BootLEGO Batman v Superman Aquaman

I'm pretty sure you can't get an official LEGO Momoaquaman minifigure (yet), but thanks to the magic of the great big 'F-U' China gives to American copyright laws, you can get a BootLEGO Momoaquaman!

The Batman v Superman version of Aquaman sure has some luxurious locks, and while they don't have the blonde streaks/tips that Aquaman sports in the movie, his arms do sport those sweet Polynesian tattoos!

Momoaquaman is one of the higher-end BootLEGOs. He's pretty high quality - just a smidge south of LEGO quality.

If you're an Aquaman fan and have like .87 cents to spare, you ought to track him down on eBay today!

LEGO Great White Shark (and Aquaman too!)

Ever since I got a hold of this LEGO Aquaman minifigure I've wanted to get my hands on the extra large LEGO shark. I've accumulated a handful of standard LEGO sharks over the past few years, but they're guppies in comparison to this guy.

Why LEGO didn't package these two together is beyond me. In fact, I'm tempted to create a mini box for these two recreating the classic MEGO Aquaman vs. the Great White Shark set.

In addition to having pegs on his back so your minifigures have a place to stand, you can clip your minifigures hands to the shark's dorsal fin so they can go for the ride of their lives!

According to Brickipedia, this large shark has only appeared in two sets since his debut: LEGO Agents Speedboat Rescue in 2008 and Brickbeard's Bounty in 2009. Suffice it to say due to these limited and long ago releases, the large LEGO shark goes for around 25 bucks or more on the secondary market. Which is why I didn't own him until this past weekend, when I found him at the flea market for a dollar. Pro tip: sometimes it pays to look in those baggies and bins of cheap McDonald's toys. In fact, if you want something for less than expected prices those are the best places to look, because that's where a seller will toss all the stuff they assume is worthless. Truth be told I almost didn't take my own advice, and only found this guy because I made a second run-through that day.

"Who you callin' lame?"

I have now amassed an impressive undersea army for Aquaman to command, including the sawfish, a white Great White, an octopus and a crab. Evil-doers beware!

As you can see there's really no comparison between the standard LEGO shark and this massive beast.

And as if his other interactive features weren't enough to make this guy the funnest finny friend your LEGO minifigures could possibly want...

...his mouth opens extra wide...

...and he can gulp down an entire minifigure!

Not only that, but you can completely close his mouth while the minifigure is inside.

Literal HOURS of fun right there, boys and girls. Hours of fun.

Upcoming Imaginext Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy!

Revealed at the 2014 Toy Fair is this wonderful pair from the Sponge Bob Square Pants cartoon: Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Imaginext figures!

Now it is well known that I am no fan of Sponge Bob (or is it Spongebob?) But Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy are parodies of not only the obvious Aquaman and Aqualad, but also of Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin. Which makes them pretty awesome in their own right, without even mentioning that they are voiced on the cartoon by the late Ernest Borgnine (Mermaid Man) and Tim Conway (Barnacle Boy).

These are a must have for me, and will be slid directly into my Imaginext Justice League roster when I find them.

Epic Lego Super Hero Battle Royale!

This epic Lego Super Hero Battle has been a waging work in progress since I acquired the Lex Luthor Mech Suit set for Christmas in 2012. Every time I get (or customize) a Lego Super Hero I add it to the battle. I have yet to add any villains - it's more fun to imagine Lex, in his hubris, thinking he can take them all down on his own.

Currently in battle with Lex are the Superman and Wonder Woman minifigures that came with this set, as well as Batman (from the Catwoman Catcycle City Chase set) Iron Man and Thor each from individual poly-bag releases, a modified Robin from a poly-bag set, Aquaman from the Batboat set, and my custom JSA Sandman and JSA Flash to round out the mix.

Lego Arctic Batman and Aquaman - Slightly Modified

I found an incomplete Arctic Batman Lego set at the flea market last weekend, but couldn't pass it up for just $5 because it had a complete Lego Aquaman in the baggie. Also, I have tons of spare Lego pieces at home, so I figured it was worth the gamble. Unfortunately the only part of Batman himself present in the baggie was his white cowl and his Batarang, but I was able to easily create an Arctic Camo Batman with pieces I have lying around!

The set did have Aquaman and his frozen prison, making it worth the cost of admission alone.

Aquaman is a good minifigure. His head has two expressions as most of them do these days. He is missing his trident, but I might have one from the king Mermaid minifigure from a few waves back. I will have to look.

The baggie had most of the parts to make Batman's ski boat. One front spoiler and one side blade is missing, making it unbalanced designwise, so I modified it a bit by filling in the front with red and adding the motor on top. I might add some side pipes or something eventually, but this was a quick fix to see what was missing and what I needed to do to make it passable.

All in all, not bad for five dollars.

On the first day of December, the Flea Market gave to me...

Oh, California. Gas prices are insane. Living costs are through the roof. Want to own a home? Sure thing, Dr. Rich Moneybags, Esquire, with your double income and life savings you qualify for a loan on this nice little studio apartment. 500 square feet of pure luxury!

But the weather. Ahhh the weather. Perfect Flea Market weather year round. So here I am on December 1st, sweating in a t-shirt in the 70 degree sunshine, digging through other peoples' junk and buying nostalgia for a quarter.

Life, it's full of trade-offs.

Anyways, here's what I scored today - some or all of it may or may not be looked at in detail in the future, because it's my blog and I'll do what I please. But all of it is fun and deserves to be mentioned here, because it's quite the eclectic pile of loot.

