Little Cat Feet

Shaggy and his littermate brother Scooby came to live with us in October 2005, when they were 5 years old. Scout arrived in 2006 at the age of 6 weeks. Scooby passed over very suddenly to the Rainbow Bridge on April 1, 2012 and is remembered fondly and missed deeply.

When Pee Freezes Over

Lazer eyes, watching you!
This is an older picture of Zolie in her little domicile in the garage.  To the right on the top of the freezer is her heated hidey hut. She practically lives in there during the winter. As a feral, Zolie is very elusive and suspicious of everything. She'll hop over ledge above her to hide behind the wall if mom gets too close. She doesn't mind dad as much, and will just sit and blink at him. It's probably moms screechy voice that scares her. She tries to be less screechy, but Zolie doesn't trust her, even though mom is the food bearer.  And the litter box cleaner.  You know it's cold when the pee clump freezes to the bottom of the litter box and you have to wait for things to thaw before it can be scooped up.

Cast-Off Day! (With Pictures)

Last night in the cast
Goodby pink friend
Mom let us sniff the surgery site on her thumb when she came home from getting her cast off today. It was intriguing...we each gave it a thorough sniffing. First off we must say that her arm looks like something the woofie dragged home. All dessicated and shriveled with skin falling off...ewww. Then Shaggy head bonked her hand and she howled in pain. Everything is sore and stiff and unbending right now. So no headbonking, even if we think it is the best thing for it. She said her x rays look good and in a couple weeks she will start hand therapy. She has to wear a support brace for another 6 weeks but can take it off for showers. She is not allowed to lift things either.  And she for sure can't open any cans with that hand for awhile!! She says frankly, it feels like a set back even though 2 months in a cast is over and it's progress. There was a certain comfort level that developed with the cast and now the hand/wrist is starting over again with new pain.  Never fear...we are on duty for her....just no headbonking.   -Scout

Pepsi Boxes

Mom & Dad are home from helping move Gramma into the nursing home. She reports that it is a gorgeous place with great helpers who genuinely enjoy being with the elderly.  She still wishes Gramma wasn't so far away, even though it's only 4 1/2 hours to North Dakota.  They had a blizzard while there, the worst in 3 years.  Mom says that in winds of 65 mph snow stings just like sand.  In other news, Mom's pink arm cast comes off on Tuesday!

Mom, Gramma and an Invitation

Shaggy & Mom
What do all of the above have in common?
The people are leaving town for the week and you are all cordially invited to a good old fashioned House Trashing party in their absence!
Our Gramma needs to move from her assisted living place to a new room in a nursing home.  She had what people call a little 'stroke' just before Turkey Day and has not been doing very well ever since.  Gramma is our Mom's mom. Now she needs extra help taking care of herself so Mom, Dad and mom's sister are going up north to help move her and get her comfortable in the new place. When kitties get stroked we love it but it's not so good for people. So...bring your best party toys and games, nip and any extra food you can smuggle out and join us this week!  -Shaggy & Scout

Enjoy the Box

See the date on the picture? A couple days after Christmas. Well, now it is January 10 and I am still enjoying The Box!  Mom has left it right there and I nap in it several times a week. Nothing better than a great box...or a mom who knows it's a great box and leaves it there!  -Scout

Deep Freeze!

Floof is an excellent insulator!
Kitties!
We in Minnesota and surrounding states are having some of the coldest weather in 20 years. It started in December and is still with us.  Nights have been sub zero and some days struggle to even make 10 above! These last few days have been the worst with daytime temps remaining below zero.   Tonight  and tomorrow will be the worst at -25 !!!!! Tomorrow our daytime high will be -15 with wind chill making it feel like -45 to exposed skin. If they don't cover their hairless skin they run the risk of frostbite. So people...cover your ears!  Scout & I and all the blogosphere kitties who live around her all have nice, warm homes to keep us safe. Even our garage cat Zolie has a little heated kitty tent out there that keeps her warm. But mom worries for all the feral and homeless kitties who may not have an adequate shelter to hide in. If they haven't found anything by now they surely won't survive this.  We ask prayers for all animals who must endure this cruel weather.  We are the fortunate ones.  Brrrrrrr, Shaggy & Scout
