ELTON DEAN'S NiNESENSE - Bracknell Jazz Festival 1978

I got this audience recording in trade from many years ago and I shared it previously in comments to some other Ninesense recording here. Recently I gave it a listen and found it wholly enjoyable and great preformance, thus I tried some equalisation from original mp3@320. In the end it is improvement I think. Setlist is similiar to 100 Club Concert from 1979. Track 5 (including 11 min of great improv) has significantly clearer sound without audience noises (which are quietly enjoyable during quiet passages earlier) and due to possible speaker entry in the fade out, it can come from some broadcast (possibly) from different concert, but I got it together with this Bracknell recording).

The music herein was already posted by Riccardo in 2010.
But Michael King - producer of the now sadly defunct label - asked for a removal of the links.
The links were removed and the music was released about two years later in 2012 on Reel Recordings.
Already in 2013 the label stopped its production....
King wanted to start a new label called "Jazz in Britain" but sadly he died in 2015.

Engineered by twenty-two year Riccardo Bergerone, from a stage front and centre table position as reserved for him personally by Elton Dean.
Positioned far left stage, beyond the band, thus often distant sounding.
Kudos to Keith Tippett for his understanding and support for the music.

ELTON DEAN'S NINESENSE - Basel, Theaterwerkstatt Stadttheater, 24 Juni 1979

This comes from DIME and I have it for several years. I know some of you have it too. Ninesense are septet here, without Alan Skidmore and Harry Beckett, thus plenty of space for others' soloing. Sound is pretty good, although I was fancy to do a remastering during the years... Strong bass, very clear piano. I was not able to do full playlist, even with the help of some of you. It was also released as bootleg named "Feel", but I never saw it actually, except cover pic on the web.

JULiE DRiSCOLL - 1969 (Polydor 1971)

This remarkable album was reissued on CD third times, but none of it is recently available. Earliest One Way Records version sounded poor, next issue on Disconforme seems fine to me sonically - I prefer it before latest release on Eclectic Disc (I was hoping in another issue on their succesors Esoteric Recordings, but they seems to have different preferences). So here is Disconforme sound with scans of Eclectic Disc booklet w/liner notes by Sid Smith and song lyrics.
Not as much avant jazz, but really experimental songwriting. And first meeting of Julie and Keith Tippett, I can strongly recommend also their latest song based project - Nostalgia 77 Sessions feat. Keith and Julie Tippett on Thru Thougts label.

Produced by George Chkiantz & Julie Tippetts with Giorgio Gomelsky

Recorded at Olympic Studios, London, 1975

CD Air Mail Archive AIRAC-1115 (Japan, 2005)

This gentle and delicate collection is one of a few Julie's works, incorporating both songcraft and jazz / free improvisation. For further exploration in this field, I would like to suggest her appearance on Carla Bley's Tropic Appetites (Watt 1974) and more recent Nostalgia 77 Sessions featuring Keith & Julie Tippett (Tru Thoughts 2oo9). Despite being reissued on cd by Blueprint (1999) and Disconforme (2ooo) labels, Sunset Glow remains unavailable for long years. I believe this album may be a good article for reissue specialists Esoteric Recordings, who is actually going to release first two Keith Tippett Group albums with their usual care about mastering and packaging.

Nicra-Listen, Hear Ogun lp OG 010-1975

Here's an old favourite ,one of the as yet unreissued gems, from the wonderful OGUN catalog , of which really almost everything is worth having.

Most people have probably heard this via mp3's that have circulated around these parts.. and that was initially the reason i hadn't posted it here ..
Having recently ripped this for my self and given it a few spins i thought id share it anyway .. what a marvelous session it is ... two vintage Freebones firing on all cylinders ,stoked by the unique & refined engine room of Tippett, Niebergall and Ntshoko!!
What a pleasure it would be to see this reissued and restored to full sonic glory in remastered CD form!
I Love this record.. but some of the finer textural detail does tend to get a bit lost in a few slightly muddier denser sections where there is a lot happening .. something digital technology is actually good at remedying.
