Richard Davis trio-Feat Joe Beck& Jack Dejohnette- Song for wounded Knee 1973

Richard Davis what can one say!.. his records under his own name are so undervalued.. most of them are out of print...
This is a passionate testament to the trio's heartfelt political activism, something considered corny and passé in todays largely arid musical landscape... evermore relevant though in a world that is arguably geopolitically worse off than it was in 73.
Its a world where bread and circuses take on a whole other dimension, the illusion of personal freedom indistinguishable from and so frequently confused with the sphere of personal consumption.

I've always  loved the more abstract side of Davis's musical sensibility amply displayed here in a set
of glowing largely improvised pieces..on the opening Blues" Song for Wounded knee" , Davis uses the melody to blue Monk.. but the rest is pretty free.. Davis's arco is evident throughout.. some passages on 'America the beautiful "or "Agnewstic"wouldn't be out of place in a chamber piece by Helmut Lachenmann...
staggering.. gorgeous!
enjoy!
ps.. this may have been partially inspired by the great book "Bury my heart at Wounded Knee"which came out around that time

Archie Shepp & Richard Davis - Live in Verona '11 [New links]

Paraphrasing the title of a song by G.Monchur III (that Shepp
has played countless times) we can say: Archie's back!
It seems that after years of weary routine, the "old lion" is
enjoying a second youth, even thanks to the most appropriate
choice of partners.
Great concert, and exiting the stage, Shepp has candidly admitted
that they forgot to play a B-Flat Blues...

Creative Construction Company-vol 2(muse lp 5097)

This is for the people requesting it at the 'nine sisters' blog... many thanks to them for the gems they've shared.
The 2nd part of a magnificent concert recorded at the 'peace church' Washington square N.Y.C. on may 19 1970.
the recording was supervised by Ornette Coleman, not released though until some 6 years later.

for me this(and vol 1) is a significant milestone in being the most fully realised document of what Braxton ,Jenkins and Smith were on about at this early stage of their careers.
much better recorded than the earlier lp's recorded in Paris for Byg, this concert is one of the gems of the AACM collective discography.
so its a real surprise that this hasn't been reissued more widely, and that it remains so little heard.

beautiful ...
hope you enjoy it...
see the comments for both lame and flac links, I'll be posting the flacs only ,for volume 1 later tonight.
mp3's for volume 1 are at 'nine sisters' linked on the front page.

L.D.LEVY AND RICHARD DAVIS- CAULDRON (CORVO RECS, 1979)

heres one im very pleased to be able to share .
i dont know much about this record at all, and cant find anything out, by checking the web.
L.d levy, who plays bass clarinet, flute and alto sax on this is a real mystery.
i suspect its either a pseudonym , or as glmlr has suggested to me ,that he was a student of richard davis.
richard davis is one of the great virtuosi bassists in the music, some one who has played with everyone from, kenny burrell , andrew hill, eric dolphy ,jaki byard, booker ervin, don freidman to stravinsky .
he also played with many in the post free continuum anthony braxton, steve lacy ,david murray , roscoe mitchell, and beyond, making many great albums of his own as a leader, for muse king records(japan) hep, and diw among them.
jd levy sounds very much like eric dolphy at times on this , and on the whole the project is somewhat reminicent of the alan douglas produced "conversations session" by dolphy in duet with richard davis.
richard davis here plays incredibly freely throughout, and he makes levy sound great, in fact rather than mere support or underpinning, davis provides most of the textural interest on this album.
levy's probably playing out of his skin as a result.
this is ripped from vinyl in good nick, i bought it new though slightly water damaged 23 years ago.
please come forward if you have any info whatsoever ,about either l.d. levy or the session as a whole.
this was released on a lable calling itself "corvo" operating out of milwakee, ive looked hard for info but could come up with only one thing, its listed in richard davis discog.
i think this may well be the only album ever released on corvo.
wonderful chamber "free -jazz" links in comments
AGAIN THANKS TO YANN FOR HIS HELP!
