Dark Island Reskin 3: Vampire Lair
Continuing reskins for Dark Island, a draconic fortress on a Island one capitol of a pocket underland empire.
So some periods the Island is abandoned and undead take over making it a source of evil blocking trade and driving away life from the lake.

If the undead win and make a morale roll the will bring their live victims to the vampire. If they fail they will eat the victims.
Lagoon Beach
Rotting corpses, bones and coffins are on the beach with several wrecked boats and a leaky funeral barge. The barge brought the vampire here and it has trouble leaving and crossig water. Some of the rotting corpses are 2d6 zombies, it takes a round for them to get up and they are slow and easy to escape.
Cave Houses
Ruined cave cottages are now strewn in garbage with 50% chance of a d4 zombies. With a turn searching you can find a d4 house hold pots, knives or tools with a 1in4 chance of finding 3d6 silver coins
Smithy
Ruined smithy here with a zombie standing by the bellows and a wight guarding the remains of iron ingots (60 ingots 10gp 1lb each) and a collection of dusty and rusted but reparable d6 suits of armour and two dozen hand weapons
Great Council Hall
Once ornate council hall is now dusty ruin with a huge table covered in dust and cobwebs with a dozen skeletons seated in tattered robes, and one with a spiked crown. They arise to fight but the crowned one has 6HD
Temple Cave
Temple has been vandalized and has unholy symbols painted in blood and necromancer runes, several statues have been toppled
Priest Cave
An evil priest who came to serve the vampire died here of starvation and arose as a wraith. A squat evil idol of Prince Orcus is here with 3000sp offerings and a +1 mace and 4 unholy water potions before it
Priest Library
Dusty and slightly mouldy, a dozen volumes of prayers to Orcus, guide to operating a undead cult in secret and guides for novice and senior priests
Queen Roost
One this was the Dragon Queens nest now it has been emptied and a 8 foot pet is left with a dozen zombies inside clambering to escape if they detect living human flesh. More than a dozen lets extra climb over the others to escape. Smashed skeletons are on the floor, the vampire throws almost dead victims in here to be destroyed to prevent vampires arising
Queens Court
Two undead rotting cave lobsters guard here and will begin clacking their pincers to alert the vampire. A great throne is here and tattered dragon tapestries cover the walls
Study
The vampires spell books, journals and other books stolen from visitors are here including books on religion, demonology and some novels. Some are written in dwarf, gnome and dark elf. There are forty volumes in all but the iron bound locked spellbook is cursed also, inflicting a rotting disease on whoever reads it and fails a save. A gilded lantern worth 100gp is in here
Dining Room
This once fine dining room has dust and cobwebs but the table is clean and has manacles affixed to strap victims for the vampire down. Several sets of cuffs allow for gnome to man size victims. 1in6 chance there is a prisoner here on deaths door
Bedroom
The once great four poster bed has the mattress removed and three coffins are here. These are fore the lesser vampire servants. One a female Sorphryn is in in a deep coma recovering from a bad encounter and easily dispatched. One other male consort, Canantulas will arise if disturbed by sounds of fighting from the court or other adjacent rooms. The third coffin has 3000gp, 10000sp and three potions of healing.The main vampire Christopasia has her coffin concealed under the bed. She will allow her lesser vampires and guards to die before bothering to arise and she hopes to turn some of her intruders into replacements.
Egg Room
Dragon eggs were once here now it is dusty with just 3d6gp worth of broken eggshells
Consort Dragon Nest
Great dusty dragon nest with a huge skeleton. 16742cp are scattered on floor which nobody in the past was bothered to collect
Servants Cave
8 zombie gnome butlers are here with trays in hand
South Dragon Nest
A dozen corpses hang from the roof, naked with spigots inserted into their necks and evidence they were healed. Under them the dragons pit was full of garbage
North Dragon Nest
A great heap of garbage being picked over by 6 ghouls
Slave Pits
Garbage and bone strewn mess is here but a single gnome is here with a ring of invisibility to undead who came for treasure and had her boat stolen. Talia wants help escaping and will even offer her ring after the boat with her on board leaves. She will negotiate and also has a 400gp gem and 200sp. She has a gold 45gp ring too she might try and cheat on the deal with
Marine Cave
A giant snapping lives in the pool and likes to snatch zombies or anyone to eat
Bathing Cave
The dragons former bathing pool now unused
Christopasia wants to use the invaders boat to send a lesser vampire servant away to find a better lair (six have gone and never returned). While travelling over the water vampires are helpless in their coffins requiring servants. In bat form she has explored the cavern roof but their are some creatures there that try to eat her like cave fishers. She cant get her treasure away in bat form. In a worst case she might retreat in bat form and has a spare coffin on top of the island rock spires which are a dificult climb. She hates the island and is stranded and mostly hungry and bored. New slaves and food are her main interest.
