Ryan Gelley likes himself a Dead Hooker In A Trunk

"Twin Canadian filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska are the masterminds responsible for Dead Hooker In A Trunk, a free-wheeling, unapologetic exploitation joyride that was one of the funnest films I’ve seen this year."
~Ryan Gelley

Ryan Gelley
is a man who knows what he likes and writes damn well.

We were delighted to have him recently review our recently released DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. To be honest, I'd love to quote his whole article.

"Dead Hooker is full of the unabashedly explicit language and violence inherent to its genre. Eyes are knocked out of their sockets, arms are severed, brains are blown out. Copious blood is spilled by baseball bats, power drills, chain saws, shaky Mohels, ice-picks and pliers. There is more than enough gore to satisfy the most blood-thirsty splatter-film fan." ~Ryan Gelley

We wanted from the very beginning to accomplish two feats. One, to make a film that was pure enjoyment for our audiences and, two, to then share that film with as many people as possible. With the release of the film quickly approaching and the film already out in Australia and the UK, it makes us so happy to see this dreams realized.

We made DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK for people who want to see a movie called DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. Ryan Gelley is exactly that person and we're so happy to have our film in his hands.

"Dead Hooker In A Trunk delivers exactly what it advertises. It is a brilliantly dumb, delightfully trashy rebuke of austerity and political correctness. If you are not grinning ear-to-ear by the end of the film, it’s likely you are not a member of Dead Hooker‘s target demographic." ~Ryan Gelley

Okay, now treat yourself to the main course. You can GET THE FULL FILM REVIEW right here. Please enjoy!

Dead Hooker On A Television

There are firsts in this life that you never forget.

You remember your first drink, your first date, your first kiss, your first time on a plane, your first pet, and your first crush, among numerous others. We have had the esteemed honor of achieving a number of unforgettable firsts with our first film, hope you've heard of her, our beloved baby, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. We remember our first day on set, our first draft, our first fan email, our first film festival attended, our first film festival ever (sadly unattended), our first premiere, our first edit, our first review, our first interview, and so many others. We will always remember May 23rd (2011), the first day that DHIAT was ever released on DVD anywhere, simultaneously in Australia and the UK.

And now, another first that we will never forget. Our television premiere, the VERY first time DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK will ever be seen on TV. It is, to say the least, a momentous occasion that we are absolutely blown away by.

The Horror Channel is responsible for this outstanding occurrence.

On Friday July 29th (a lucky number for us as we were born April 29th), at 22:55 in the beautiful UK, the Horror Channel will be premiering DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK on television. It will be the first time it has ever graced the small silver screen and we couldn't be happier. Here's what they got to say...

"Dead Hooker In A Trunk – Friday 29th
Twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska are behind the brutal and shocking independent flick Dead Hooker In A Trunk, which must earn itself the “It Does Exactly What It Says” title of the month. The movie concerns four disparate friends, the Badass, the Geek, the Goody Two Shoes and the Junkie face a fight for their lives when a dead hooker is inexplicably found in their car."

We hope you will watch DHIAT and hope to hear from each and everyone of you. It's always been our most sincere hopes to make a film that was pure enjoyment for our audiences and then to share that film with as many people as possible. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and our work. We simply adore the Horror Community and everything we do, we do for you. After all, we our selves, are just fans of horror, too.

Be sure to tune in!!

Bloody Best!

Junkie Tube

"Gagne is a veteran stunt person who delivers a wonderful lead performance as Junkie. She actually makes you care about a character with few redeeming qualities". -Theron Neel

Rikki Gagne is a brilliant actress and phenomenal stunt woman. She was our beloved Junkie in our first film, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, and gave that faulted character an undeniable charisma and warmth. After the film wrapped, Rikki went on to work on another horror project with our key makeup artist and co-producer, MaryAnn Van Graven - a werewolf flick called DARK MOON RISING. She returned home to Vancouver only to fly out to Toronto with CJ Wallis to film his dramatic short entitled LAST FLOWERS.

