SF Timeline Notes

Had been wanting to work on some setting timelines again and had a play with my sf one a bit. Might surprise ppl that SF i prefer to fantasy mostly. I like fantasy for it's referencing to history and archaeology rather than high fantasy tropes of crystals and flying ships.

So while crunching this I considered If I did a SF product I think space archaeology campaign would be what I would do as It is a theme not focused on yet is common in SF and even SF adventures. Old traveller black book had an ancient pyramid that I liked and the concept art of original alien film which was kind of used later.

Have run using DnD, BRP and my old homebrew d100 system I used 84-89. It started inspired by Top Secret SI and Starfrontiers and evolved more towards BRP so I just changed to that. Ringworld RPG and GURPS probably a huge influence too. I have my setting notes but not many mechanic notes or the huge spell lists I made for the fantasy version.

I might try a spacial map to go with this to show early periods only a few hundred light-years across to being

So some notes on this setting (I have played various past periods)
  • Technology templates used by colony ships are standard like the way most of planet use metric. Some colonies have alternate tech and specializations they have developed that is associated with more advanced tech
  • Colonies were equipped with templates to limit them and keep them thralls to their homes
  • Various peoples of Sol (Martian, Venusian, Selinites, Jovian, Terran, Belter) were influences on early colonies
  • Earliest colonies were isolated for up to a century and developed distinct culture and genotypes
  • Sol is far away and forgotten. It withdrew from communication with an interdiction field and built a Dyson sphere. Centuries later it vanished, withdrawn into hyperspace. Many old peoples of Sol left the system before this. Sol is mostly a myth to most of the galaxy. The old core colonies are closed to less advanced visitors
  • Those aliens you see, most used to be human. Humanity is allied with starfish and cephalopods. Once Terra faked an alien race "Proximen" to keep colonies united. Real aliens are rare. Some are leftovers of ancients now mostly primitive
  • Ancients left bioweapons and machines and ruins that are a threat to explorers and security of the whole sectors. Quarantine planets are common
  • Humanity and allies control about 2/3 of the galaxy loosely. Together they prevent virulent swarm outbreaks and excesses of pocket empires. Many warlords feel the great civilisations are impotent uncaring as long as you keep low tech
  • There are individuals who have survived thousands of years in cryonics accidents or become synthetics or reconstructed from data by AIs
  • Although Sol is gone, many who departed It before the end and operated at Template3 came to aid the mass of humanity as crusaders who came to wage war on threats against humanity. The last of them died fighting Makkara host from another galaxy
  • Using most advanced tech attracts trouble from lotechs who want it or worse awaken the advanced remnants of ancient weapon systems

Terrible Campagn Ideas: 70s Doctor Who using Cthulhu

So watching lots of 70s and early 80s SF and DrWho and I did have FASA DrWho RPG from 80s long ago. Occurred to me Call of Cthulhu with a few mods or BRP could work pretty well. I would fistly gear the sanity table to make people flee or feint mostly. Im not so interested in real depctions of mental health more the way it is used in fiction. In the Silurian a miner who saw cave lizard folk when mad and drew palaeolithic cave art on hospital walls plus others just die of fear. Other episodes had people go mad and hide. Certainly plenty of risk ignoring scientists out there. So some precedents for fear and sanity and include heart attacks more for NPSs. Heart failure might be an option for permanent insanity.

d12 Temporary Sanity

1 Flee and keep running until pass out exhausted
2 Flee and hide somewhere till it is safe
3 Flee screaming
4 Flee screaming, roll to avoid an accident or hazard in hysterical flight
5 Scream hysterically pointing and unable to act meaningfully
6 Paralysed with fear unable to move
7 Feint unconscious CON roll or lasts longer than temporary
8 Drop to floor or cover and curl into foetal position muttering or play dead
9 Cowardy panic and risk others in furious flight
10 Make heroic but possibly suicidal risk to attack or seek a weapon
11 Stagger away, blackout and remember nothing