Christopasia will torment victims explaining their fate as food, slaves or lovers if attractive enough (gender doesn't matter only CHA of 16+). She has a intelligent LE +2 sword that detects undead within 3" and a amulet of non detection
Other communities in the cave lake region might offer a reward for cleaning out the cave. It is possible some gnomes long to return to restore the island for the Dragon Queens return. Possibly a captured party could be rescued by the dragon and gnome forces

d100 Strange Wizard Missions
Been reading Chaosium Book of Eibon as ive gone full mythos retard again and feeling troped out of fantasy. Lin Carter and Clark Ashton Smith wizards are not DnD wizards. They are nasty and do things man (and I suppose women) were not meant to know. I can imagine a party of new apprentices and other adventurers being sent on these. Of course you might regret handing over the quest object. These could be plans for evil wizards for adventurers to fail. Dodgy wizards might not reveal real nature of quest. Id recommend the wizard master be one of the best in the world around 20th level. This would make a good campaign. Possibly if players became too competent they might become a threat. Moral troubles and personal risk should be com. Part of new setting Im developing.

Murder Hobos & The Power Of Friendship
So had a quick game of Lamentations/ BX mash up at game shop. Was intended for noobs but several bailed and two of my fave vet players came plus Katie. She has started gaming but has had a interest in sword fighting and listened to me argue with story gamers for years at mid week geek. She is also mostly blind and very sharp. So I rolled up a quick dungeon using my Redbrick draft. I also had idea for my sentient dungeons to have abilities they can call on based on their levels per day but more on that later.
So I rolled Up This
-humanoid Breeders Dungeon (decided on kobold as 1st Lv)
-Serpent man wizard boss named Seestak LE the kobolds self titled god
-Ragon the cleric with his goatmen guards trying to resurrect a ancient evil said to be hidden in the cave plus several zombies (using my 1st Lv problematic zombie spell)
-Dungeon Spirit will use ESP to make voices of peoples loved ones
-Rumours that local area was dependant on dungeon
-The entry had statues of two kobold crowned warriors before a archway
-Carved from black basalt and smelled of rotten food
-Was crawling in bugs and vermin
-intersections lit by dim green magic light
The Players Rolled up characters
-Jimmy the Thief sent by guild to stop chep kobold labour destroying economy and guild skill base from kobold slave trade with his pet kobold torchbearer slave and Lifto the baggage handler whos speciaty is loot hauling and running away
-Sleazy Nick the Priest of Baccus sent to recover a recipe for a male potency formula so the high priest could perform functions at the cult woodland drunken orgies who has a kobold torch bearer
-Fred the warrior a mercenary who woke up one day with tatoo of the dungeon door on his chest whos charisma is 8 and has never had a true friend
Party met in pub of town where everyone using kobold slaves for dirty jobs. The local industry was booming from kobold slave trade and the kobold breeding dungeon was well known and had a sign pointing to it. The shop sold kobold traps and manacles and other kobold slave items. The peasants no longer felt on the bottom and were getting rich and lazy at kobold expense. Of late kobold trappers had disappeared.
The party met in the pub and the priest was pleased to see the pub offered him discounts and had statuette of his god with a huge erection. They set off to the dungeon and spied a single kobold fishing. Jimmy with his kobold offered it food and were friendly and the kobold Bing explained the evil priest and goatmen had taken part of the dungeon. Talked about their god Seestak and said they should talk to him and plan a meeting. Two days drinking and pick pocketing later and they met Seestak who was a bald wizard with a goatee and green eyeliner and a slight lisp. The made a deal ans Seestak gave them armbands and offered gold to kill the goatmen and priest. They were told head left to find the priest factions lair. Then kill them and send Bing to the tell Seestak when the job done. Seestak referred to people as humans as if not to include himself. The kobolds were impressed by Fred the fighters tattoo but their master was not.
