Imaginext Bigfoot

Bigfoot here, with his pet fish, finally came to Toyriffic World Headquarters via a trade with Mason of D.I Treasures!

Originally released in Imaginext's blind bag Series 2, which was somehow a series that blew through my area so fast I completely missed it. Bigfoot is an awesome American legend so it's great to have his Imaginext version finally become part of the collection. Thanks Mason!

But wait...there's something not right about this guy...

HEY! It's just a guy PRETENDING to be Bigfoot! Just like, well, every Bigfoot ever (that ought to elicit some interesting comments!)

You have to admit that it's pretty clever of Imaginext to release Bigfoot as a guy dressed as Bigfoot. It's so meta!

LEGO Simpsons Series 2 Bartman :: Hitting Stores NOW!

We went to the Toys R Us Star Wars Day free LEGO build event today and built a sweet mini Wookie Gunship. We also met Geoffrey and my intern was not only not scared of the massive guy in a giraffe suit, but she hugged him and told him all about the snail she found that morning that was hanging around her neck in a little bug locket.

But the highlight of the day was also discovering that the Simpsons Series 2 LEGO Minifigures  are out now! I didn't have much time to squeeze the packages but fortunately in the time I did have I found my #1 most wanted figure: Bartman!

As iconic as the Simpsons are today it's easy to forget how much Bartman is a product of the early nineteen nineties. The Simpsons were a fairly new phenomenon, and Bat-mania was hitting at a level that it hadn't seen since the sixties thanks to the Burton Batman movie of '89. The mash-up was perhaps not inevitable, but it happened anyways and sold a lot of t-shirts: Batman combined with Bart Simpsons (and 'nineties neon' too) and Bartman was born!

The LEGO Bartman minifigure comes with a cape and a slingshot. I won't waste your time with dot codes because to me those are worthless. I will say if you squeeze for these you will easily recognize Bart's cylindrical head and flat-top, and you can also easily distinguish the slingshot.

The other figures in this wave include:
Sunday-Best Homer, Sunday-Best Marge and Sunday-Best Lisa (who comes with Snowball 2 or 16 or whatever), Maggie with Santa's Little Helper. Milhouse as Fall-Out Boy, Comic-Book Guy, Professor Fink, Hans Moleman, Patty, Selma, Groundskeeper Willie, Mrs. Krabappel, Smithers Dr. Hibbert and Martin Prince.

I may seek out Fall-Out Boy, but since I now have Bartman if I don't get anyone else from this wave it won't be the end of the world.

LEGO Simpsons Blind Bagged Minifigures Series 2

LEGO just announced a second series of blind bagged Simpsons minifigures, due out May 2015. This series continues with iconic Springfield residents that didn't make the cut for the first release, but enough about them because...BARTMAN!

Of course including Bartman makes perfect sense - a simple and cost effective 're-paint' of the Bart Simpson from Series 1 - but I don't care if he's a re-hash. I have to have him! Fallout-Boy is also a must-have for me, as well as Santa's Little Helper and Snowball 2.

I'm looking forward to finding these guys in stores some time around May 2015!

25 - Caveman
26 - Artic Explorer
27 - Cowboy
28 - Frankenstien's Monster
29 - Jungle Explorer
30 - Steampunk Dude
31 - "Bigfoot"
32 - Glider Suit

Looks like there may be some different codes out there. I recommend you squeeze them to be sure!

I still have not seen these at retail, but people are finding them, so good luck and happy hunting!

Action Figure Insider recently got their hands on images of Fisher-Price's Imaginext Blind Bagged Series 2!

Let's take a look at the eight new characters in this wave, due out...soon?

Arctic Explorer. This guy reminds me of the skiing GI Joe guy,,,was his name Snow Job?

A guy dressed as Bigfoot. Not to be confused with the real Bigfoot!

Captainnn...oops, I mean...Caveman!

A Cowboy, who is apparently borrowing Wonder Woman's lasso of truth.

Frankenstein's Monster. This guy is worth having for that electrocution helmet/backpack alone!

Glider suit guy. Neat idea and execution on this one!

Jungle explorer? Crocodile Dundee? Steve Irwin? I love the snake wrapped up to his hat.

And finally, a Steampunk dude! I love this one and if I only get one of this wave it will be him!

Stay tuned to Action Figures Insider and here at Toyriffic for more news on Imaginext Blind Bagged Series 2!

WIN a bag of AJ's Toy Boarders Series 1 and 2!

The fine folks over at AJ's Toy Boarders sent me an extra bag of their newest Series 2 for review, and I still have an extra bag from my Series 1 review, so I figured a give-away was in order!

One lucky winner will receive both bags (Series 1 and Series 2)

How?

Read on!

First, let's take a look at Series 2. Like Series 1, at first glance you appear to have a bag of basic plastic army men. But look closer...

They're all skaters!