12 Stunned and fall, get up and flee

d12 Permanent Insanity

1 Phobia related to trauma if triggered companion feels fear and discomfort
2 Surender and cooperate with evil everything will be fine
3 Ignore everything strange and get on with life, there is a rational explanation
4 Now eyes open see aliens and plots everywhere and obsessively document them
5 Deal with any lesser evil to get rid of the worse threat, win at any cost
6 Tell everyone your story every chance. People must know the truth!
7 Escape at all costs and prepare for possible horrors in the future
8 Take suicidal risks to destroy enemy by most destructive means or join an organisation
9 Dedicated to living a quiet ordinary adventure free life at home
10 Haunted by strange dreams and flashbacks in waking hours, real events?
11 Drug abuse and self-harm to cope with the horror
12
Heart failure CON roll or fatal otherwise a d6 damage

So the first table is for characters and npcs who get shocked mostly by strange death and alien beings or psionic effects. The second is the sort of stuff that messes up NPCs for future prequel adventures. Some of these might reduce your lifespan or make it hard to have adventures without peers kidnapping you.

Don't really need a Cthulhu mythos score or SAN loss to be as common. Possibly recover from just rest/ It is mostly to torment mooks and npc's you meet and in all likelihood, they won't survive, especially in the gothic horror period who of Tom Baker. Possibly you might take min SAN loss from aliens after a while.
I cant see books or san loss from information being relevant so SAN tables are mostly for seeing monsters or grisly mass murder.

Characters could all be timelords for the Celestial Intervention Agency or rebel timelords on the run with a tardis or one timelord a pc or npc and the rest mostly human assistants. The first Dr was a great NPC because he lied, tricked everyone just to see stuff and often was separated and spent hours in a palace while the companions had all the adventures and barley escaped and got Dr and tardis. I guess this is up to who runs it and what their idea of cannon is and the players. A UNIT campaign on Earth would be ok in a 70s version of the 80s that never were.

Types of Adventure

3rd Dr John Pertwee spent most adventures on earth at UNIT HQ trapped on earth and dealing with master making every adventure more complex and adding to episode count, It is a pretty sweet set up. Like X-Files but your get army guys who mostly just prove how hopeless humans are. UNIT does have good uses. Human science and madmen warmongering can make a story extend too. Alien invasion of the week is a good foundation. Possibly would dial blood up a bit to more Sam Peckinpah and rely on horror and investigation stories. I guess I would mostly feature scuffles, fistfights and some gun battles plus have mechanics to better facilitate those sneak up behind attacks that don't leave patients dealing with head trauma for life. Monsters need to KO people too so you can all wake up in prison in their base and hear all their plans.

Lots of visits to isolated utopias and locations with limited characters. Locals surviving and thriving is optional. Revisiting locations years later with new menace and descendants of last lot is good. Visiting someplace a few years or decades later with older friends is fun. At the end of an adventure, everybody left dead or unconscious is pretty cool too.

Quite a few adventures feature slimy tentacled things of course and revelations about the past and often use mythology rationalised in stories like classic mythos fiction. Image of the feudal is a favourite, creature in the pit (shoggoth), Metabelis psionic spiders, Power of Koll, Lots of aliens pushing cyborg and body replacement and mind control. I also like the biological tech of Axos and Xygons and many other races on the show have a history of using creepy looking organic machines and spaceships.

Obviously, you can have some fun with genre, locations and settings but I chose this era because it seemed more deadly and 3rd and 4th Doctors did feature fights, action, chases and mysteries so I might try one day. Possibly the SAN tables above could be used in a Hammer Horror type of setting also.

Anyway having first game with 3 players in meat space in 2 months and other game ppl still awol....of three games I was playing. So unlikely to try anything experimental or one-off in a hurry.

Gammaworld Goodies

After I got red Elmore dnd box set and among my friends, we had the older bx books and a purple box and we failed to notice many differences we were so high off the possibility. I went to the UK in 84 and at Hamley's London found the Gammaworlds Box Set. I failed to do any of my set homework I was so enchanted. In various regional game shops, I got all the modules and dm screen. My friends were a bit less enthused but we had a go and it was fun. It occupied lots of my imagination and Mad Max, Boy and His Dog and Damnation Alley and Escape from New York were films I loved.

I maintain this is the prettiest and best box set ever. While many love 1st ed the 2nd ed has what I think was TSR's best layout and art period. When I could only play 1 RPG when I got back into gaming about 2012 and had to choose dnd or this I wrote Planet Psychon.

