On the line, just trying to keep the bike you've resurrected from dying before the flag waves. You are surrounded by good friends and strangers, all looking to get a little sideways a fraction of a second ahead of you. The guy next to you is on a 650
British twin, you are on a lighter 250 2 stroke..."run what you brung" at its finest.

We are happy to announce the first annual Iron and Resin Hooligan Derby, taking place in our home of Ventura, CA. Ventura Raceway, an oval track affectionately known as "the best little dirt track in America" is a perfect setting for some dirt slinging amongst like minded friends. Open to all comers, our hope is that this will encourage a new breed of rider/racer to come out and share in the festivities.

Pre mix, 4-stroke, Japanese, American, Brit... if you can kick it, you can race it.

The first day of races is Saturday, April 14. Head over to Ventura Raceway's website to enter for $45 bucks. All racers get a limited I&R tee, and after the race we will be nursing our wounds and our egos with drinks at The Tavern, just on outhe other side of the tracks.

See you all there, on the line, hoping for a little bit of glory!

What's up GI?
If all goes well, I'll be taking a second shot at flat track this Saturday. Worked the bike over a bit: new Works shocks, Davey Durelle re-valved, shortened, and re-sprung forks, new plug, adjusted timing, and went to a larger rear sprocket.
Hope to get lapped by fewer people this time!

Dumped XS650

This photo of an outlaw clown is tattooed on my brain. Why is the ridiculous so attractive? Back at my Mum's again this weekend I ritually wheeled out my rusty XS to poke it with a stick and scrape off the pigeon shit. I dropped the yokes to check the angle of dangle if it were to be fitted with standard length fork tubes. BP

Some great photos of a chopper club dirt track race in Finland on Church of Choppers. I can't believe they waited till October to run a dirt track race for choppers. It would've been hard enough in the dry. Respeck!

Dang fun: Hooligan class

From Garrett B in, I think, Colorado. Garrett is important to this blog because A. His bike was on the first ever post. B. He has a Mummies tattoo (and I love the Mummies). C. He has a neat Sporty street tracker. And D...

I FINALLY went racing this past Saturday! I rode in the "Hooligan" class for street legal bikes, on my sportster. There were 8 riders, and I got 2nd in the heat race and 3rd in the main.
I'm hooked! Plans are in the works for next season... I think I'll still run the Sportster in hooligans, but I'm converting the little Aermacchi to full-on race bike to run in the Vintage class. It's just a short track, so should be fine.

GI You raced in jeans?! Do you have to remove the front brake lever for that class?
GB: Jeans and VANS! Crazy or stupid I guess... I can really see how that hotshoe would be helpful! Almost kicked myself in the head. Next season will see some more protective gear... Brake stays on for Hooligans.
The guy who won the class was on a wild KZ750. He raced open pro later in the night. I stayed within a length of him in the heat race, but during the main he pulled away a bit, and I also got beat by a cb360. We lapped the field up to 5th. I got called a "sicko" by one of the riders, but there were a couple guys out there on choppers who I think were the real sickos.

GI: Did your buddy with the green Sporty race too?
Yeah, his name is Barry, he raced too. He's got that very cool Shawn Murray trackmaster tank.
It was his first time on a track of any kind, and he did very well considering he was on a 400-plus pound bike!

I was at the Western Reserve races you just featured. The hog ran in the streetbike class (of 2 bikes) and he actually ran it pretty hard, dragging floorboards! We all thought it was a good laugh, but were concered in that he almost was a candidate for the ambulance several times each time out and that would delay the already long program until a new ambulance arrived.
I was riding a little TTR125 #4F in the pitbike class and am looking for a proper cheap bike for next year. Good fun.
The #41 in the yellow gear who goes like hell is Ricky Marshall, and that's a National #41. He's not a national campaigner over funding now, but still goes like a raped ape... Roger

King Kirk is a Jedi of Chris Carr and tail gunner. This means because of his dress sense, choice of antique ride, and general bad attitude, he always gets placed at the back of the starting grid. But he isn't bothered, he just picks off the enemy one by one from behind. So watch your arse. You have been warned.
P.S. We're not sure what the gang hand-signs mean, but they're probably rude.
