making the back of his card look almost like a manager's card.

Bonus 1965 OPC Cards:
I already have the Topps versions of these, even the 1965 Orioles Rookies card. These '65 OPC cards count into my Senators PC, Orioles PC and Kirk/Curt niche PC