Not much to say about them beyond the cool/cute factor. Simple like the plastic army men/space men/firemen et al of yore, AJ's Toy Boarders recall a simpler time when toys didn't need bells and whistles and batteries and a wall outlet to be fun! I know I'd have pockets full of these if I were still in elementary school, playing with them on the playground and even illegally at my desk!

These will definitely make a great stocking stuffer for the little skater in your family.

Series 2 comes at ya' with eight all new sculpts...

There's "Trippy McSkidsalot,"

"The Green Hoody,"

"Specs,"

"Slouchy LeHatbackwards,"

"Upskirt Jones,"

"Gloria Grindslalot," (AJ's Toy Boarder's first female skater! Yay!)

"Flannel Pete,"

and...one more but I somehow forgot to get his picture! Which is where you come in and could win!

Name the missing member of AJ's Toy Boarder's Series 2. Oh, and this is a creative exercise, no need to actually describe the real missing figure. Make something up and be funny!

Leave your response as a comment and I will pick one winner on December 10th at midnight California time.

The only rule is: winner must be in the continental US. Sorry to all my international fans but it's almost Christmas so I can't be spending all that money to ship overseas!

What are you waiting for? All this could be yours!

Donkey Kong K'Nex Blind Bagged Minifigure

K'Nex dove into the minifigure pie recently by releasing some of their Mario Kart build set figures first in bags that identified the figure inside (making short-packed King Koopa harder to find for most because he was so easy to find for store employees, scalpers and the random lucky toy collector who got there first.)

For the second wave, K'Nex has blind-bagged the figures, forcing those of us in the know to employ the squeeze method. There may be a code on these somewhere too, but I find the squeeze method to be sufficient and don't feel the need to carry around a decoder sheet in my pocket everywhere I go.

Donkey Kong here is new to wave 2, as is Toad and Diddy Kong; wave 2 also includes all the wave 1 releases in case you missed out the first time on Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and King Koopa.

Like King Koopa (or 'Bowser' if you prefer,) Donkey Kong was a must have for an old-school gamer like myself. And I admit, now that I have his nemesees...nemesisis...nemsies...these two, I want a K-Nex Mario as well.

I don't know how many Donkey Kongs are released per box (I had heard King Koopa was two per box for wave 1, and DK is similarly large but not nearly as detailed/complex,) but somehow upon discovering these at K-Mart he was in both the first and second pack I squeezed! So maybe he's more plentiful, or I was just lucky. Hint: his mouth is football shaped and from there you can feel the 'tuft' of hair on the top of his head to confirm. He's also wider than most in this wave, so feel for that.

As you can see, I have recently employed an intern to help me complete my toy reviews.Thank God for Craigslist!

Although I don't think Donkey Kong appreciates the assist, and she spills my coffee every time! But what do you expect for free, right?

*NOTE: this post was made with extreme parental guidance and oversight. This toy does present a choking hazard and should not be left with a young child unsupervised. Also, this baby doesn't actually make me coffee. Yet.

Harley Qwednesday :: Playmobil Arkham City Harley Quinn

Arkham City Harley Quinn: Playmobil style! Custom by BubbaShelby:

Part of the play/fun value of the current Playmobil Fi?ures series is that, unlike your standard Playmobil 'klicky,' the 'Fi?ures' are designed be taken apart and mixed and matched together to create your own custom character.

An odd angle to take from Playmobil, who were never in the 'building toy' market before. But a neat concept and probably fun for kids. Also: a pain in the butt to those of us squeezing the packages to determine their contents!

At first I didn't care about or for the custom angle; the figures I wanted I wanted complete.

I wanted Zorro, not Zorro in a dress.

But now we're two series into 'Fi?ures' and I got to thinking: could I make a Playmobil Harley Quinn?

I think those things.

I figured, maybe I could do so if I can find other sets and use pieces with some of the Fi?ures out now...and I better not delay because once we get further into the series' run much needed parts may be long gone or hard to find!

Also, if I start now, in the future when a 'perfect' piece pops up in a set (ex: jester headgear) I can add/modify instead of starting from scratch.

I began looking at what was available now and in my mind's eye I formed a plan. A standard Harley is out of the question without major customization, and I'm not in the mood for that right now. Plus, I like keeping things like this 'simple.' Even YOU can do it!

I realized that with just two or three Fi?ures from Series 2 and/or (if I was lucky enough to find it still in stores) one from Series 1, I could make an Arkham City Harley Quinn! If the Series 1 figure I needed was unavailable, a third Series 2 figure would have to round out my custom.

I returned to the toy store where I found Series 2 last week and as luck would have it (although it took some time!) I was able to find all the figures I wanted, even the Series 1 figure (which was one of only three Series 1 girl figures left in the store!)

And now I am the proud (and probably only) owner of an Arkham City Harley Quinn Playmobil figure!

