"Eleven years ago Christine and I organised a recording session in Vandoeuvre during the Musique Action Festival. We were invited by the late Dominique Repecaud to perform ‘live’ and he kindly offered us a space in the building to record. At the time Christine and I had hardly played together and we spent a couple of days in a small rehearsal studio somewhere in the building of CCAM recording our improvisations. We felt there were a handful of pieces that really stood out but not enough to release as a CD just then, so we shelved the project, waiting for an opportunity to record again in the near future. That future took 10 years to materialise as both of us became very busy with our newly arrived families and other music projects that took up most of our time. We ended up not playing together for many years, until we finally reunited in Rotterdam for a duo in 2019 during the Ex Festival. In September 2021 we managed to organise a second recording session after a concert in Instants Chavirés in Montreuil in our friend Bani’s house." Andy Moor

45 records in 45 days

 

 

ANYWAY...

"45 records in 45 days" is a book published by  G.W.Sok containing a series of 45 daily reports about 45 record-sleeves that were important to him. Basically all the records he was involved in during his time and life with the punk-rock band The Ex. Originally the narratives appeared on Facebook, challenged by Mice Elf, a.k.a. Uno Hoo. The positive feedback that came with it, made Sök  decide to turn it into a book.

Une nouvelle édition Druxat de G.W. Sök intitulée "45 records in 45 days. Anyway..." est un ouvrage de 100 pages en couleur, pleines de faits relatifs aux 45 albums du groupe punk-rock  The Ex auxquels G.W.Sok a participé. À l'origine un feuilleton quotidien sur Facebook qui est devenu incontrôlable, en anglais, puis à la demande générale, regroupé dans un livre et imprimé sur papier. Livré dans une véritable pochette simple de 18 × 18 cm.
Publié officiellement le 5 octobre 2020 il est disponible via la boutique en ligne et lors des concerts de G.W. Sök lui-même.

Way back to the past, last century! 

 

The great poet and sax player Ted Milton who formed in 1979  Blurt, a rough band in between punk-rock and funk attitude.
 

 

 

More funky than the more skinny output of NY parodist James Chance, Ted Milton is a grandiose saxophone player, dissonant "à la Charlie Parker", boucing around and some times pure nevrotic sound collagist, as well a great voice screaming with full of energy, reminding The Ex's atmosphere.

Piotr Mamonov

Pyotr Nikolayevich Mamonov is a songwriter born in 1951 mainly known as

the lead singer of the russian post-punk band Zvuki Mu founded in 1983.

As an actor, Mamonov's appeared in the leading role

in Pavel Lungin's 1990 "Taxi Blues".

In 1982, he began the band Zvuki Mu. His name originates from a series of affectionate names beginning with the syllable mu that Mamonov and Gorokhova would call each other, though the earliest occurrence of the name Zvuki Mu occurs in some of Mamonov's poetry from the late 1960s.

Chasing Bone

Chasing Bone est un trio parisien, formé de Panos Anastasiadis (guitare, composition), Giannis Rematas (batterie), tous deux originaires  de Thessalonique en Grèce et de Felix Masson (basse).

"Trio bouillonnant aux envolées frénétiques. Excellent batteur, grande maîtrise du bassiste, et un guitariste zélé qui n'hésite pas à prendre les risques les plus fous pour faire dérailler  la machine". 

Leur premier opus "State of the underdog" sort officiellement vendredi 20 octobre à l'occasion de leur concert au Studio Campus à Paris. Suivra une tournée sud-européenne en France, Espagne, Italie et Grèce.
Un son de guitare et des textures post no-wave, des mélodies tendues en équilibre instable sur trois notes, un groove ample et nerveux, entre punk jazz et avant-rock, ruptures noise et ambient ténébreuse, énergie rythmique et audace harmonique, la musique de Chasing Bone est à la fois savamment structurée et furieusement déjantée...

Jello Biafra's wedding

Early 80s, one of the most remarkable figure of the San Francisco's punk scene was the band Dead Kennedys and his leader, the singer and songwriter Jello Biafra.

On October 31 in 1981, Halloween day, Jello Biafra married Theresa Soder, aka Minotchka, lead singer of the punk band The Situations. The "ceremony" happened on a graveyard in the Colma's cemetery and was conducted by Bruce Loose, vocalist and bass player in the band Flipper. The wedding reception, which members of Flipper, Black Flag, and D.O.A.  attended, was held at director Joe Rees' Target Video studios.


Au début des années 80, l'une des figures les plus remarquables de la scène punk de San Francisco était les Dead Kennedys et leur leader, le chanteur et compositeur Jello Biafra.
Le 31 Octobre 1981, jour d'Halloween, Jello Biafra épousait Theresa Soder, alias Ninotchka, chanteuse du groupe punk Les Situations. La cérémonie avait lieu dans le cimetière de Colman. Bruce Loose, chanteur et bassiste du groupe Flipper, en était le maître de cérémonie. La journée s’était terminée dans les locaux de Target Video, avec un concert mémorable réunissant Flipper, Black Flag, D.O.A. et bien sûr, les Dead Kennedys eux-mêmes.

Two radio producers reporting in San Francisco for the french "France Culture", Gérard Drecq and Jean Jacques Palix were there for that special day which ended in a great hardcore punk concert at Target Video' studios.

Target Video

Joe Rees was the founder of the famous Target Video which produced movies around the new musical scenes in San Francisco in the last 70s and early 80s.
He mainly documented some of the performances by some of the greatest bands of the punk era.

Joe Rees était le fondateur et principal activiste de Target Video qui a filmé les nouvelles scènes musicales de San Francisco - punk, new wave... -  autour de 1980.

Punk posters from San Francisco

 

"No Martyr, San Francisco punk posters - 1976-1981" est une intéressante exposition autour des affiches de concerts punk à San Francisco et sur la côte ouest des Etats-Unis.
Cette collection de notre ami cinéaste Claude Santiago qui nous a quitté, il y quelques années, a été réunie à la Galerie P38 (33ter rue Doudeauville, 75018 - Paris) par Manuel Morin et restera visible jusqu'au 4 mars 2016.
On peut y voir aussi quelques uns des films produits par Joe Rees, fondateur de "Target Video". 

"... Loin de l'Angleterre, des scènes se forment sans modèles préétablis. parmi celle-ci, celle de la "Bay area" va être d'une puissance sans égal. Claude Santiago va en être, animant un ancien bar chicano devenu, sous son impulsion, théâtre d'expérimentation visuelle et sonore: le "Savoy Tivoli"...
Là ou la génération précédente devait imprimer en offset ou en sérigraphie, la génération punk va utiliser la Xerox et le caméra. Là où les Hippies s'inspiraient de l'art nouveau, les Punks vont s'inspirer du Constructivisme..."  Manuel Morin

Les principaux lieux de ces scènes à San Francisco étaient le "Deaf Club", le "Mabuhay Garden", le "Savoy Tivoli" et bien d'autres.
Les protagonistes: les Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, The Mutants, The Avengers, Germs, Indoor Life, Tuxedomoon, Flipper, No Sisters, et aussi les groupes qui viennent d'autres régions comme les Throbing Gristle, les Cramps, Iggy Pop, Devo ...

Et bien sûr aussi le studio "Target Video" de Joe Rees où sont tournés et produits grand nombre de films de concert dont certains sont à voir dans l'exposition.
