Calling All Fucking Cool Flicks to Las Vegas - It's Pollygrind Time!!

You can't think hookers without thinking Las Vegas. Well, you can but you would be lying to yourself. DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK made her fabulous Las Vegas premiere thanks to the wonderful people at the Pollygrind Film Festival who always supports the different, indie, and are fucking rad.

Now you and your flick can hit up in sin city with style as Pollygrind entries are wide open for submission. I am exceptionally proud of that last sentence.

POLLYGRIND 2012 - Call For Entries Video from theatre7 lv.com on Vimeo.

"PollyGrind 2012 promo featuring Jenny Hendrix, Monster Zero, Creepersin, The Bunny Game, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, Slime City Massacre, zombies, demons, angels and more! The PollyGrind Film Festival, which takes place every October in Las Vegas, has been called "the key festival for indie cult filmmakers to land distribution deals." The festival considers any and all independently produced works that are slightly off kilter, innovative, stylistic, edgy, bloody, sexy or cool. Top winners from the past include Slime City Massacre, Dead Hooker in a Trunk, The Bunny Game and Dear God No!"
I don't need to tell you that Vegas is a stupid cool place to be during Halloween time, but just in case, I totally hear that it is. Hit up the festival and see some cool flicks - and have a few dozen cocktails for me!

Press Release: PollyGrind invites Dead Hooker in a Trunk to return to Vegas after the film gets banned in Canada

In response to Dead Hooker in a Trunk, an award-winning Canadian film from last year's event, being banned from screening at a movie theater in Canada, the PollyGrind.com Film Festival has decided to invite the film back to Las Vegas this year and offer free entry fees to other filmmakers.

After receiving an anonymous complaint about the film's title, the Roxy Theatre in Saskatoon, Canada decided to cancel an April 22 late night double feature of the film with The Taint. The screening was part of a series of events put on by the Dark Bridges Film Festival leading up to its big event in October.

"Our posters were vandalized and torn down even," said Jen Soska, who wrote, directed and starred in the film with her twin sister Sylvia. "Really? In Canada? Not cool, guys. Let's tell 'em. Loud and proud. Together, we're an army."

PollyGrind director Chad Clinton Freeman says he welcomes the Twisted Twins and Dead Hooker in a Trunk back anytime.

"This is pretty absurd," Freeman said. "What year is it again? And how does one even make an anonymous complaint about anything in this day and age?"

"Seriously," Freeman continued, "This year at my event, I'm re-screening some of our 2011 award winners the weekend of Halloween and I'd love to show Dead Hooker in a Trunk in that batch if the Soskas wanted me to. The banning of a great independent film like this is exactly why the PollyGrind exists. I hope this encourages filmmakers, those that don't already, to stand up for what they believe in, and for those that do, to keep on fighting the good fight."

Dead Hooker in a Trunk won three awards at the debut PollyGrind event. It took home the Jury Award for Best Screenplay, the Audience Award for Favorite Feature and the event's Bad Girl Award.

With the banning of Dead Hooker in a Trunk, currently many are left wondering what will happen of the Second Annual Dark Bridges Film Festival, which run October 13-16 at the Roxy Theatre. PollyGrind overlaps that event, running Oct. 7-16 and Freeman is offering free entries into his festival for all filmmakers that entered Dark Bridges last year and this year.

"Yeah, it sounds like a great event," Freeman said. "It's a shame the venue is being like this. But any friend of the Soska sisters by proxy is a friend of the PollyGrind, so send us your features and shorts. Especially, if the Roxy shuts the whole thing down; just pack up and come to Vegas."

I am just floored by the outpour of support that we have been receiving from the community in regards to this unfortunate misdirection of frustration. I am very proud to announce that 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' will be returning to the Pollygrind this year. It is a most excellent venue to showcase your stuff - submit your work and we can play together in the October Las Vegas Neon Lights.

The Violence And Gore Gets It's Recognition In Vegas!

DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK made her Las Vegas premiere at the Pollygrind Film Festival in 2010 and we were unbelievably honored to have been awarded 'Favorite Feature', 'Best Screenplay', and Everette Hartsoe's 'Bad Girl Award'.

As if that wasn't enough of a privilege, I just found out today that the Polished Apple Awards aka The Pollies were given out to nearly 30 films for their contributions and accomplishments.

Amongst the winners - check the whole rad list and article here - was a very flattering and incredibly generous award to DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK --

There was a huge focus on the film to have great gore and violence despite the modest budget. To have this recognized and appreciated means the world to us. We had an amazing group of people come together to selflessly make this movie look seriously cool in the realms of violence and gore. Thank you to everyone who checked out the film and dug what they saw.

Jen and I are total horror nerds and as young girls we based 'good horrors to watch' as films with high action and gore sequences, so it rocks that DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK (buy the DVD filled with rad extras here) would get a shout-out like this.

Thank you, you the rad people at Pollygrind, for bestowing this great title upon us! Thank you to Chad Clinton Freeman who first brought HOOKER to the Pollygrind - it made her smile. Every hooker loves Vegas and the Pollygrind Film Fest is just one more reason.

DEAD HOOKER IS A SMASH HIT AT THE POLLYGRIND

Dead Hooker in a Trunk has been one hell of a ride.

The over whelming support of the film from reviewers, horror sites, and fans has been incredible. We Twisted Twins couldn't have been happier when we were heard that DHIAT was selected to have its Vegas premiere at this year's Pollygrind Grindhouse Film Festival. It was with great regret that we were unable to attend, but after the film screened Friday, May 14th, we were delighted to hear that the film rocked the festival and received much love from all in attendance! Today, we received another great honor.

We are happy to announce that Dead Hooker in a Trunk has won the Pollygrind Jury Award for Best Screenplay, the Audience Award for Favorite Feature of the Pollygrind, and Everette Hartsoe's Bad Girl Award! Such a great honor, we had this to say when we received the gore~geous news...

We would like to humbly thank Chad Clinton Freeman for not only selecting DHIAT to screen at the 2010 Pollygrind Film Festival, but for being such a huge supporter of us and our work. We'd like to thank all the judges of the Pollygrind. We'd like to thank Everette Hartsoe for bestowing this awesome honor on we Twisted Twins. And we'd love to thank the incredible audience of the Pollygrind. We hate that we were unable to make it this year, but we promise that we will make our way one day, one day soon, to lovely Las Vegas and would love to meet every single one of you! Thank you to all the fans of the film who have made it into the beast that it has become. Without your support, kind words, emails, messages, and sharing of the film with your friends and the online world, Dead Hooker in a Trunk wouldn't be the independent sensation that it is! We really can't thank you guys enough!

Dead Hooker in a Trunk will be showing at festivals around the world this year. Stay tuned for more dates and locations. And, please. If you want the film to come to your town, drop us and line and let us know! We will do our absolute best to make it happen!

Thank you!
Bloody best,
Jen and Sylv

DHIAT TO PLAY AT POLLYGRIND IN VEGAS!

Dead Hooker in a Trunk' is finally going to the hometown of dead hookers found in trunks (or so CSI has told me) -- fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada!

The Polly Staffle Grindhouse Fest is all about the darker side of cinema and the artists that bring those films to life. Their aim is to celebrate individuality, diversity, creativity and empowerment by showcasing the work of filmmakers with defiantly independent visions. The festival will consit of five days of programming in the tradition of grindhouse cinema with double features each day, bookended by trailers and music videos.

As beautifully put by Arrowinthehead.com, "If it's sleazy B-movie grindhouse, it's gotta be PollyGrind."

Have you ever been to Vegas? Us neither. This is a damn good reason to go, though. So, save that change, bust open that piggy bank, and come for the PollyGrind, stay for the hookers.
