COTW: AAGPBL Maddy English

1994 Ted Williams Baseball 95 Maddy English AAGPBL Racine Belles
You guessed it, it is the end of the month and I didn't have anything prepared so I am rushing something out to make my self-appointed blogging quota of at least one post per month. Fortunately for this month I sill have a few images that I have uploaded to the photo album of this blog that I haven't blogged about here. I scanned this card and talked about elsewhere. I had posted this card sometime last year I think over at the TCC forum in one of those all-out contests where contestants show off cards they have that fit a certain category as picked by the contest holder/judge and then usually forum members vote on which they think is the best. I came in third over all I think. I forget what the category was, maybe female athletes, but this is one of the cards I posted. A few years back I used to use my photobucket to post pics on the forums, but I don't use "the bucket" much any more. I mainly just keep it as an alternate storage space. At that time I started using the albums from the blogger blogs since I could then easily blog about any cards I posted on the forums, or blog about something first then post on the forums.

So here we go a single card from the 1994 Ted Williams Baseball set. I may have blogged about this set before or the Ted Williams card company that made the set. If not you can Google the card company (or Bing if people Bing anymore). It is one of the seven cards from the "Women of Baseball" subset that features key players from the AAGPBL (All American Girls Professional Baseball League) the woman's league featured in the movie A League of Their Own about women's baseball during WWII.

ACK! I've Got Nothing Of A Post

ACK!
Once again  have let a month slip by me and have to rush to get a post in before the end of the month to meet my own personal posting quota of at least one post a month. Even if it is a quick and dirty one. Well I do have a few things I really want to post but my damn procrastination of doing the necessary scanning for them prevents me from making those posts. Some of them are partly drafted up just waiting for their scans dontcha know.

In the quick and especially dirty. There is the world of politics. This being an election year and the choices we have are not very enjoyable. That reminds me I need to look out for the latest version of these things.

Since 1972 every election year there has been at least one company that has put out a deck of Parody playing cards that feature the popular political figures of the day. They are called Politicards. Somewhere around here I had mentioned the originals. Since this is a quick and dirty post I am not going to go hunting for my past post that barely mentioned the Original 1972 deck. My "Politicards" label should lead you to it.  To the best of my knowledge I have each of the decks except for this current 2016 set.  Which I think they went super cheesy on this year with making kid versions of the politico caricatures and calling it "PolitiKids".

This was just a quick and dirty way to slip in a card I had scanned at one time but apparently haven't posted about. Due mostly to discussing this card on a trading card forum for some all out bring em out drag em down throwdown contest I came in 3rd or 4th or something.

Washington Wednesday: Wes Unseld Hall Monitor

WASHINGTON WEDNESDAY: Wes Unseld Hall Monitor

In early January of this year 2014. I bought this sweet shiny card from a fellow member form the TCC forums for just $5 delivered. A Wes Unseld Bullets card number 22 It is from the 2013 Panini Prizm Basketball set The "Hall Monitors" 25 card Hall of Fame Sub-Set. I might try for a partial rainbow of Wes Unseld but with two 1/1 "black parallels" (Black Prizm and Black Prizm Mosaic) a full rainbow is next to impossible. There are enough of the other colors to make even a partial rainbow hard. I might try to get the base cards (and maybe some parallel colors) of a few of the other players: Moses Malone, Earl Monroe. Not sure if I'll try for a full base set of this sub-set.

Trading Zone Secret Santa

One of the trading card forums I frequent TCZ (Trading Card Zone) had a Secret Santa round of trading for the Winter Holidays. The Santa doesn't have to identify themselves, and usually don't but depending on the group it can be figured out, or they eventually identify themselves if pressured, or the recipient is flipping out over not knowing. I know who my Santa was. For this year I only got two cards but they are beauts. It doesn't really matter how many cards you get, or even the monetary value of the cards, the important thing is that based on your wants and likes that you provided the coordinator, your Santa did their best to try and find something you might enjoy.

