Rooster Shots

I gotted my rooster shots today. That's what I called them until Scooby called me a dumb baby and said they are booster shots.
I went to see that nice man the v-e-t named Dr. Rich. Mom says that Rich is his name but he could also be called Dr. Rich as in wealthy because of the prices he charges. Whatever.
I had my 1 year checkup. Actually I am 1 year and 3 months old and I now weigh 12 pounds. He said I am a big boy now. He stroked my fur and said it is full and glossy and he also squeezed my innards and said I feel good there too. He checked my toofs and ears and eyes and listened to my heart and lungs and said I am in perfect health and handsome too!
The ladies in pajamas came after the doctor left the room and gave me 2 shots, but they gave me a treat after and said what a good boy I am.
I frowed up after I gotted home, and the rest of the day I have just been doing a lot of sleeping. Way more than usual because those shot things do that to you. But Mom says I'll be up bouncing around off the walls just like normal tomorrow!

Empty Nest

What's this talk about us living in a nest?
That's for the birds and we are cats living with their people.
Mom is telling everyone how we have an empty nest now that the 18 year boy is on his own and the college boy has gone back to finish his last year.
She says it's just her & dad now.
AHEM! Pardon me....
Even if this isn't a nest, it is far from empty!
There are 6 guinea pigs and 3 cats here as well as Mom & Dad.
People and their sayings! Go figure. They never make any sense.

It's A Zoo Out There

Mom was not going to put out food for neighborkitty Tiger any more because of the big possum we told you about in the last post.
She thought about it and decided to put it out once more as usual and turn out the lights and see what shows up.
It was a regular parade out there!
First she heard some crunching, and when she looked out the window there was a masked face looking back at her. A raccoon!
Later she heard a tiny noise, and it was Tiger here for his snack. She went out to greet him and pet him and she saw a small possum watching from under a chair.
The little possum ran away and Tiger ate some crunchies. Then when he was finished and was washing his whiskers, he turned and looked down into the yard. Mom thought to herself "something's coming." It was a really big racoon! Probably a 25 pounder! Tiger sat down about a foot from the dish and they were out there together just like old friends.
Mr. Big Racoon ate quite a bit of the food, and Mom sat up & watched for more critters but none came and she was getting pretty tired. There was about 1/2 dish of food left.
But this morning the dish was empty, so there were even more visitors in the night.
Mom wants to put up a sign saying "Mom's Diner" but she knows now she can't be putting out food like that anymore. She said she will feed Tiger when he appears and thats it.
Of course us cats knew all about our nocturnal visitors, but it sure took Mom a long time to catch on!!!!

A Possum!

Mom has been wondering why big bowls of food she leaves out for Tiger are completely gone in the morning and why the water in the big dish is
mostly gone and dirty.
Well last night mom was sitting by the open windows with us in the living room when suddenly we all came to attention and turned toward the window.
Mom figured it was Tiger and went to the window to say hello.
What should she see but the biggest possum she's ever seen in her life!!! That fellow had to be at least 10-12 pounds!
He was gray and had a pointy face & snout and beady eyes and a skinny rat tail!
He saw her looking at him and waddled down off the deck and through the yard.
We didn't know there were possums in Minnesota. She said when they lived in San Diego 20 years ago there was a possum family that came to eat oranges from the trees at night. But they were quite small.
Does any one out there know what areas they typically range over? Is the one we saw unusually large? Or maybe it was a pregnant female.
She is gonna try real hard to get a picture of him!

Tiger

This is neighborkitty Tiger. He's about 10 years old. He "lives" next door but his people threw him out of the house because he is diabetic and pees inside on the bed & stuff. He's always spent a lot of time outside but last fall mom noticed he never went in anymore. She asked his lady. She is Korean and hard to understand but she told mom about the peeing and how she won't have it in her house. They put out cheap crunchies for him if they remember.
Mom made a few places for him to sleep with rugs & stuff and she got an old small dog igloo from our other neighbors who weren't using it any more and made a cosy place for him to shelter in the winter. He hangs around our house a lot of the day. Mom can pet his head and shoulders but that's about it. He tangled with a raccoon last fall and his back got all torn up. So he is pretty sensitive about that. But his people took him to the vet for that, and he still gets his shots.
Mom feeds him canned food twice a day and leaves crunchies out at night for him with clean, cool water always. The other day she noticed that his fur is softer and more plush now than it was in the past. He looks kind of heavy in this picture but he is really quite thin.
A little loving care goes a long way!

Queen Mom

Momma broke a back tooth last night.
It hurted her alot when she had something cold or when air or the toothbrush touched it.
So she called the tooth v-e-t named Dr. Pink and he said to come right away this morning and he could fix it.
Now I know there are some cats out there missing a tooth or two and they seem to get along fine. And aren't there some amminals that just grow another one in its place?
Wonder why people can't do that. With all the time mom spends at the tooth v-e-t I know that would be something she'd like. Just grow a new one.
Anyways...Dr. Pink shot her all full of nov-e-kane and filed down the tooth. Mom says she hates the sound of that drill going rrrrr-rrrrr-rrrrrr-rrrrrr.
Then she said they made her a "temporary" tooth to use while a gold crown is made for her! She must have been very nice for the doctor to get a crown. Queens & royalty wear crowns.
In fact this makes 4 crowns for our mom, so she must be the Super Queen of the Universe!

My Favorite Place

Here's my favorite place in the whole house.
The remodled bathroom in mom & dad's bedroom.
It's got this neat super deep sink and a new faucet that is just the right height for drinking water drops. And they are so fresh and cold!!
I spend a lot of the day trying to get mom to turn it on so I can drink from it. It is way better than water from a dish.
Mom calls this the watering hole.
It's also a good sleeping hole!

Night Frights

It was a dark & stormy night.
Trees bending in the wind and thunder booming in the distance.
Mom had trouble sleeping and since she likes a good storm she got up to go watch it in the living room.
Carefully, carefully she took baby steps shuffling slowly down the dark hallway. She stepped on Shaggy once before and it wasn't pretty, and since she didn't turn on the light and because humans can't see at all
in the dark, she inched her way along.
Lightning flashed on the walls, and as she came to the end of the hallway to the kitchen.........
"Aieeeeeaaaa" she screamed!
Scout was laying in wait for her toes....... and .......pounce ! ...... he got her good!
Way to go Scout!
I've taught you well.

They're Home!

Mom and Dad went to North Dakota on Friday to visit our Gramma, also known as Dad's mom.
His brother got a call from the nursing home where she is that she wasn't doing very well, and they had her moved to hospice. So mom & dad decided to pay a quick visit. Well, when they got there she was dying!!! No kidding! They got there at 2:oo and she passed at 6:15! No one had any idea this was gonna happen. Seems like she decided in her mind the night before that is was time to go and that was it, the nurse said. Mom & dad got there just in time, but the other 2 brothers didn't cause one was flying in from Florida and the other one came from Minneapolis the next day.
So they stayed longer than they planned to have a funeral and all the stuff people do.
We missed Mom terribly, the piggies too, even though College Boy was here to take care of us. (He had a party while they were gone, shhhhh, don't tell.) Mom was worried Scout would try to escape, but he was good.
So anyway, while mom & dad are sad to see her go they are also relieved, because she wasn't well for a long time and now she's in a better place.
Kind of like the Rainbow Bridge, but for people.