So into the dungeon and past a few kobold guards. Found a garbage room and Jimmy went exploring silently with two kobolds but a carrion crawler surprised him and a kobold paralyzing them. Priest and warrior rushed and killed it with torch bearer kobolds. Found lots of trash and a crawler hole with two corpses in it of kobolds. One was a paralysed kobold warrior and other body tore in half when pulled out and had grubs in it's mouth. Waited for paralysed peers to be able to move and moved on. Thief grabbed the crawlers head and the rescued kobold had worm eggs removed and was grateful and went home to tell of parties good deeds.
Saw kobold guard posts and found dimly lit cavern of the evil cult. Thief sneaked up and found zombie guards, obviously murder hobos and the weasel faced one was from his guild who was sent on a nameless mission just a bit before him. He shanked one and ran. The zombies lumbered slowly after him and the party fired missiles and the priest tried to turn them. Zombies were allowed to close and the warrior finished them with thief who his in a wall depression as zombies passed him.
All this was pretty quiet and they found a temple and some boxes and barrels and a chest. Barrel of paint another of flower plus box of stale bread (kobolds ate). Locked chest had a iron pot with 20lb or fresh mortar. Kobolds tasted the paint noting the high lead content and the mortar. The top of the mortar should have scabbed over and they spread some on wall and watched it dry. It was a magic mortar pot possibly worth a thousand gold. Found white painted altar repurposed from kobold mother god to the Seestak then the new chaos underworld god. A smashed clay statue kobolds said was of Seestak was on floor but they didn't pay attention. Ahead was curtained tunnel where the evil priest and goatmen. They realized by questioning the kobold that there was only 2 goatmen but they were "twice as big as kobolds".
Thief went ahead and saw priest in bed and two black goatmen playing dice. He went up to priest and stabbed him in the chainmail and woke him up with a yell. Goatmen got up and the fighter and cleric charged in. The cleric had blessed himself and protected the fighter in plate with protection from evil. The goatmen went down and the theif fled the angry priest who cast hold person on the party. A kobold and th thief were paralysed. The priest whaked the paralysed thief in the head then was brought down in a hail of blows. The kobolds were quite handy. Priest saved the priest with a healing spell and they rested 12 hours till morning. Kobolds told how Seestak had saved kobolds from slavery by walking among the men and betraying them with a kobold ambush outside town.
Found gold and the priest holy book on betrayal, murder, torture and deceit and his orders to awaken an ancient evil, enthrall the kobolds and take over the region. Priest of Baccus tried to convert the surviving goatman as he had froliced in the woods with some good ones once but it was vile so he dashed out its brains. The priest was ungagged and questioned and demanded party serve him. The party told him they won and he should serve them. He promised to be good and they looked in his unholy book to see his supplication word for word from the chapter on telling vile lies. So they killed him. Convinced the local kobold they were better friends and Freds tats were a sign. The bacchanalian priest gave the kobold some proper wine not the piss kobolds drank and promised all the wine they wanted and freedom. Impressed by the human kindness the kobold admitted their god could shape shift into a snake man and would eat kobold eggs and had seen him swallow a human baby. The kobolds had found him asleep and covered in dust in the sealed library chamber. So they realized the snake was the ancient sleeping evil the cult was seeking.
They sent in kobolds ahead to convince others bu they didn't do so well. The kobold they had saved earlier did do some good. They met as planned their kobolds in a guard junction and the kobolds were tolerant of the helpful humans but had orders not to let them pass. Their allied kobolds attacked first the party joined in and subdued most of them. Except the one a fighter cut in half while holding a fire bomb with a lit fuse that was beyond first aid.
They went to the hatchery and convinced the kobold matriarch to aid them and said they would not eat kobold eggs. She led them to the warrior barracks and they planned to call out the wizard snakke from the library. They called him and he came out looking human as before and the party and 8 kobolds shot him peppering the surprised wizard lizard who resumed his true form on death.
So the party stayed on. The priest brought in the saucy bachinalean kobolds of his cult, taught them wine making and the ways of drunkenness. The thief made a deal with the guild to rent kobold labourers which made their labour not so cheap and kept the class and economic order intact. Fred the fighter was a bit scary to the kobolds (CHA8) but had the tattoos of liberator so they accepted him. Everybody lived happily ever after.