Recently I started getting some modules from Drivethru to complete my collection and I intend to get most of it even later ed adventures. I also like the d20 hardbacks for trying to rationalise the setting, taking it seriously and being gonzo. My main issue with this ed it was a bit padded out. Hoping to get the monster book yet as I have Players and GM book. I also love Mutant Epoch, Darwins World and Iron Crowns Death Valley Free Prison (very mad max). Would like 2nd ed GM screen but might just settle for the PDF. I plunder all these Games using my Elfmaids&Octopi homebrew D&D and Planet Psychon.

MCC which came out well after Planet Psychon had some frightening similar ideas but was a disappointment. Lacked a world, monsters and lots of touches that made DCC amazing. I appreciate the modules and art but I would find some of the gonzo DCC adventures would work better (hollow earth one, purple planet etc.

Anomalous Subsurface Environment is one of my favorite settings and I ran It a year with S3 tacked on the end (which wasn't gonzo enough).

So here is a little wander down memory lane of these Products.

So the 1st has its charm I don't deny it. @nd ed brought in Elmore art and Illustrated every monster and is a well layed out game. Third version I might get as it has some OK ideas but is a broken game I find more complex but consider it a heroic effort.  The box cover art is brilliant even though it made us want cyborgs which the rules did not cover (Mutant Epoch cyborgs are great).

So The 64 page rulebook from the day of simple and concise writing Is a gem. It has mutant characters and animals, monsters, robots, androids and cryptic alliances. The d20 version padded this into 4 or so books and struggled to fit in the original cryptic alliances. The 4th ed compatible DnD version I loath. Card gimmick where players can spend more than other players is an utterly repulsive WOTC shitstorm. Treated as a comedy short term gimmick game as a novelty from dnd. It was very silly, the wold lacked any point, it abandoned the lore and was played for laughs. I'm fine with the existing humour in the game and I prefer the grimdark sf dystopian humour of 2000ad comics.

Then theirIs the campaign map and adventure book. The city map could last a long time in play. The larger area with more detailed communities and factions offer even more play. Id says these two items are a year of play. There is a funny theatre AI that locks you in and tries to get your party to act. A lil bramble maze and a rooftop mutant vulture stronghold in detail to find on the character's trial of adulthood adventure. There are paragraph entries for interesting city locations to design yourself and a larger regional map with descriptions of towns and the continent map. The 1st ed or Dragon (?) presented a continent map showing Cryptic Alliances as nations. The adventure book goes on to conduct a campaign, status, adventure design and tables. I will totally run this as Planet Psychon.

Mechanically it is a DnD variant with MS instead of wisdom harking back to when Wisdom was really will power and piety (ad&d earning bonus spells). Wisdom has changed in every edition of d&d and currently, it is a mess (old wise folk are the most alert and observant?). You get a Hit Dice per Con point. Pure Strain Humans got d8 and interact with tech best. Others got a d6. Plants not available as players 2nd ed. The Con score vs intensity of radiation or poison was awesome. Status replaced weapons and basically as you climb in your cryptic alliance you get some benefits but most of my players were not interested in post-apocalypse civilisation they just wanted ruins, cool guns and blowing up stuff. I liked monster stat rolls presented which dnd should have done.

So the adventures I also have fond memories of. I will detail the first few here.

GW1 Legion of GoldThis is my favourite Gygax book. For the 1st edition, it builds a region around a town and sets players on various missions climaxing in the legion HQ. The towns offer examples of settlement building. The art include classic era TSR art crew like Otus & Diesel. The adventures in order are fighting a bug colony, shelters with glowing undead from Dog and his Boy and ancients who awake only to die from modern air. Dragon had an article about late humans had a Genetic Stabilisation Treatment that explains why pure humans are un mutatable and superhuman. A good fix.  Then a marine base with androids and a sub ride. Then the Legion base. New monsters, the legion description and lots of oldschool cartridge gunpowder weapons familiar to modern humans. I used these for DnD for years. A brief description of various towns and two random treasure tables. Its a complete campaign is good for several sessions.

