Twisted Twins are Total Comic Nerds & Proud

"Forget the “Twisted” part when describing Jen and Sylvia Soska, you can now add sexy geeks as well when describing these two awesome women. Fresh after their first appearance at the San Diego Comic Con where they talked about their film “American Mary“, plus showed off their cosplaying skills for the first time at the con as well. Comic Book Divas talks with Jen and Sylvia Soska about movies, comics and cosplay."
Grade five was a changing point in my young life. It was the time that I was first told by my teacher what I could and could not read. Two loves of my life came under fire - my Stephen King books that I would read, discuss the content with my mom, then watch the movie, and my comic books. Mr. King's books where deemed 'too inappropriate' and my comics were 'not real stories'. Both counts were bullshit and I had to sneak in my reading.

Even then, I knew about Comic Con and Jen and I would talk about how cool it would be to one day go to a place where people shared interests and no one judged one another on what they loved. This past Comic Con that dream became a reality and the San Diego Comic Con was even greater than I could have imagined. We were lucky enough to get the opportunity to talk to Comic Book Divas about that experience and about our filmmaking world.

Q: We talked a little bit about San Diego Comic Con; this was your first time attending the huge event, what did you think about the convention?JEN AND SYLVIA SOSKA SDCC
S: This was our first Comic Con experience. I’ve creeped on the event online through pictures, reviews, blogs, and videos on the event, but absolutely nothing could prepare me for what the event actually was. It was so incredibly happy and people were just wearing their love of the genres on their sleeve. I’m a big comic, film, and gaming nerd – so having the opportunity to hang out with so many people with the same interests is remarkable. I actually felt withdrawal when it was over. I also caught the ‘nerd flu’ but it’s a small price to pay for what was one of the best times of my life.
J: It was so much more than we expected. We had dreamed of attending for years. We had expectations. High ones, but it blew us away. We stepped into the exhibition hall on preview night and were just floored with the massiveness of it all. Kevin Smith said it best in the Comic Con documentary, “A Fan’s Hope”, Comic Con is where you find everything you’ve ever loved and thought you lost.” It’s like dying and coming back and trying to describe what Heaven was like. There are no words. It’s too much everything. And the people are just so warm and kind. It’s unlike anything. I can say we’ll never miss another.

Big thank you to everyone who checks out this blog and keeps up to date with what we are up to regularly and to you new guys that were all like 'twisted twins, what's that?' and are taking a boo or two around here. Welcome to our misadventures. Glad to have you!

D'Ment'D Cinema's Steve Mezo Interviews the Twisted Twins

I am proud to be Canadian. No doubt about it. I am equally proud of my Hungarian roots. The Soska tribe does, in fact, spawn from the land of Bela Lugosi, Nokedli, Dracula, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Stuffed Peppers, Gene Simmons, Ghoulash, and Elisabeth Bathory.

If you haven't had Nokedli (Hungarian Dumplings also called SpƤtzle) with Paprika chicken, go get yourself a Hungarian girlfriend or boyfriend and prepare to propose. It is by far the most delicious pairing available on this planet.

We've always felt a profound connection with fellow Hungarians. It's like when we discover someone has a twin. It's like finding out you're both in the same top secret, exclusive club. Such was the case when we met the wonderful Steve Mezo of D'Ment'D Cinema this year. Admittedly, we liked the guy before he revealed that we had the homeland in common. That little reveal just made us all the more happy to have a met not only a phenomenal writer that has horror in common with us, but our also all things Hungarian.

We had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Steve and what came of it was the funnest interview we've ever had. We weren't asked a single question we've been asked before. And the questions we were asked made us giggle like school girls in line for the latest Twilight POS.

We covered all essential food groups. Badass (and fine ass) X-man, Wolverine, and just how wicked awesome is that good ole' Stan The Man made him a Canadian.

She-Rah, Catra, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the characters we'd play as when we were little.

All the good stuff. TRAILER PARK BOYS, 3D Smut films, Zombie Apocalypses, and much more. It's a purrfect opportunity to get to know us a whole lot better and quite a revealing look at our personalities. It was a real pleasure.

Get the FULL AWESOME INTERVIEW right here!

And if you're not familiar with D'Ment'D Cinema, naughty, naughty, you. But we've got you covered. Catch up here and drink up the radstorm.

And, for Pete's sake, go get yourself some sweet ass Nokedli. Just look at that thing of unparalleled beauty.

XO,
Jen

New Interview on Fangirltastic, Hear Us Roar~!!

"From damsels in distress to bad-ass: the changing personae of women throughout slasher films is about to be changed by the Soskas." ~ Corrinne Brownhill, Fangirltastic

The above quote fills us with indescribable pride and happiness. I'm sure it'll make my mom feel the same way. Heck, even my dad, for as we all know, feminists come in all forms, all ages, and both genders. We're far from your stereotypical feminists. One theme we keep prevalent in our work is the presence of strong female characters. Many people have discussed DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK's Badass as the future of females in horror. From the helpless victims of the past to the virgin heroines of the 70's, our present and most likely our future has seen a new breed of women rise up in the horror industry, the femme fatale. And it's about fucking time.

We had the opportunity to chat with the very talented Corrinne Brownhill about the history of women in horror, the future, and our work.

You can read the FULL ARTICLE HERE.

With strong women like Mary Harron, Kathryn Bigelow, Katharine Hepburn and Sigourney Weaver paving the way and characters like Ripley (Alien), Alice (Resident Evil), Ginger (Ginger Snaps), Regan (The Exorcist), and "She" played by Charlotte Gainsbourg (Antichrist) leading us into the future, I'm excited to see what lies ahead.

And in closing, one of my favorite lines ever uttered...

"You make it so easy, don't you? Always waiting for some Batman to save you. I am Catwoman, hear me roar."

XO,
Jen