Starting in the back we have a little Tomy wind-up toddler on a wagon. I remember these from when I was a kid, it's late seventies or early eighties. I'll have to look into it further.

Then there's Megavolt, a Darkwing Duck villain. He's supposed to have 'sparking' action - on his back is a wheel like a lighter with an internal flint. It's jammed, but I might be able to clean it up and make it work. Regardless, I do have a Darkwing Duck action figure already, so it's nice to have a villain for him to battle.

Next is a Funko 'Where the Wild Things Are' monster. Yay, another Funko! See, I told you I'd end up with more Funko! I'm sure this monster has a name, but that will require more research.

Next to him is 'Killer Bee', a TMNT original series ride-on figure/vehicle. He's missing all his accessories, and the headpiece to his electric chair, but is otherwise in excellent condition and is the first of these larger TMNT mutant rides that I have owned (of which I think there were two - this guy and a mosquito.) He's very cool, and will definitely get his own post soon.

In the middle is a Mega Bloks Wolverine and Captain America. These are Duplo sized and fit with those types of toddler sized blocks. I got these for my intern.

Next to those guys is a Skeleton Warrior, another first for my collection. He has one accessory, a knife and scabbard on his left leg. Otherwise he's in great shape minus all the other accessories he would have come with. I will have to look up his name too.

Lastly, in the front row is a Super Hero Squad Spider-Man and a little green plastic Aquaman from the eighties. I know I have seen him online before but I will have to do some research again to figure out his provenance.

Well, there you have it. A ridiculous pile of random ridiculousness, all costing less than one single new action figure. That's how I spent my December 1st. You can keep your white Christmas, but I am jealous of your reasonable cost of living!

More Brave and the Bold style action figures...for 2013?!?!

What the...?

This small image was just brought to my attention by a twitter friend. It's of a Target exclusive seven figure set of the Justice League called simply "Batman Legacy Justice League Figures"

This seven pack of figures appears to all be in the long ago canceled Brave and the Bold action figure style but includes a never before seen Cyborg, Hal Jordan Green Lantern, a beardless Aquaman and omg - WONDER WOMAN (in a line that Mattel stated emphatically would not include any female characters).

This news really came out of left field! The set is unavailable online as of writing this post but will retail for $49.99, so I probably won't own it until it hits clearance (which it probably will.) I will also have to see it in person to make a final judgement.

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE! Apparently Target has Superman, Batman, Flash and Green Lantern figures available as singles, and while these are clearly the Brave and the Bold style figures, you can see the much maligned hex holes are no longer a part of the figures' sculpts (a change I said would happen way back in my first B and the B toy review in 2009 - but even I never expected it to be so late in coming!)

(pic borrowed from eBay. Don't be stupid enough to buy them there now. They'll be plentiful and cheaper soon, I promise.)

Depending on the price of these, I'll probably get that Batman. Sadly it appears Wonder Woman is not part of a single figure release, and if past Target multi-pack exclusives are any indication, I doubt she ever will be.

Has anyone seen these at retail yet?

Now I need to get Green Lantern to complete the team (until Imaginext creates Wonder Woman or Hawkgirl etc, that is!)

Imaginext Aquaman Found at Retail

Today I totally happened upon the latest addition to the JLI (Justice League Imaginext) and although I was originally on the fence about getting him, once I saw him in person I could not pass him up; inexplicable yellow boots or not!

I found Aquaman at, of all places, Sears, selling for $6.99!

They also had an all black suit Batman with a personal sub/flippers; the only other new release I saw. This blurb on the back is the only new/unique graphic on A-man's packaging.

Same silly painted on face as most Imaginext figures, but otherwise Aquaman has a bunch of unique sculpted parts. His flowing locks, those scales, and his fins and belt make for an exceptional figure.

Aquaman also comes with a robo shark...
...and trident to skewer this metal minion!

"Yoiks, and AWAY!"

Check out more awesome Imaginext JLA-ers:

Upcoming Lego Batman themed sets revealed!

Most news out of the San Diego Comic Con this year has done little to excite me.

Then, suddenly...THIS!

LEGO HARLEEN QUINZEL!!!!!!

OMFGHKJHIOTVOVBHIVYVOVYVYOVYAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on the other reveals thus far, I have to assume they are making an Arkham Asylum (or Arkham City) themed set (see Joker in prison garb below and hooded Robin!)

Also upcoming, The Dark Knight Rises themed Lego sets (see movie based Jim Gordon and Bane above!) and a new Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, Penguin and even AQUAMAN (or is that AquaBieber hahahaahhaha ahem.)

These all look wonderfully wonderful and I will probably buy many of them, or I may not, depending on the sets they come with...but rest assured I WILL BUY A LEGO HARLEEN QUINZEL SO FAST!!!!!

Oh yeah, as expected there are also new Batman variants with each set (I can only assume the winter Bat above comes with the Mr. Freeze set.)

Sympathy for the Devil Ray

My recent JLU score also contained Devil Ray:

Why they couldn't call this guy Black Manta is beyond me (damn lawyers,) but there's no doubt about who he is supposed to be. Devil Ray has a great head sculpt, and a neat scuba/propulsion pack on his back, as well as many fine painted on details...

...including "guns" painted on each of his forearms. Nice touch!

Black Manta Devil Ray looks good next to my Superpowers Aquaman which I recently acquired in a toy trade.
Classic Aquaman all the way - this Superpowers action figure has an "action feature" like all figures in the line. Aquaman's legs "kick" when you squeeze his arms for fast swimming action!

Hmmm, these guys are fun together. I think I need a bath. I'll just take these guys into the bathroom with me so no one steals them. Yeah, that's it.