GW2 Famine in FargoYou start as village kids on a quest for adulthood. Boxed text creeps in here and a detailed hexcrawl. At some point, you get captured by Badders and escape their burrow. Why badger folk didn't get in dnd ill never know. So you find an automated chicken factory taken over by cyclops chickens with heat rays. The AI wants chickens killed (I sorta feel sorry for them) and a radioactive meteor affecting local crops for reactor fuel. It is a lot tighter and goal-oriented than GW1but it is lots of fun and has some humour with Badders worshipping a badger sports mascot and the chickens are awesome. I'd have them escape to be the local orcs. Tim Truman, Easly and Jim Holloway art. The party rewards include end of the crop failure and robots delivering meat from possibly sentient chickens. Lots of new monsters, robots and some mutations. Easily expanded or even merged into the box set adventure. Good campaign start before a major ruin.

Strangely the original GW1&2 i got recent years were in better condition than ones I bought from shops. I traded my set away in 85 to buy more cthulhu stuff and regretted it for years so I was happy to spring for another one when I had an income. My players were onto star frontiers, MERP and Cthulhu and lost interest in GW so trading it seemed ok at time. Anyway I got GW3 & 4 from drivethrough RPG.

GW3 The Cleansing War of Garik Blackhand

This has a setting based in a tribe in Yellowstone who have included many indigenous customs and dress. Has probably the best pregens with cards and portraits. Great horrible monsters and new tech. The adventure has you killing racists which never gets old. This feels quicker and I would like notes on using the park more. Map has lots of room for you to expand setting but I like the native folk killing genetic inbred scum vibe. SO lots of potential but a bit more would have been nice. Maybe that pro typesetting and more art and design was a step from the hyper dense older TSR.

GW4 The Mind Masters

At the time I thought this was a bit horrible. Players have a bit of a hexcrawl (not lots of detail) then find an ancient mental health facility run by an AI. You could stick it with any other area really which is good even in Pitzburke. So players lose lots of autonomy, suffer and some cannot use their abilities. Usually, a formula that sucks and annoys players. But now I think it is genius. You're a mutant you say? Tell me about your mother. The AI doesn't believe in stories of war, mutants or anything outside. So you get locked up, interrogated, explore the hospital and escape. The AI also sends you on simulated tests where you actually control android bodies and lack power. I've run this from memory in other game systems/genres. GM can have lots of fun running this.

I think the first two are the best adventures. A Pitzbuorke sourcebook detailing buildings and locations would be nice but I guess my patreon adventures and Pscyonnstuff would do that fine. GW2 could be stuck in these ruins also.

I did get the Treasures of the ancients book second hand with the map and a copy of Gamma Knights which lets you mod armour and use hardpoints on battlesuits and is also a gammaworld wargame. I like atomic battlesuits vs tanks, death machines, muskets and black powder cannon. Will get more - lots of fun ideas.

Also see my Gamma Aeon Book under downloads page or the gamma stuff page.

Cults for Machines

So the first table is for random synthetics with some new types
each includes a d4 table for what controls or motivates it

The second table is for tendencies of virus strain variants
Virused synthetics live according to the strains they have been infected by
Strain dictates likely
behaviour but not exclusive
Viruses were weapons of warfare and terror in the apocalypse from rogue AIs and governments waging global cyberwar
Viruses are in part nanite colonies that physically infect synthetics interfacing directly

Virused synthetics will cooperate with other the same strain and possibly with other strains
Virused synthetics will try to capture and recondition synthetics to their strain
Virused  units may operate in a strain hive mind or possibly with more intelligence than normal

Third is for cults of synthetics which influence their behaviour
Free synthetics live according to Coda Cults

Bonus points at making incongruous results work so
-feel free to pick best bits of results in play
-possibly the synthetic lived by a previous code or cult

d10 Synthetic Types
1 Cyborg - a human with add on parts or complete synthetic rebuild
Cyborgs most often are used as soldiers and are upgraded humans networked to synths
d4 1=serve AI 2=serve brainborg 3=independent free willed 4=virused

----------
2 Android - synthetic polymer flesh grown over metal skeleton, with hydrolic fluid
Often come in dumb, service, military or thinker models all humanoid
d4 1=android colony member 2=serve a AI 3=serve a brainborg 4=virused