I may someday add a domino mask, or maybe smudged black eyeshadow, or red and black tips to the ponytails, but for now she's a simple parts-mix-custom that anyone can make using only three figures with the following recipe:

Arkham City Harley Quinn Playmobil 'klicky' recipe:
Series 1 Rocker Girl arms and pants.
Series 2 Geisha head.
Series 2 Gretel hair, torso and flowers (don't build all the flowers, leave a few off off for some broken stems.)
Optional: Series 2 Lara Croft handgun (only borrowed for now until I can find a more appropriate weapon, like a baseball bat or a bazooka or something less subtle than a simple handgun. Use your imagination and parts you already may have, Playmobil has tons of weapons available!)

The third Series 2 Fi?ure I purchased for parts was the cheerleader (because of her red arms) but the tattooed arms of the Rocker Girl were just too perfect for the Arkham City look, so I scrapped that idea. Also, while I had planned on maybe using her skirt, I discovered that the cheerleader has different torso/leg construction than most of the other Fi?ures, so she can't be mixed-and-matched in the same way.  But I'm sure the parts will come in handy in future series for future Playmobil Harley customs!

Anyways, as consolation and to validate the purchase, here's a picture of Cheerleader Harley:

I'll also be on the lookout for Playmobil nurse paraphernalia from now on for an Arkham Asylum Nurse Harley version!

Have fun!

(Tomb) Raiders of the Lost Playmobil

I'm not a particular fan of Lara Croft aka Tomb Raider - no more so than anyone is a fan of a buxom gal with dueling 9mms. I've not seen the movies and I think I only played one game once many years ago.

But the idea of a Playmobil version of Tomb Raider was just something I couldn't pass up. I love when toy companies blur the lines of copyright infringement (ex: Tech Deck), but even if this Playmobil Fi?ure from Series 2 weren't a blatant...ahem...homage to Lara Croft, it's still a dual gun toting badass girl and that alone makes it worth the $2.99 asking price.

"I got yer 'Princess' right here, pal!"

Lara comes with two 9mm handguns, a removable holster (which the guns snap into and stay - nice touch!) and a head-lamp for spelunking adventures.

Silver bullets not included.

My heart is on fire, Vampire!

One of the two female Playmobil Series 2 Fi?ures 'must-haves' for me was this Vampiress. This figure, like the Executioner in Series 1, just seems morbidly inappropriate for a young kids' toy line (I think of Playmobil as appealing to the under 10 set.) Making it something I just had to own.

Sure, a vampire may not immediately be considered as inappropriate, considering the proliferation of vampires in today's culture.

But one that comes with a glass of blood as an accessory?!?! Yeah, that's the kind of line crossing I have come to love from Playmobil.

One more thing separates this Playmobil figure from many of the others. Her face has much more detail than your standard Playmobil face. But wait...

...it's reversible, much like many recent Lego minifigure offerings! Which also means you can play out the age old scenario "Wealthy Countess invites you over for dinner, when suddenly you realize that the 'catch of the day' on the menu..."

"...IS YOU!"

Playmobil Fi?ures Series 2 Codes Cheat Sheet

UPDATE:: After collecting together all the ones I have and seeing the codes provided by others, and a little internet searching to confirm, I am convinced that the 'codes' are worthless unless maybe you buy a similar figure in the same store as one of us here (which is highly unlikely.)

I'll leave the codes up, and even add to them if people continue to send me info, but I don't think they are of any help.

That said, patience and the squeeze method have worked for me every time!

Here are the Playmobil Fi?ures Series 2 and their codes found by myself and others so far, all on this handy cheat sheet. I'll update it as often as I can.

Leave a message if you discover more and I'll add the codes!

Ballerina Code:

These are all ridiculously random. It looks like we can easily eliminate the first line of numbers and the last line of numbers, as many of those match without matching contents. The second line is the key, if there is a key at all; but similar figures have differing second line numbers, even when found in the same shipment (ex: jboy's Elvises.) Maybe there is no code. Oh well. Keep squeezing!

Playmobil Fi?ures Series 2 Found :: With Codes

UPDATE: All codes are being added to this post: http://toyriffic.blogspot.com/2012/03/playmobil-fiures-series-2-codes-cheat.html

I ducked into my local educational toy store today and discovered that their shipment of Playmobil Fi?ures Series 2 had arrived!

Sorry for the poor quality picture but I need new batteries for my camera. But this important news couldn't wait, so I took the pic with the computer.

I'll cover these guys individually soon, but here's what the squeeze method netted me (fortunately, everything I was looking for) and the corresponding codes from their packages:

Lara Croft Tomb Raider, or 'Generic tanktop and shorts clad female spelunker with dual 9mm handguns wink wink' Code:
02812  9921
001628
5158  01

Darth Vader Knock-off or 'Generic space alien villain type wearing a black helmet and cape wink wink.' Code:

Vampiress or...well...that's what she is and that's all that she is Code:

Elvis or 'Las Vegas type singing showman in gold trimmed jumpsuit with cape and pompadour nudge nudge' Code:

002526
5157  01

If anyone is able to use any portions of these codes to some success, please leave a comment. I'd love to know that these are actual product codes that betray the blind bagged figure within!
