Blood Drive PSA BTS
Jen and I had a great time testing yesterday and shooting today with MASTERSFX for our Massive Blood Drive PSA. Video is coming soon, but here's a little BTS with us, Todd Masters, Jason Ward, Lori Sandnes, and Jennifer Latour.
Please enjoy! And please be brave and donate. The number of donors has steadily been decreasing and someone needs blood every three seconds. Take on the little prick and be a hero to someone.

2012 WiH Massive Blood Drive PSA
Every February, we're inviting you to come along with us to bleed for Women in Horror. It's an incredibly good cause and something that many of us find off putting and terrifying. Time to face our fears and help out those who need us. Time to be fearless like the badass bitches we've come to love and idolize. For more information, please visit the official page for Women In Horror Month.
Great job to everyone who made their own Blood Drives PSAs, got a group together to donate, and hosted their own bloodletting. The only way to replenish our blood banks is through donors and it's really cool of everyone who went out to make a donation!
Every year, to celebrate Women In Horror month, we Twisted Twins encourage the world to donate blood. Why? Cuz you can't think horror without thinking blood, and what better way to celebrate than giving back in a way that honors the fearless horror heroines we all adore.
So, time to be brave and bleed.
Blood.
It's in you to give.

Who is American Mary?
What does a DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK get you - other than the obvious best night of your life? Well, if you were one of the generous and driven folks that stood proudly behind the film and got the word out - it means that we will never forget your kindness. You are the reason why we have the privilege of making our second feature, AMERICAN MARY.
I will never forget the beautiful words and huge honor of making his Top Twenty Horror Films of 2010 list. I am speaking about the wonderful, Scott Ruth - The Horror Examiner. The gentleman will forever be in the twisted twin inner circle with every and all delicious tidbit disclosed. Good thing the guy can keep a secret (and he only has to for one more day!)
"The Twisted Twins have a big treat for everyone! Along with the special appearances from some of the horror genres most memorable ladies, there will also be a special appearance by the actress who will be playing the title role in their upcoming film! That's right, American Mary! We've all been waiting with bated breath to learn more of the details surrounding the second feature film from the Soskas, and at last, the name of the actress tapped to play Mary herself will be revealed!"
That's right. And Scott knows it all! Read and be teased here with the entire yummy piece. And give blood. On a personal note, I've had people I love more than anything suffer and need donated blood. It saves lives. It helps people. If watching horror movies doesn't bug you, then some little needle is nothing. Plus they give you juice AND cookies. It's like a non-stop party - get your party faces on!

Teasing for a Bloody Good Cause
Theron Neel could break into my apartment, steal my PS3, kill my cats and tarantulas, and take my supply of energy drinks and he would still be one of the classiest and kindest gentlemen I have every had the pleasure of knowing. There is a big announcement brewing and Theron is in the know. If you are new to reading our diary, catch up on all the awesome here. Now that the whole class is caught up, let's move along, shall we?
"Those crazy Canadians lovingly known as the Twisted Twins — Jen and Sylvia Soska, on their birth certificates — are releasing another PSA for their favorite cause, the Massive Blood Drive. Their first PSA was so awesome and beloved by all that the sisters decided it had to be topped. And from what they told me, it absolutely has been."
To celebrate Women In Horror Recognition Month, Jen and I host a worldwide Massive Blood Drive. It's simple. Go to your local blood bank and donate any time in February. Host one in your local city or with a group of your friends. You get to do something good for people who are in desperate need. And all the cool kids are doing it (I overheard them talking about it before they proudly pronounced me a 'nerd' and inserted me into a nearby dumpster). Send us your pictures and stories and get presents.
In order to further inspire donation and get over needle phobia, we create a new PSA yearly to get people in the bleeding spirit. This year we collaborated with artists around the world to make a blood drive anthem, give a sense of unity (because that's really what feminism is about), and even announce who will be playing the title role in upcoming AMERICAN MARY with a cameo appearance in the video. Theron, being the good friend that he is, has been sworn to secrecy but has this to offer --
"Now, I can't speak her name, but I can tell you that the woman they've cast is a wonderful actress that you've enjoyed in past horror favorites. Wait, maybe you can guess. That would be fair, right?"
When does it all happen, what is going on, c'mon, Sylv, spill with the details. Well, the closest you will get is here - by reading the whole tantalizing teasing article. Tomorrow, the video. Be still my fangirl heart.

