FEARnet.com Offers a Sneak Peek at Some Paranormal Nazi Shenanigans!

I'm proud to announce that the upcoming modern-day exploitation flick known as Ratline--executive-produced and co-starring longtime Friend of the Vault and Vault contributor Jessie "Nos" Seitz of Gothic Beauty magazine--will soon be getting a bit of sneak preview at FEARnet.com. Beginning Monday, July 12, the web component of the on-demand horror service will be showing an entire scene from the movie, currently in post-production in anticipation of a release later this year.

Ratline tells the story of an ex-Nazi occultist who found a way to escape capture and survive the decades by paranormally extending his youth, taking refuge in a small Midwestern American town. There he crosses paths with a girl on the lam from cops due to a drug-money heist gone bloodily wrong. Unfortunately, she also gets mixed up in his despicable plot to return to his SS work and unleash supernatural havoc on the world.

The newest production of Wicked Pixel Cinema, the film is directed by Eric Stanze, previously known for Scrapbook, which was named 2001's Best Independent Film of the Year by Rue Morgue magazine. You can find out more about Ratline at:
Congrats once again to Jessie, and be sure to check out FEARnet.com starting July 12 for the clip!

Lose the Swine Flu Blues with FEARnet's Free "Infectious Films"

It's my distinct pleasure to announce that The Vault of Horror is now an affiliate of FEARnet.com, the web's #1 entertainment site devoted to horror, suspense and thrillers, named by PC Magazine as one "The 15 Best Websites for Movie Fans." This is indeed a very cool development for me, as I've been a longtime reader of FEARnet.com, and a member since 2006, when I was first introduced to it by a fellow horror aficionado. Thanks to this new relationship, The Vault will be able to bring you exclusive news, video, goodies, etc. courtesy of FEARnet on a regular basis.

And to kick things off, here's a special look at the latest batch of free movies FEARnet.com will be presenting next month. In response to the recent media overdose of swine flu coverage, the site has put together what they're calling "Infectious Films"--a collection of favorites focusing on the concept of creepy viruses. Perhaps not in the best taste, but this is horror people, if you want taste, go watch Oxygen or some crap.

Here's what they've got in store starting Wednesday, June 3:

Dance of the Dead A recent fave of mine, about a bunch of high school geeks who must band together when all the cool kids get turned into zombies. And how can you not like a movie with a Pat Benatar cover?

Resident Evil: Apocalypse Milla Jovovich kicks zombie ass in this RE sequel, making its web premiere.

Night of the Creeps One of the original zombie comedies, featuring Tom "Thrill Me" Atkins.

Infection (a.k.a. Kansen) An unsettling piece of J-horror about a disease that liquifies muscles and organs. Yummy.

C.H.U.D. II A so-bad-its-good sequel to the '80s cult classic, featuring the guy who played the rebellious douchebag on Head of the Class.

Days of Darkness A goofy 2007 zom-com about a comet that turns the whole human race into flesh-hungry ghouls. Kind of like Night of the Comet, except.... hmmm, wait... actually, it's exactly like Night of the Comet.

FEARnet.com will be streaming these germ-ridden flicks for free, 24/7, starting June 3.

First MonstersHD, Now FEARnet??

Folks, we as horror fans need to stand up and get angry. It's time to do something. The loss of Monsters HD was a crippling blow to anyone who enjoys watching uncut horror flicks on TV--and now comes the enraging news that Time Warner Cable has dropped the FEARnet on-demand service from its lineup.

FEARnet.com reported the news last night, and it was brought to my attention by colleague and FEARnet.com writer Scott Weinberg. Apparently, Time Warner must feel that there is not enough support for a 24/7 on-demand horror film provider, but clearly we know this isn't so. And they need to know this.

If you've had FEARnet dropped from your service and you're pissed off, or even if you have a different provider and you're still pissed off, call this number: 1-877-FEAR-247. FEARnet will connect you with your cable operator, so you can voice your complaint.

Let me remind you that this is how it started with Monsters HD last year, first getting dropped by one provider at a time, until it ultimately closed its doors, depriving horror fans of a superb source of entertainment. I would not be surprised if FEARnet is headed in the exact same direction, if nothing is done to alter this course. And then all we'll have is ChillerTV, so for God's sake people, we need to do something.

I'm baffled as to where this lack of confidence in the concept of a horror channel is coming from. In my experience, horror has a much stronger mainstream following than science fiction, and yet the Sci-Fi Channel has been going strong for many years. Hell, there's even an Encore Westerns channel. Horror fans, unite and speak up!

Want to See The Midnight Meat Train?

Clive Barker fans who were outraged at the way in which Lions Gate shafted his latest film The Midnight Meat Train now finally have the opportunity to see it. Starting today, FEARnet is offering the brutal serial killer pic as part of its cable VOD service. If you don't have FEARnet with your cable package, don't worry, it gets better. On October 30, for one day only, FEARnet has announced you will be able to watch the movie for free on their website.

Adapted from a Barker short story, the film version of Midnight Meat Train was the subject of much controversy recently when Lions Gate raised the ire of fans, and of the author/director himself, by making the last-minute decision to consign the movie to an extremely limited theatrical release, then dump it straight to DVD.

FEARnet is currently carrying an exclusive promo clip from the increasingly unhealthy-looking Barker introducing the film.
