Collectible Card Club

 Where oh where to begin?

Many card collectors maybe aware of Collectible Card Club a subscription box service. As a member each month they will send you a box of unopened packs of cards. They have the 4 major US sports: Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Hockey plus Soccer and Gaming. They offer a selection of 3 membership tiers: Silver 5 packs $24.95, Gold 10 packs $42.95, Platinum 15 packs $60.95. You can choose which individual sport flavor you want or a 3 sport Baseball, Football & Basketball box. Plus you choose from Vintage (1999 on back to probably early 1980s. I think they have stated 1983 is as far back as they have gone), or Modern (2000 and up), or a mix of the two.

Now here is where things get interesting. Almost 3 years ago, back in Sept 2019 I received a box from The CCC. I did not order the box it was sent to me as a sort of promo for bloggers I think. I don't recall if I received an email or responded to some promo they were having but anyway I currently have a box sitting unopened still in it's yellow/orange mailing package. I had planed on doing a spectacular blog post about opening it that was to include a video busting the box and the subsequent packs inside, including scans of everything during the process. I nixed that idea due to all the time it would take to work on it.

Flashforward to recent months as I have seen more and more UTube videos and blog posts of others busting these boxes and repack products like Repacked Wax and well I got the bug for it. So I set up a Platinum Vintage Baseball sub and a Gold Vintage Football sub. This way it is less likely I will get brands that I don't particularly like such as Chrome, & Draft editions. There may be a few as those trends started in the 1990s. Anyway for brands I don't like I will put those packs aside as traders or toss them up on Ebay maybe.

My first two subscription boxes arrived Friday 10 June. So now I am a Collectible Card Club Card Carrying Member even though I probably shouldn't spend so much on it..

I was going to include one of my first CCC Box Breaks for this post but I haven't started opening them yet. I have 3 to do sometime soon.

Strive For '65 Saturday: A Little Help From Sportlots Stores

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
30 Mar 2019
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 294/598 (296/600) 49.2%

Here is the link to my last update from November of last year. Once again I am slipping slipping with this ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK! Procrastination is making this post closer to being a Sunday post than a Saturday, not quite though still a few hours before that happens.

I made a big jump with some purchases from Sportlots stores. But Ouch not yet at 50% but oh so much closer. I also got some 1965 OPC cards (2 Senators and 1 Orioles Rookies pair) on 25 Mar. I really need to get all the Senators from that set, as well as the Orioles (for both sets), the team cards, some of my PC players, and the World Series cards. I might as well build the OPC set also. Right now I only have 4 of those though.

Thursday 21 Mar 2019:
Got two packages (a large PWE and a small bubble mailer) that had a total of 16 cards 13 of which are 1965 Topps (plus the three 1965 OPCs and a 1970 OPC card). Total shipping for the two packages was $5.50 card prices ranged from 49¢ to $1.99 with most being between 75¢ and 99¢.

Here are the cards:

192 Jim Coker Reds

213 Jim Davenport Giants

223 Dan Osinski Braves

227 Bobby Klaus Mets

229 Lou Clinton Angels

230 Ray Sadecki Cardinals

235 Chuck Hinton Indians

237 Bernie Allen Twins

251 Billy Herman Red Sox Mgr

283 Fred Whitfield Indians

287 Gary Kolb Braves

288 Jack Hamilton Tigers

392 Bob Friend Pirates

Interesting the back of Bob Friend's card does not have a cartoon/comic making the back of his card look almost like a manager's card.

Bonus 1965 OPC Cards:
I already have the Topps versions of these, even the 1965 Orioles Rookies card. These '65 OPC cards count into my Senators PC, Orioles PC and Kirk/Curt niche PC

Strive For '65 Saturday: 7 The Card Way

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
20 Oct 2018
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 278/598 (280/600) 46.8%

Here is the link to my last update from May. I thought I was getting better with updating this project, but seem to be running about the same every 5 or 6 months or so a handful of new cards. At this rate I won't even be 3/4 finished by the 75th Anniversary. The next milestone though is the half way mark. Any bets on if I'll make that in the next 2 months? I really wanted to get this posted last week (Sat 13 Oct), but barely got the cards scanned then. Now I will barely get it out on this Saturday. On with the cards.

Thursday 04 Oct 2018:

I got 5 cards from the 1965 set from a Sportlots auction for $2.25 plus shipping $1.99 I knew from the start that a couple were duplicates, but I need the rest and the needs outnumbered the haves.

81 Don Buford White Sox
(Duplicate)

112 Derrell Griffith RC Dodgers
(Duplicate)

199 Bob Heffner Red Sox

269 Frank Bolling Braves

358 Albie Pearson Angels

Yes the bottom edge on the back of the Albie Pearson card is off-center there is just a little blue on the bottom. Eek I actually did crop a little too much as well, but not a whole lot.

Friday 05 Oct 2018:

One Sportlots Auction 2 card lot one team $1.25 plus 99¢ shipping. Both cards were needed.

418 Johnny Edwards Reds

530 Jim Maloney Reds

Strive For '65 Saturday: Is One Twin Still A Twin?

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
23 Sep 2017
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 265/598 (267/600) 44.6%

Here is the link to my last update.

Sigh I wanted to originally post this last week a week after I had gotten the first card. I got myself hung up on procrastinating on the scanning of that card. Now I have since gotten two more cards to add to the mix.

So I wonder? Is a Single Twin still a Twin? OK just playing of course they are. This particular Twin card is a player who begin his major league career with The Washington Senators (1.0) and continued on with The Minnesota Twins. Had a 13 season career with the same franchise.

Saturday 02 Sep 2017:
From a Sportlots auction for 25¢ + 69¢ shipping. The shipping is for just this card, I won two other 25¢ auctions from the same seller so I got 3 cards in one PWE the total shipping was $3.37. One of those cards I'll mention on my Curly W Cards blog sometime. The third I should mention here under my Name Niche PC feature.

180 Bob Allison Twins

Tuesday 19 Sep 2017:
I had recently ordered a bunch of cards off of Sportlots oddly though these two cards came from some auctions I bid on just after I had placed that order. They are from two auctions from a seller I had bid on 8 auctions. 2 of those auctions were for a lot of 8 cards so all total I got twenty-two 1960s vintage Baseball and Football cards from that seller. The shipping was highway robbery at $8.52 and all the auctions I got the cards for 25¢ each except these two of course which I got for 75¢ each . They were the only 2 auctions from the batch that had another bidder on it and it was the same bidder for both auctions who upped the price to 50¢, and my max bid got me to the 75¢ winning bid. If I hadn't bought from this seller before I would have suspected shilling, but I'm guessing it was a rookie buyer just bidding the minimum bid price without selecting a "max" bid number. Anyway here are those two cards:

89 Mike Hershberger White Sox

98 Bob Miller Dodgers