Project Greenman
Introducing Project Greenman. Here's their story...
This video is brought to you by CJ Wallis of FortyFPS Productions. Twisted Twins Productions was there on set to assist this noble cause. What noble cause? This one --
"Start by being aware of issues affecting our environment and what you personally can do to make a difference. Now imagine what an informed and organized group could accomplish! Discover the art and science of gardening as you embark on an awesome lifetime adventure.
Project Greenman will allow you to follow a tiny seed through its life cycle. Planting seeds and growing plants represent the continuation of life; a rebirth of our world and promise for tomorrow. We want you to be part of this future. When you become an "Agent for Change" you will have the chance to assist other members fulfilling a commitment to rejuvenate our Earth. Plant a tree, share seeds and draw public attention to what we're doing right and where we're going wrong. You will have pride in knowing you are part of an organization committed to the betterment of our planet. Demonstrate compassion towards others and offer assistance whenever possible."
I remember on Earth Day as a kid in school, we went to this huge site where there was a bunch of us with bags and bags of seedlings to plant. It was really fun and I got that 'Wo, I'm helping make the world a better place' feeling. You hear a lot about environmental issues and the problem sometimes seems so overwhelming that you don't know how to start. Education for young people, heck, us older fucks too, is the best way to introduce people to greener thinking. Project Greenman is one of those initiatives that gets you thinking, starting just with a small seed.

Hear ye, Hear ye - Tis Twisted Twins Week!
No, we haven't gone narcissistically insane. This is a proud proclamation made by our friend, Theron Neel, of Slammed & Damned. Starting July 12th, Theron took an in depth look not only at 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' but all of our other projects, as well as a review of the film and a very fun interview with Jen and I. He says it best himself.
"Welcome to a very special week here at Slammed & Damned. In honor of Jen and Sylvia Soska, those kickass Canadian twins responsible for the recent grindhouse film phenomenon known as Dead Hooker in a Trunk, I hereby declare this to be Twisted Twins Week. Over the next few days, we’re going to be taking an in-depth look at Jen and Sylv’s work. On Wednesday, I’ll be reviewing the new, final cut of Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and on Friday, I’ll have an exhaustive interview with these two vixens from Vancouver. But today, I want to take a look at three short films the Soskas made before their Dead Hooker came to light."
There are been shorts and PSAs that we have worked on. Theron has taken an in depth look at these projects in the first part of his three-part article.
Next, Theron (who has seen the final cut of Hooker, and its previous cut - at the DOA BloodBath Film Fest) goes into a lock, stock, and barrel review of the final cut. He has plenty of lovely things to say that would make even a deceased prostitute blush.
"Over the years, Canada has produced some of the most interesting voices in horror. Bob Clark, David Cronenberg and John Fawcett are just some of the directors to emerge from the Great White North with singular voices and cool films. And with a forceful little flick called Dead Hooker in a Trunk, Vancouver-based filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska have pretty much grabbed the indie horror film community by the collar and demanded admission to this boys club. Word to the wise: If I were you, I wouldn’t argue with them. I’ve seen what they can do.
I first saw Dead Hooker in a Trunk a few months ago at a horror film fest. I’d never heard of the movie or its makers, but when I saw that title, I knew it was the one film I had to see that day.
As we sat in the darkened theater and this steamroller of a film plowed over the audience, my companions and I were overwhelmed by the action onscreen. The auditorium filled with gasps and nervous giggles from people that kept peeking at each other with wide-eyed looks that said, “Did they just do that?” When the movie ended, there was a slight pause while everyone oriented themselves, then the room filled with raucous applause. I left the theater knowing I’d just seen something that was as much a statement of purpose as it was an entertainment."
Okay, now go read everything he says in his article and get re-excited about the film! It's reviews like this that reignite one's excitement in film making. I'm very proud to be a part of something that gets people to talking this way. It's a great review for those of you who haven't yet had the chance to see the film or if you are trying to describe it to your friends.
Lastly, comes the interview we had with Theron. 'But, Sylvia' you say, 'I've read your interviews before and you always yap about the same shit. I feel I already know you and Jen well.' To that I say, 'No, I don't!' (defensively) But in all truth, we do talk about some personal stuff that we haven't before so I think you're getting too smart for yourself and should just read the fucking interview already. Here's the juicy intro.
"The Canadian filmmaking team Jen and Sylvia Soska are a pair of identical twins who have made one of the most talked about independent movies of the year. The tale of four people with a cool car and truly terrible luck, Dead Hooker in a Trunk is a bloody, brutal and often funny flick that takes more twists and turns than a snake on hot pavement. With little more than a provocative title and a handful of friends, these two scrappy young ladies went on to write, direct and star in one of the most impressive feature film debuts in recent memory. Recently, during a rare break, the Soskas sat down with Slammed & Damned for a talk about lighthearted violence, creating things you might not expect and, of course, the movie they lovingly refer to as “our Hooker.”"
Mad, crazy, high-fiving, fist-bumping props to our man, Theron Neel, not only for his phenomenal articles, but also for seeing the words 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' and thinking it was his kind of film. A little hooker can go quite far, but it can only travel the world with support and spreading the word like Theron did. Respect, sir, respect.