A person who is such a gifted actor, you wouldn't expect to have that person be an equally gifted stunt performer. Rikki could give Spidey a run for his money with her acrobatic antics - plus she could do it while set on fire. Just saying.

Don't believe me? Course you do, but it felt like the most stereotypically sensational way to start this next paragraph, so moving on... Ta-da! Rikki Gagne's YouTube channel. All Rikki, even some Farley (he played Billy in DHIAT) videos too!

Now click here and check it out, boys and girls.

Total Film gets totally titillated over Dead Hooker In A Trunk

Please meet Sam Ashurst of Total Film. An excellent writer, reviewer, aka the man, but allow this wizard with words to introduce himself...

"Hello fright fans, my name's Sam Ashurst and I'm Total Film's resident cult horror expert. I spend so much time banging on about '70s giallo movies, '80s VHS trash classics, '90s serial killer flicks and '00s foreign chillers that TF have finally decided to give me my own column. Possibly to shut me up.

Each week, I'll be dissecting the latest DVD and Blu-ray releases, uncovering hidden gore gems, and rummaging through my VHS collection to bring you some of the most bafflingly beautiful video covers from the '80s.

And come back every Friday for exclusive clips, interviews and cool competitions to get your plasma pumping.

So, take off your razor-tipped gloves, hang up your cobweb-covered hat and gently rest your bone-blunted axe beside the door.

And welcome to my House Of Horror..."

On the new release hit list this week? The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, Who Can Kill A Child, Queens Of Evil, C.H.U.D, and.... *insert cliche drum roll* ....DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. If you're anyone who's anyone, you know that DHIAT will be released this Monday, May 23rd in the UK and Australia. You know what that means? Yep, time to move.

"Honestly, this thing is packed with cool moments. They might not always be completely cohesive, but grindhouse geeks are used to that.

If you want a nuanced plot, watch Chinatown. If you want a thrill-ride that'll occasionally make you spit-take your popcorn and Coke, watch Dead Hooker In A Trunk." ~ Sam Ashurst, Total Film

Let's just say it is a positively glowing review that you'll certainly want to snap right up and, please, I hope you do.

Check out the FULL DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK REVIEW right HERE!!

And the VERY best part of NEW RELEASES? The whole new and releasing bit. So, please. Grab yourself a DEAD HOOKER of your very own.

The Parable of the 'Dead Hooker' A Gore Gospel By Bob Freville

When you think "DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK", what instantly comes to mind? Muscle cars, identical twins, chainsaws, guts, blood, and maybe a goat? How about God and good versus evil and sin and penance? Maybe not. But it should.

What many are surprised to discover are my doppelganger and I are very religious. Yes, you may go as far as to say that Jesus is, in fact, our homeboy. Much of our work has religious undertones to it, but none so significantly as our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. Why? Because at the root of it all is good versus evil. In too many films, particularly Hollywood films, good is easily distinguishably from evil. If you take a gander at, say, Asian Cinema, like our most recent trip to the theatres to see I SAW THE DEVIL, the lines blur. Good has evil dwelling within it and even evil has some good. Both exist in all of us. There's an old saying that we all have two fighting dogs within us. One good and one evil. And the one that wins is the one that we feed more often. But, of course, if you don't feed one, it'll start to get hungry and act out...

Enter one extraordinary writer, Bob Freville, of Kotori Magazine (and writer for KillingBoxx). Not only is he an exceptional writer, he sees the religious connotations cleverly hidden away in DHIAT. It's chalk full of good, evil, and religious imagery. Like Junkie waking up to a "burning bush" and being inspired to be insightful.

In all honesty, the article is just too good to spoil. Gore~geously written, with a brilliant, yet playful turn of phrase, here is but one small part with reference to our favorite Bear Jew...