Here is what I got:

on the Left: 2003 Upper Deck SPX Combos C-RR Cal Ripken Jr. Orioles and Scott Rolen Cardinals #d 86/90
and on the Right:  2012 Panini Leaf Limited Limited Greats Autograph 29 Frank Howard Senators Auto on-sticker Blue sharpie #d 195/299 (I had gotten and blogged about #007 for myself from Ebay on my Cury W Cards blog)

Here are the backs:

As for what I had sent. My "good little Collector" he is an Andrew Luck Super Collector so I sent him a bunch of mostly Luck cards with 2 or 3 other guys. He really enjoyed what I sent, he had some of them but not all of them. Just as I had one of these cards, but not the other.

Sports Card Album Website

I recently discovered a collection tracking, maintaining website (via one of the card forums I frequent TCZ) called appropriately enough Sports Card Album. Actually now that I'm using it and when I saw the logo, I seem to recall a few months back seeing announcements of its coming and being in beta status. It has officially launched now, I joined up a few days after the big start-up apparently.

It's main purpose to be a way to add your cards simply and quickly online via your mobile device so it has a vertical scrolling format, which can sometimes be a bit bothersome on PC. Since it has barely been a day since I've signed up and started working with it I am still getting familiar with most of the functions. The search or limited ability to search is a little irksome, that and it appears that you can't really organized your cards the way you want to. They appear to be only in the order that you entered them, newest on top.

If you follow friends or other members on the site the default searching just shows their collections and yours, not any others. You have to go back to "all cards" to see other peoples stuff. Searching seems to be limited to player, I haven't really tried any other ways of searching.

They do have some links to some of the social media things like Twitter (they seem to be big on that, I'm not real big on Twitter), Facebook, You-Tube and Ebay but they don't have a link to Zistle yet.

One Year Ago Today!

Amazing little internet tidbit. One year ago today I made a post on a card collecting website called Ultimate Wax that alas has been dead for a little over a year now. My last post there mentioned how it had been more than 2 months since there was regular posting at that site. Since then there were 1 maybe two unfortunate people who "joined" the site after it had pretty much up and died. The thread subject title is "if you log in every day but dont post cuz there is nothing to reply to post here". Sad the site was in use for just a little more than a year.

Note: Unless there has been recent activity on the Ultimate Wax website this post entry will be automatically posted at the same time of day I originally posted my message over there.

Death of a Card Website

ULTIMATE WAX.COM

Back a little over a year ago. I was told about a card website that sound interesting from another member on TCC (www.tradingcardcentral.com) the new site new to me anyway was "Ultimate Wax" I signed up it looks like on 10 Feb 2009. At the time I was looking for another card site to see if I could broaden my horizons and find alternative card forums to get more trading done. It doesn't hurt to belong to more than one site forum and outside of the dead Ulitmate Wax I belong to 4 I think. I had noticed many of the card bloggers I followed had several sites they frequented. I am mostly loyal to TCC but in the last year I have signed up for other sites and have a few small trades elsewhere, but TCC is my "home". Anyway with Ultimate Wax I started becoming a semi-regular, and after a few months got to 100 posts on the site.

The biggest problem from the beginning was the lack of presence from the owners/operators. They would pop in every now and then but not very frequently. Some of the members there were honestly pretty obnoxious and one or two were crude.

There was a brief moderator sighting around mid December I think it was. Then as I said the regulars didn't post as often. I still went there every day looking for updates and would try to get some of the threads rolling again, but hardly anyone would come. I cut down on my visiting to about once a week, and often there were still little or no updates. I would even mention in my posts there that the place looked kind of dead and there were no updates to any threads for a week. Lets see the last time I attempted to post there was on 24 Dec 2009, so correction the moderator sighting was probably in November. Well in January I still would visit about once a week, sometimes I visit once a day just to see if there are any updates.

So my last update on 24 Dec 2009 was THE LAST Update by anyone. So the site is basically dead, but not officially. I think the guy marked as being the last new member signed up around 15-20 Dec 2009.

One of the things that cracks me up about the site is the note that tells you when you were last active reads "Last active: 12-31-1969 at 07:00 PM". Hmmm 1969 really? When I was like 4 about 20some years before the internet would be mainstream for the average Joe.

Oh well. It was a fun little site for a while. Not great, but I did manage to make one or two trades there and maybe bought something from someone there. The moderators didn't respond very well to any attempts people made to contact them. Either they grew tired of the site, or they moved on to some other site to work on.

If the site ever gets anymore updates or shows signs of activity I guess I'll have to revisit and mention it again here.
