Horror Blog Roundup!

It's been quite some time since I've done one of these--actually it was way back in the HorrorBlips days, when it was far easier to have all your daily horror blog goodness in one, convenient place. Well, it's time to stop being lazy and recognize some of the fine work being done by my dear friends and colleagues throughout the blogosphere. Let's peruse, shall we?

Billy Loves Stu: This one ain't safe for the kiddies, folks--but since when is the legendary Pax Romano one to concern himself with the boundaries of moral propriety? Pax is revisiting one of his most popular features, casting the lurid spotlight on some truly hilarious examples of horror porn spoofs. Four words: Nightmare on Twink Street. Pax, I salute you.

Classic-Horror.com: The horror community was saddened recently at the loss of Hammer's uncontested queen, Ingrid Pitt. If you're looking for a concise and effective tribute/obituary to the woman and her career, look no further than Nate Yapp's excellent site.

Day of the Woman: My beloved sister blogger, BJ-C, has done it again with another one of her "Things I Love to Do" pictorial posts. They always warm my evil heart, and this time is no exception. Funny stuff from the online Mistress of the Macabre...

Fascination with Fear: Talented writer and fellow horse racing aficionado Christine Hadden is making her blog live up to its name by taking an in-depth look at what specifically frightens her the most about certain horror flicks. So head over and check out the first two installments of what is sure to be a captivating series, Bringing on the Fear.

Freddy in Space: Johnny Boots never fails to put forth captivating content in one of my absolute favorite corners of the horrorsphere. This time, he takes an amusing look back at Roger Ebert's fascination relationship with the horror genre over the years. Worth it just for the illustration alone!

The Horror Digest: One can always rely on the one and only Andre "Don't Call Me Alexandre" Dumas to come through with some serious gems, and I am constantly entertained by the fruits of her critical labors. What I also appreciate is her willingness to flout the boundaries of what might normally be covered on a horror blog. For example, her most recent bold confession of love for Batman Forever. No, it has nothing to do with horror. But you know what--who cares? It's a hoot, and you need to give it a look.

Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire: You all know that the lovely Tenebrous Kate is my running buddy and all-around gal pal, not to mention a real-life friend within the horror blogosphere. She's also very good at what she does, and very recently, that included putting together a comparison of Herschel Gordon Lewis' original The Wizard of Gore, with the 2007 remake. In-depth, and persuasive as always.

Musings Across a Continuum: For those of you who may not yet be aware (shame on you!), the utterly fabulous Ms. Harker has returned to the blogging community after an extended baby-related hiatus. In her most recent post, she weighs in on the controversial news of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot sans Joss Whedon...

Planet of Terror!: The Fies' sisters epic horror film festival series, Bleedfest, has been generating quite a bit of buzz lately, and one man who has been doing so much to help promote it is the most excellent Cortez Killer. Here, Cortez chimes in with some reviews of the short films being shown in this month's installment.

Theofantastique: If you're looking to exercise those brain muscles while you do your blog reading, you will always do well to pay John W. Morehead a visit. This time, he addresses a lecture given by science fiction author Robert J. Sawyer, in which Sawyer takes issue with some apparent damage George Lucas has wrought on the social relevance of the sci-fi genre (which I happen to agree with.) Damn good reading.

That'll do for the time being, but there's a lot more great stuff being done out there, so be sure to spend some time surfing the horror blogosphere and soaking up what my magnificent cohorts and cronies are cooking up. And will someone please get HorrorBlips back up and running again, please? Thank you.

Horror Blog Roundup!

It's been a couple of months since I did this, so I figured this would be as good a time as any to spotlight some of the amazing things going on in the so-called "horror blogosphere" (damn, I should've trademarked that when I had the chance...) As always, there are a lot of very cool people doing some very cool things out there, and I could probably mention about 100 of them if I really wanted to (OK, maybe 80.) But in lieu of such an exhaustive (and exhausting) rundown, here instead is a roundup of just a few worthy highlights...

Big Daddy Horror Reviews: Roger Ebert made major waves recently by lashing out against Kick-Ass with a one-star review, thereby drawing the ire of many bloggers. Yet Battlin' Brandon Sites has taken the brave position of actually defended Mr. Ebert and his right to his opinion.

Evil on Two Legs: As an English major/horror fanatic, I really appreciated the collection of classic poems with a horror edge put together by the jocular Jon Minton, one half of Eo2L. Some great work by Adrienne Rich and Sylvia Plath, two moody favorites of mine.

Fandomania: The Vault's newest contributor, the precocious Paige MacGregor, recently capped off an excellent series over at her main digs, pertaining to the top 5 self-made superheroes of all time. Yeah, we all know who's number-one, but this is some geektastic stuff nevertheless!

