Trade Pile 001: Attempt at a New Feature

Trade Pile 001
26 Jun 2022

So here is a feature that I have been thinking of doing for a bit, but haven't committed to since it requires somewhat frequent updating. It is a way to lighten the load of my card hoard. It is based on a concept that Chris at Nachos Grande Blog calls his "Trade Stack". He has been doing it for years (sent out 105 stacks) and a few other bloggers have similar deals.

The concept is simple I will post a card or cards I have up for trade and the first person to claim the "pile" in this post's comments will receive them all. The golden rule with this is that you must offer at least one card off of my wantlists. See My Master Want List on this blog or My Wantlist at TCDB*. If you don't have a card off of my lists I will also accept Pre 1986 Vintage Baseball or Football and Non-Sport from 1960s to 1970s. Please let me know what you intend to send.

After awhile I will add another card or two to the "Pile" (or "Stack") of unclaimed cards until the pile gets claimed.

To test the waters here is the first card for the Pile:

2016 Bowman Draft - Chrome Baseball:
BDC-29 Justin Dunn Mets

*TCDB link goes to my TCDB profile, to see the wantlist go to Collection, then Wantlist.

This is slightly different than my regular CK42 Trade Post posts. some of those cards are still available and have been sitting for sometime.

Checking Off Some Sportlots First 2022 Sportlots Order

I got some cards from a couple of Sportlots Auctions from two sellers one was in Canada but the cards came fairly quickly as if they were the US. The first Sportlots order for this year 2022. A couple of them were vintage checklists. One unmarked and one partly marked on the back. Plus a couple of 1972 Topps Baseball "Boyhood Photos Of The Stars" (one I apparently have a duplicate of because I already had a scan of it). Anyway you want to see the cards not read by blabbering.

Cards 1-88 Unmarked

1969 Topps Baseball 214 3rd Series Checklist
Cards 219-327 (Plus Autographed Photos 1-33)

COTW: A 1973 Kellogg's Baseball Met

A 1973 Kellogg's Baseball Met

What time is it? Who cares? It's Whenever, and here is a card of the whenever that I got recently. Actually I am not sure of the exact delivery date because it was in a batch of "held" mail that I received about mid month when I returned from a family business related thing in the Mid-West So it could have arrived as early as Friday 13 Sep or as late as Monday 16 Sep.

It is a 1973 Kellogg's Baseball Card. Now I like most of the Kellogg's 1970s cards, mostly because of the early 1970s 3-D effect. However, this set is not 3-D it is the first set Kellogg's did without the 3-D imaging If I recall. For some reason I don't like this set nearly as much as I do the other Kellogg's sets even if you ignore the whole 3-D thing. Anyway this card is of one of my PC guys I started to collect back in the day as a PC guy before I even knew that PC Player Collecting was even a "thing".

I got it from Sportlots for the opening 25¢ bid plus $2.00 shipping.

Strive For '65 Saturday: A Little Help From Sportlots Stores

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
30 Mar 2019
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 294/598 (296/600) 49.2%

Here is the link to my last update from November of last year. Once again I am slipping slipping with this ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK! Procrastination is making this post closer to being a Sunday post than a Saturday, not quite though still a few hours before that happens.

I made a big jump with some purchases from Sportlots stores. But Ouch not yet at 50% but oh so much closer. I also got some 1965 OPC cards (2 Senators and 1 Orioles Rookies pair) on 25 Mar. I really need to get all the Senators from that set, as well as the Orioles (for both sets), the team cards, some of my PC players, and the World Series cards. I might as well build the OPC set also. Right now I only have 4 of those though.

Thursday 21 Mar 2019:
Got two packages (a large PWE and a small bubble mailer) that had a total of 16 cards 13 of which are 1965 Topps (plus the three 1965 OPCs and a 1970 OPC card). Total shipping for the two packages was $5.50 card prices ranged from 49¢ to $1.99 with most being between 75¢ and 99¢.

Here are the cards:

192 Jim Coker Reds

213 Jim Davenport Giants

223 Dan Osinski Braves

227 Bobby Klaus Mets

229 Lou Clinton Angels

230 Ray Sadecki Cardinals

235 Chuck Hinton Indians

237 Bernie Allen Twins

251 Billy Herman Red Sox Mgr

283 Fred Whitfield Indians

287 Gary Kolb Braves

288 Jack Hamilton Tigers

392 Bob Friend Pirates

Interesting the back of Bob Friend's card does not have a cartoon/comic making the back of his card look almost like a manager's card.

Bonus 1965 OPC Cards:
I already have the Topps versions of these, even the 1965 Orioles Rookies card. These '65 OPC cards count into my Senators PC, Orioles PC and Kirk/Curt niche PC

Strive For '65 Saturday: A Poker Hand Sight Unseen

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
08 Apr 2017
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
 Current card count: 262/598 (264/600) 44.1%

Here is the link to my last update that included a special "variant" bonus card that doesn't count in the grand tally of the set. This update includes a couple of unintended dupes, but the card count did go up a few.

Monday 03 Apr 2017:
I ended up winning a Sportlots auction 5 card lot of 1965 Topps Baseball. A week or so ago I had tried for another card lot from the same seller but didn't win that 10 card lot. Both lots the one I won and the one I lost were sight unseen the seller doesn't include scans in his auctions either he doesn't bother or he doesn't have the ability to. I'm thinking the latter. He manages to get his lots sold though. He uses BuyMyCards.net as was evident with the packaging for the lot I received.

Since I had no image to go by and he didn't list the card numbers I was flying blind with this lot. I had feared that I might end up with 5 cards I already had. Fortunately there were only 2 duplicates in the lot. All of the cards were in excellent shape so I might swap these dupes with my previous copies depending on conditions. As I said earlier I had tried for a 10 card lot of '65s but lost that one. This lot I thought I would loose as well especially since the bid went from my original 25¢ bid up to $1.25 fortunately that was the highest it went and I was high bidder. Shipping was also high at $5.00 ouch. I'm guessing a lot of that was the handling via BMCN. The cards were each in penny sleeves. the 5 card lot was sandwiched between two card sized pieces of cardboard (pretty good box cardboard) and sealed in a clear plastic bag/pouch, and that pouch was in a larger plastic "team" sized bag. OH actually I think the "team" bag was a bubble bag that was sealed shut.

One of the pieces of cardboard "bread" had a "BuyMyCards.Net" stamped on it, plus the return address and mailing label had the BMCN on it so I knew where it came from. I'm going to look into that place if all the shipping is done this nicely. So here are the 50+ year old cards for my ancient set build I got.
