Back in May we organised a Yorkshire Ride Out with HebTroCo. Among a bunch of great bikes was a very neat very neat, street trackered XS650 built by and belonging to 'Texas' Chris Jenner and American living in the UK. Nothing particularly unusual, there were a few good looking street trackers among the mix. What was interesting was I knew Chris was heading to dirt track practice at Greenfield the next day on the very same bike.
Chris is a graduate of the University of Dirt Quake, yet another rider who has undertaken their first motorcycle race at Dirt Quake, only to be seduced by the action and atmosphere and then bought or built a bike to race more seriously.
Chris took off the front brake and light overnight in preparation for the practice. These aircooled Yamaha twins are solid machines, but it didn't stop Chris, a BMX rider, launching it off the Greenfield TT jump and even crossing it up in mid-air, looking like a 21st Century Kenny Roberts. Great photo by James Boddy.
The DTRA Greenfield TT is on this weekend. Spectator entry is free, but car parking is £5. There is a bar on site, camping, and two days of racing.
Aim for Greenfield Farm, Alford, Lincolnshire, LN13 0EB.
A report of the Yorkshire Ride-out will be in Sideburn 25, coming very soon. G

Dirt Quake Chopper
Mike is racing his pride and joy XS750 on 8 June, in the Dirt Quake Chopper class.
Entries are £25 plus £10 for a day licence. All entries are being handled online and entries close one week before the event. We can't take entries on the day. Sorry.
Riders will get 3 x 6-lap heats races and a final (if they qualify for it).
All bikes must be pre-approved (so we don't get something appropriate trying to race). Send a photo to dirt at sideburnmagazine.com and we'll get back to you with details of how to enter. G

Professor Eric
From Mule. Don't know too much about it, but thought we should share it.
It's obviously an XS. Those look like Yam forks and brakes. And the Mule called it Professor Eric. We'll find out why in due course.
The Shell sticker refers to Shell Thuet, the close to legendary Yamaha tuner. What I didn't know what that he was in the bike club, the 13 Rebels, whose Holister burn-up was exaggerated by the press and turned into the story of The Wild One. And I only found it out because I read it on the excellent blog The Selvedge Yard. The Selvedge Yard even says Brando's character was based on Thuet. Incredible. Is Shell still alive? G

ForkCo XS
A chance meeting with Tom of Japanese company ForkCo, at January's Verona Show in Italy led to Sideburn landing a Japanese distributor. It'll take time to build out there, but it's great to have Tom on our side. Especially when he's building bikes like this. GI