Final Girl: If you haven't already been checking out the Bloggenaire interview series being put out by the sartorial Stacie Ponder in her highly popular corner of the web, you should be. Some truly hilarious Q&As with some of your fave horror bloggers, most recently the Rondo winner for Best Horror Blog, Max Cheney Considine!

Frankensteinia: For my money, the pugnacious Pierre Fournier's ode to Mary Shelley's monster may be the finest horror blog in existence, and all this week he's living up to that rep by spotlighting Bride of Frankenstein in honor of the 75th anniversary of that landmark motion picture.

The Horror Digest: Amblin' Andre Dumas has a knack for some of the most off-beat and quirky list posts you'll ever find, and she's certainly done it again with this special look at The Best Runners in Horror Movie History...

Kindertrauma: This here is a blog known for its excellence, and they've outdone themselves this time with a jaw-dropping visual study put together by the unctious Unkle Lancifer, taking a look at the similarities in Ridley Scott's Alien with both films that came before, and after. Amazing.

Legends and Lore of Illinois: The benevolent BJ-C of Day of the Woman was recently the subject of a very cool interview for the April issue of this online magazine that specializes in the paranormal. Check it out here.

Love Train for the Tenebrous Empire: If you were mildly amused by yesterday's recap of my Chiller Theatre exploits, then you need to check out the alternate experience of one Tenebrous Kate, who was also on hand. It's like watching the same event shot with two completely different cameras.

Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Movies: You will never find me passing up a review/discussion of Sleepaway Camp, and thus I was certainly drawn to this, the dastardly Duke of DVD's fascinating in-depth dissection of the '80s cult phenom.

That's it for now, folks. Stay tuned for more Horror Blog Roundups to come, spotlighting other fine folks doing great things!

Horror Blog Roundup!

With it being Valentine's Day and all (at least for a few more hours), I figured what better way to show some love than to spotlight some of my favorite horror blogs? I could easily fill about 20 different posts with all the great stuff people are doing out there, but for now this will have to do as a mere fraction of all the awesomeness. I hope to be able to do more of these down the road!

Anyway, here's a brief look at some of the interesting things going down in the horror blogosphere...

Billy Loves Stu: The pulchritudinous Pax Romano lusts openly over his favorite mature gentlemen of horror film, a.k.a. Horror Movie DILFs. And you, dear reader, are lucky enough to have a ringside seat. Go and enjoy...

Brutal as Hell: OK, it's not exactly a blog, but BAH is one phenomenal horror website. And right now you can find a fascinating interview editor Marc Patterson conducted with the bombastic Britt Hayes, one of the finest new film critics around, pro or am...

Chuck Norris Ate My Baby: The monstrous Matt-suzaka brings you a little thing each and every weekend called Freddy's Friday Night Dance Party, which features horror related music clips. One of the most recent was the extremely badass "Anything, Anything" by Dramarama, from NOES 4. Plus, Matt is next up as my guest in the Conversations in the Dark podcast!

Day of the Woman: The bodacious BJ-C just put up a delightful photo essay chronicling the things that warm her black heart, and tying it all into images from horror flicks. See how many you can name! It's just a sample of her new Tumblr blog...

Fascination with Fear: The venerable Ax Wound Magazine has declared this Women in Horror Recognition Month, and the courageous Chris Hadden is doin' it up right with her Female Villains in Horror series...

Gothic Beauty Magazine: Ms. Horror Blogosphere contestant Jessie "Nos" Seitz has written up a brutally honest review of The Wolf Man, a movie I plan on checking out Tuesday night (half-price night, baby!) While you're at it, check out Nos' brand new official website--just not at work...

Horror Crypt: The bold and brash Bloofer Lady has a bunch of fascinating features she runs regularly, but one of the newer ones has particularly caught my attention: Historical Horrors, which sheds some much-needed light on real-life terrors throughout time...

The Horror Digest: The awesome Andre Dumas has been doing one hell of a job for the past couple of weeks with her Black History Month posts spotlighting black figures in the world of horror, both hugely famous (Samuel L. Jackson) and more obscure (the parapsychologist dude from Poltergeist).

Necrotic Cinema: Somehow, the youthful Uranium Willy manages to be a successful horror blogger while residing in the People's Republic of China. Take a look into his world as he recounts what it's like acquiring and watching horror movies under the yoke of communist oppression...

Sinful Cinema: The tenacious T.L. Bugg of The Lightning Bug's Lair and the rambunctious Rev. Phantom of Midnight Confessions have joined forces for a brand new podcast. It would be in your best interest to look into it...

Zombies DON'T Run: Chucklin' Chuck Conry recently started speaking my language, by taking a special look at three movies near and dear to my heart, George Romero's original "Living Dead" trilogy...

That's it for now, folks. Stay tuned for more Horror Blog Roundups to come, spotlighting other fine folks doing great things!