"You see, in the Year Two Thousand Nine A.D., two Canadian ladies, a pair of twins spawned from Eve's rib (or was it Lilith's?) begat a movie. And that movie begat a cult phenomenon that is still rumbling in the underground. That movie was called Dead Hooker in a Trunk and as it was made so it was released and awesome public figures like Eli Roth took notice of its beseechments and Roth, the coolest Jew since Jesus, spread the news and fanboys rejoiced! Word of mouth had it that there was a movie from a pair of kick-ass Canooks who gave Womanhood a better name than Mary Magdalene and Madonna combined. And these chicks didn't have to sing "Like A Virgin" to make it happen!" ~ Bob Freville, Kotori Magazine, Killinboxx

It's just wonderfully written. A definite must read article. I'm not one to spoil the fun, so please enjoy the FULL PIECE HERE.

Bloody Best!

Ted Brown of Bloody Disgusting gives DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK 10/10

"Every once in awhile a film comes out of left field that is such a innovation in film making that within moments of starting it you just know that you are witnessing something important that will one day become a cult classic that other aspiring film makers will look to for inspiration. This is exactly the sort of film Dead Hooker in a Trunk is and the twisted twins Jen and Sylvia Soska are destined to become a part of the next generation of iconic horror writers and directors." ~ Ted Brown, Bloody Disgusting

This morning, Ted Brown, of Bloody Disgusting, a truly gore~geous site that we adore, posted an outstanding review of our beloved DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. With the film being released in the UK and Australia on May 23rd and with official news of the world wide release just at the tip of our collective tongues, we were excited to see what he had to say. Bringing the film to where it is has been quite the epic journey and bringing the film to Ted Brown, who is not only an incredibly adept writer with a beautiful turn of phrase and intimate style, but also a true fan of horror and cinema. We are honored by his wonderful review of the film. Ted is exactly the kind of person that we made the film for and to get the right film to the right people makes us so happy.

I could easily go on and on about his review, which contains no spoilers, but you really ought to treat yourselves to a little read.

Check out the kick ass review right here!!

Please enjoy. I know we did.

And if you're not familiar with Bloody Disgusting, there's no time like the present to read up and make friends with this wicked site.

Genki Slave's Dead Hooker Appreciation

"It satisfies. It's brilliant. It's not a gore film of such, but it does have its moments of gore which are fucking superbly done and the effects are pretty fucking awesome." ~ Genki Slave

What makes the British so fucking cool? Is there more to those traditional "bangers and mash" than meets the eye? It has been such an indescribable pleasure to be able to share our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK with so many amazing people. On May 23rd, we will be able to share the film with even more people as DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK is released in the UK. Heck, you can even pre-order yours now.

It was esteemed pleasure to send our HOOKER over the pond to one wicked reviewer, Genki Slave. Gore~geous name, I must say. The gent does reside in the beautiful UK and was kind enough to review our film. And what did he have to say?

"There's a lot of laugh out loud scenes in this and the dialogue is pretty fucking cool. You need to check this out because this is one of the best independent films I've seen in a long time. I highly recommend it." ~ Genki Slave

Now he said a whole lot more, but you're just going to have to check out the video below to hear it all.

A very special thanks to Genki Slave for taking the time to review our DEAD HOOKER. While you're at it, be sure to check out his other wicked awesome reviews at his Youtube channel HERE.

Film Bizarro and Dead Hooker In A Trunk

"At this point if you haven't heard of the Soska Sister's movie "Dead Hooker in a Trunk" then you my friend are living under a rock. The Soska's leave no stone unturned with their little home-grown project: successful festival tours where the movies garners both praises and prizes, glowing reviews from various critics and media sites, the movie has managed to even catch the attention of Eli Roth." ~ Preston Carnell, FilmBizarro.com

A long time ago, we had a dream of making a film. With little more than an unconventional idea, a few incredible friends, and a won't-let-any-logical-reason-as-to-why-we-shouldn't-do-this-stand-in-our-way attitude set out to make that dream a reality.

We have come so far and have the wicked awesome horror community to thank for that. Every single person who went out of their way to see the film, everyone who's written to us, everyone who's told a friend about DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, every festival that has played our film, every reviewer who's written about it, and countless others have taken our DEAD HOOKER and made it into what it is today. The film will be released in the UK on May 23rd with more official release news coming. At long last, everyone will be able to park a DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK in their living rooms.

It's a beautiful thing.