Real murder hobos might have turned on the kobolds too but they made a good income. In my games players often become dungeon bosses. Apparently this is abnormal.

Dungeon Sounds for Redbrick
Your party bickering about rules or a mapping detail or telling some crap story about their lives? Just throw in a few of these and watch paranoia set in. In a self aware magic dungeon, the dungeon spirit might make these just to spook travellers who don't respect the peril they are in. You don't need to resolve these sounds. But possibly you might. Or just blame on ghosts. Some noise travels through drain and air pipes or echo from some distance. Dungeon acoustics might be magical.

Hobo Skull - a Murder Hobo Shanty Town Year 1
Will do several of these showing a murder hobo shanty town grow over several years in a boomtown ecology. Mislabeled one of the encounter tables but will fix.
The beginning
The first thing anyone noticed here was a collection of murder hobo tents and some old drunks.
The next structures started with a grog and food tent and after a year several wooden shacks went up. Master Duran brought in his thieves guild to operate the village shop, the dorms and brought in Doc to be the local healer who had lost his licence in the city. Duran himself moved in i his fancy fortified hut. Half the village are members of his thieves guild.
Encounters
Only a few people were eaten a month mostly one a week from the old owlbear and a few from the wolves. Humanoids started scouting and bandits robbed a few people on the way to town to sell treasure. Things in the local hills became aware of the humans but waited.
Locations
Badger Hill - family of badgers live near here which someone saw when naming it
Newt Hill - someone found a huge newt here once and it was delicious
Camping Ground - where travelling adventurers set up camp, is a bit muddy and filthy now with a few stray dogs, a pig and a goat who help clean up. Cost is 1cp a day to stay here no gruel included
Kitchen Tent - Mrs Molly is the camp cook and mostly cooks beans and pork with bread or gruel for followers. She has several urchins who help her out and Master Duran maims anyone who touches her. She gave some scraps to boblins and they like her now. Gruel is 1cp and a meal with meat is 1cp and a boiled egg is 1gp
Guest House - a large shack with triple bunks and a stove, 1sp a day board including meals
Dorm Cabin - where Duran's gang live. They watch the camp, patrol day and night and send a gang to the local dungeon. They also spy
General Store - Mrs Norman runs the store with frightening marked up goods on food and good grog but old monster weapons and armour are cheap
Master Duran's Fortified house - a nest of comfort in this well made portable house with fine carvings, varnished panels, furs, carpets, silk pillows, fine wine and tapestries. A four poster bed for the master to entertain. Servants have a room and a kitchen where masters meals are cooked. The house is fortified with slits for crossbows to fire from
Doc's Shack - Doc's a healer from the city and brought here by Duran. He accidently killed some patients and lost a court case costing his licence. He is good enough for murder hobos though. Doc drinks too much and once fought off goblins trying to kidnap him for some reason. Duran gave him a helper and bodyguard who keeps him sober at least while adventurers are out in the dungeon
Grog Tent - Talia runs this joint serving rotgut and home brew beer and stout a copper a drink
Into the next stage
Lots of trees were cleared and seasoned to build a future stockade and wall. The creeks were well fed and had freshwater cave cray and albino cave fish in them.
Someone suggested all the cliff caves be investigated. A organised latrine area was dug and camp followers were given the job of looking after it. They also had to drive off the huge snakes and spiders and stray dogs.
Besides a stocked the camping grounds will grow and more craftsmen will arrive. Other trails to nearby dungeons will be made and the local caves will be explored. Monsters will respond with monthly attacks. A sizable dump forms in the original camp area and starts to foul the river.

When adventures arrive in a Xorian market looking all foreign and dim witted, out from the meat flap shanty town tents and dark fleshy pits crawl con men and cultists and wizards keen for a fresh rube. d100 Gangs for cyberpunk or superheroes
Got nice interest from players and some one asked me to run as a alternate game to DnD. I might run a ultimate's style version of the marvel universe and let them them pick a official character from comics. Have run 5 sessions now and has even cut into my blogging time. Had lots of new players which is always nice.
This was for my super hero setting but realized this would work for my cyberpunk/carwars/dark-future BRP setting. I have cyberpunk notes somewhere. This took longer than I planned.