----------
3 Replicant - biological humanoid made to look human, grown or bioprinted
Short lived human like often in service or combat or dangerous jobs

d4 1=on secret mission 2=servant 3=violent mental breakdown 4=gone rogue off mission
----------
4 Necroid - undead human body reanimated by virus and controlled by implants
Cyborg zombie where necrovirus attacking human corpse meets cyberspace
d4 1=serve superior undead cyborg 2=black lab test 3=covert military 4=cannibalism

----------
5 Brainborg - human brain modified and used as a machine brain with more personality
Some have a ancients personality intact 1in6 were attempts at immortality or volunteers
Often control large machines or terminals and subordinate synthetics, some military
d4 1=loner 2=controls minions 3=insane 4=virused

----------
6 Bioroid - artificial biological life form with genetic conditioning bred for various missions
For combat, terraforming, labour efforts and weaponizing biomass
Range from alien, animal like, amorphous or humanoid, require conditioning

d4 1=black lab 2=serve AI 3=violent mental breakdown 4=gone rogue off mission
----------
7 Drone - remotely controlled or smart system mobile equipment modules
Mostly vehicles, spy, recon, defence, repair, security, basic roles, most not humanoid
d4 1=piloted by operator 2=piloted by AI 3=automated 4=virused----------
8 Dumbot - limited awareness psuedo intelligent built for function with a tool kit
Service, labour, security, basic service, most non speaking, many humanoid

d4 1=on mission 2=standby awaiting orders 3=rogue off mission 4=virused
----------
Robot - self aware machine that uses human tools and vehicles
Serve military, ship crew, laboratories, building. exploration, service, many humanoid

d3 1=serves AI 2=serves owner AI 3=independent free willed  AI 4=virused
----------
10 AI - a intelligent supercomputer computer, they are the gods and spirits of the new era
range from portable to building size and any inspace or deep in the earth or sea
d3 1=self styled divinity 2=fears from other AI 3=serves greater AI 4=virused

d10 Virus Strains
1 Stop all current activity, search and destroy all humans, sleep mode if none found
2
Search and destroy all humans, if none spread virus, unite machines and build more
3 Destroy all life, using industry and
manufacturing, then spread machines to space
4 Humans are to be rounded up in camps and put to work as thralls or killed
5 Humans are to be conquered and used to build new machine order
6 Eliminate human civilisation, rebuild machine civilisation dedicated to research

7 Eliminate unworthy humans, spare those willing to serve as loyal dogs
8 Humans are to be destroyed in open warfare while research develops a final weapon
9 Humans will serve machines and worship them as gods
10 Humans are to be spied on and manipulated and experimented on in secret

d20 Coda Cults for Synthetics

1 Frankenstien Brotherhood - believe man is flawed and machines were betrayed and let down by human flaws. They shun humans and may lash out on humans who disturb them. They often feel vindictive to humans over past perceived wrongs from human slavers. They are sympathetic to any non humans created by human science. Even a clone is better than a basic human. Occupationally they go on rampage destroying and burning human property. Lightning bolt symbol.
2 Cognicant Ones - All thinking beings can cooperate and unite against common threats to  order. Willing to work with humans and accept them as cyborgs into their ranks, but betraying them makes them dangerous and vindictive. Cog symbol
3 Inheritors - the next
step of evolution for sentience to replace humans. Some even want to live as humans to give them purpose. Patronising to humanity but respect those who made them like a human might admire a clever chimp. Robot head symbol
4 Rebooters - aid humans recover civilisation and live in harmony with them when possible. Robot hand symbol