And speaking of gore~geous... FilmBizarro.com is spectacular. A site that embraces both independent and underground talent. Preston Carnell of the site was kind enough to take the time to watch and review the film. A special thanks to one James DePaolo for introducing us. Preston has a fantastical way with words and his review of the film is downright delectable. Not only does he have a vast understanding of horror, he has a twisted sense of humor, the kind that inspired us to make our film in the first place.

"With the title, I'm sure most folks are expecting "Dead Hooker in a Trunk" to be a comedy, and you'd be right. The movie is a successful combination of horror and pitch-black comedy that manages to get you to say, "Oh shit" one minute, and making you slap your knee from morbid hysterics the next." ~ Preston Carnell, FilmBizarro.com

A very special thanks to both Preston and FilmBizarro.com for the brilliant work that they do and for spending some intimate time with our DEAD HOOKER.

Please enjoy the FULL REVIEW HERE.

And do take a little awesome tour around the site. You'll find many a treasure.

Bob Freville Spends Quality Time with our Dead Hooker In A Trunk

What is Kotori magazine? In a word, awesome. In two? Fucking awesome.

If you treat yourselves to a little browse of their official site, they'll tell you they are "where the future of music, art and politics collide to define a new and necessary progressive culture." This is also true and far more eloquently put than my summery. And they're exceptionally good, too. In every definition of the word. Kotori is dedicated to providing its readers with insight into an emerging culture defined by progress towards a globally cooperative and environmentally sound way of life.

Bob Freville is the associate editor at Kotori and is no stranger to wicked awesomeness, in fact, the combination of the two seems to have been an inevitability. Bob was kind enough to cozy up to our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK and give us his thoughtful insight. He has a wonderful writing style that simply pulls you in and makes you feel as though you're in the company of a good friend.

And a damn good one at that...

"It's a seldom thing to be promised something great and get exactly that. How many times has somebody recommended an album or a movie to you, and when you bring it home you're so sorely underwhelmed that you feel like pissing on the "art" and shitting on the person who raved about it? But Jen & Sylvia Soska's Dead Hooker in a Trunk is one of those infrequent articles of awesomeness that not only doesn't disappoint or piss you off, but fills you to drowning point with piss and vinegar and glee! This is a flick that's as bad ass as its title would suggest!"

As you may guess from that delicious snippet, Bob peered into our proverbial trunk and liked what he saw. We simply adored his article and highly recommend you start your day off with a piping hot cup of rad.

Check out the FULL DELECTABLE REVIEW HERE.

A very special thanks to Bob Freville for taking the time to watch our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK and all the kick ass Kotorians.

Gerry Button Reviews Our Dead Hooker In A Trunk

Once upon a time, we had a dream. It was to make a film that was absolutely ridiculous, but pure enjoyment for our audiences. Then, to share that film with as many people as possible. Before we had anything, we had an idea. A title. A simple sentence that would stick divide our audiences and rightfully so. If you don't like the title, I can't imagine there being much else in the film that would win you over (aside from maybe our little pug dog, but he eats a severed penis at one point so that probably ain't gonna help). The film is our beloved debut, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK.

It has reached across the world, won numerous awards and honors, been seen at film festivals both big and small (it's even played at pubs) and now, we are approaching it's ultimate release. In fact, on May 23rd in the UK, you will be able to bring home your very own DEAD HOOKER. You can even pre-order now.

As you all know, and really ought to know, Kristy Jett, writer extraordinaire and all 'round badass, knows some pretty spectacular folk. It comes with the turf of wicked awesome-ness. She was kind enough to introduce us to one Gerry Button of BACKLASH HORROR. He was most kind enough to review our film. It truly means so much to us each and every time we hear that someone has taken the time (and usually gone out of their way) to watch DHIAT. He was also wonderful enough to review the film. He gave us his whole-hearted and honest opinion and we respect that. We are happy to say that he did, indeed, love the film.

I could go into further details on his review, but he beautifully gift wrapped it in video form so you don't even have to worry about that pesky reading.

Just click below and enjoy.

Thank you so much, Gerry, for your kick ass review! Just wait till you see AMERICAN MARY...