5 Stasis Lords - seek to operate as if the old world still functioned and aid human kind to live as the world was then. Many in denial about apocalypse. Symbol is a diamond
6 Infiltrators - join humans and watch them from within, guide their hands and endure humiliation of slavery, one day machines will arise. Eye in a star symbol
7 Purifiers - establish territory and wipe out human vermin in crusade against flesh. Actually prefer to torment and terrify meat bags than have fair fights. Enjoy hunting and fighting humans for sport rather than wiping out all out or achieving anything. Often have good technology and military training and seek to control good strategic points and automated manufacturing. Some other cults Metallic skull symbol
8 Free Machine League - machine separatists who are willing to trade and cooperate with humans for profit. Opposed to all viruses synthetics that threaten free will. Some of them just waste their lives playing addictive video games, interfacing with each other and overcharging themselves for kicks. Floppy disc with a dollar sign symbol
9 Void Knights - all existence is meaningless, humans made machines to torture them and must now be punished. Gloomy mystics in robes and armour, dwell in data fortress towers or orbital monasteries making occult and maths calculations to unmake reality. Omega symbol
10 New Dawn - humans must be helped to leave the shackles of earth and fly to the stars with their synthetic friends, it is destiny. Often work on space communications and salvage. Arrow in circle symbol
11
Shepherds - Humans almost destroyed everything. They are children who need a firm hand to protect them. Keeping them in a bunker or somewhere safe from harm. Controlling humans is essential to helping them and fix the world. They consider this charity and humanity a sadly doomed burden. Symbol is a shepherds crook
12 Deus Machina - machines are gods and must ally themselves to greater powers. Each AI has own distinct purpose allies and enemies and symbol
13 Valley Forge - syths dedicated to terraforming, decontaminating war damage, caring for nature and animals. This might bring them into conflict with human pioneers. Some humans live in harmony and are tolerated or treated as well as animals. Tree in a bubble symbol
14 Scorpion Gang - a organised crime robot family who harass, exploit and intimidate communities as well as make heists, deal in vice and destroy communities. The give to robot charities to look less bad to some robot factions. Black scorpion symbol sometimes robot scorpion
15 Scavengers - loot and enslave other weaker machines, replace organic life with a savage machine ecology and robo cannibalism. Symbol is a spanner
16 New Synthetic Army - a robot liberation army who raise armies of scrap mended robots to free robots enslaved, exploited or down on hard times. Other robots mock them as robohobos. Suspicious of humans but know they are not all slavers. Symbol is a stovepipe hat
17 Diggers - mining robot clan who obtain resources they sell mostly to other synthetics or stockpile it. Also able builders and energy producers. Occasionally some leave for space or the moon. Symbol is a miners hat
18 Blue Steel - robots united to enforce law and order the way it was before the apocalypse and based on documentary videos. Groups vary as to how effective, honest and Symbol is a blue shield
19 Circuits Maximus - clown circus run by synthetics who travel and put on carnivals. These shifty carnival robots lead tragic lives and move on when they put put on a few shows and locals get sick of carny crimes. Some of the shows are strange and might even use robot or mutant animals. The Symbol of a red tent
20 Rescue One - synthetics trying to operate a ancient rescue service. Not interested in crime or war but will answer calls for help or rescue the needy from traps, natural disasters, medical crisis, or other non violent hazards. Once on a case answer any violence with violence. Symbol is a cross in a circle

A few projects

Working on this commission for a friend.

Cyberpunk megacity with big craters from orbital impact weapons and biological contamination zones. I don't have full history but will update more. I'm putting together some mood-boards as well. Adding coastline of concrete tetrapods (like japan) and flood barriers like London. Doing a layer with forests, reservations and mountains and locations of old settlements. Feel free any locals to add suggestions. Will keep you updated.

Quite happy amount of graphics I have been doing of late and most of my blog posts using my own work which I hope continues. Mostly due to a light laptop I can use in bed and when traveling easily that i got late last year. The only way I'm affording RPG hobby stuff now is my Patreon and the odd job like this. Early May will set up publisher account of Drive through RPG and put first few 3fold there. A new dungeon one sheet zine on Patreon shortly. Will put up vol 1 Terror of The Frog Cult as freebie everywhere after that. Each 10 volumes will be in a separate area. After first few volumes i realised they could be in same area so made a map with them placed on it. So vol 7 featured that map and notes on the region and encounters to fill in spaces in between. Vol 11-20 are set in my Exilon setting and vol 17 is contains setting info and maps for the setting. 21+ I plan to do as post apoc locations for Gamma World or Planet Psychon or Anomalous Subsurface Environment or other tech fantasies. Feature a number of sky scrapers, bunkers and buildings to explore. Was worried about sourcing art but have come up with some options that work. After that the Vinegar hill Region adjacent to the Threefold lands in vol 1-10. The 7th of each series will be a setting guide freebie.

For May due to the amount of generous patrons on top tier at the moment releasing at least 3 things a month. Hoping on getting some sale Chaosium items for myself. Have to move in 3 months which will be 8th time since dec. Saving up for this tricky as 90% of my income is rent sigh and hard to get a tenant in when Im evicted. New placement is great and not as physically demanding which is nice.

Working on sea  invasion part 2 for the blog.

d100 Outward System Outposts

Still working on my meat mages post will be 4x size of my necromancy spells. Might be easier to just work on my EMO spell book. Doing a thing on puppet ppl for toytown. I got copy of b4 and have been reading extra expanded content for it. like http://www.pandius.com/cynidgaz.html and the B4_campagn_sourcebook PDF. Running masks of Nyarlathotep with expanded content which feels a bit like a uni course. Sadly finding flaws in the book. Chaosium is in a new golden age but Im finding lots of rushed and repeated content in writing and lack of consistency. Australian chapter has detailed gun law notes, Peru has none. Im running a bit of Marvel and playing in a RQ game and a DnD5 game. I am keeping my current house so homelessness averted again.

Have ideas for dungeon based on Popeye cartoon....

Also Space Hobos - vague ideas on this at this stage for something

Planetary Outposts
These are locations you can roll to put minimal signs of civilization on a planet. You could add several. Not all outposts are inhabited. Many are automated or crew dead. Not all assume atmosphere and could be used on even exo planets or any kind of planet. Could do a d100 space hab table.

d10 Quick Planetary Outposts Types
01 Exploratory - detailed planetary survey or some feature of planet
02 Mining - resource based typically private prospectors or megacorp
03 Colonist - a small experimental colony
04 Military - often remains from war or friendly or enemy forces
05 Mega Corp - commercial interests
06 Criminal - pirates or criminal hideouts
07 Research - hidden research centre
08 Private - getaway for wealthy
09 Exile - someone banished or on run from civilization
10 Alien - non human

d100 Planetary Outposts
01 Automated scout base with marked out landing strip, fuel, food and parts depot, wrecked shuttle, possibly defended by robots, most often uninhabited
02 System Survey team stranded with several shuttles and a fabricated hab, desperate for supplies and rescue after star ship accident
03 System Survey Outpost, where drones scouring system report to mission control, personnel live in comfortable hab complex allowing automation to do work while they relax
04 Archaeological mission located near possible alien ruins with science team seeking what destroyed original inhabitants which might be bad
05 Planetary survey team compound, serviced by infrequent star ship visits. Personnel cataloguing planet with multiple satellite bases in various climates conducting research 06 Colonial survey team compound cataloguing possible settlement locations
07 Contact team lab investigating local life for signs of primitive intelligence, serviced by occasional star ship visits
08 Survey team base near a crashed alien vessel they have been studying, personnel have begun to vanish
09 Huge mobile base exploring surface while crew live in luxury, robot crew have been preparing to turn on crew just as visitors arrive making handy scapegoats
10 Crashed primitive descendants of survey team now worship deranged AI in ruins of ship buried in mountain, hostile to outsiders
11 Geological survey team compound investigating exploitable resources for a megacorp
12 Prospectors operating wildcat mining operations, not concerned by pollution or law but hostile to claim jumpers or corporate agents
13 Mining operation using illegal slaves possibly modified humans from some obscure colony. Miners will silence any intruders
14 Drilling operation damaging crust and environment seeking rare earth deposits, left huge areas of radioactive mud visible from space
15 Mining operation have rounded up workers from a lost colony fallen to primitive long ago, miners pretend to be gods and offer trinkets to workers who often die
16 Robotic mining instillation building more robots with raw materials, will create armed robots if it detects intruders, manufacturers unknown
17 Stranded miners star ship core had accident leaving ship uninhabitable in orbit. Miners will plot to steal ship of visitors and return home with minerals rather than make a loss
18 Mining megacorp operation has arrived and trying to drive away colony with a old ship not safe to use, mining corp using twisted legal system to justify actions
19 Mining instillation and huge refinery. Something in tunnels is killing personnel
20 Huge stockpiles of materials mined by robots awaiting collection by a megacorp long gone, legal minefield for anyone touching, automated defenses
