Small Steps - Big Strides

Sundays Visit -- It has been a couple of days since I had seen Renee.

She is now just over 4 lbs. - I was able to observe her nightly routine: temp taken, remove all clothes and be weighed, clean diaper and a new outfit.

She has changed - she was alert tonight, she cried a little and she wiggled alot -- just before her feeding.

Baby Renee you have taken such "Little Steps" but your progress is like "Big Strides". Keep eating and growing, I'm so proud of you and the progress you are making. This day you brought tears to my eyes!

I soon will have to leave and the next time I see you, you will be in your home eating and sleeping and doing all those things that babies do. I wish the distance wasn't so far so that you could come to aunties house for the afternoon but nonetheless the miles between don't make us any less family.

You are a blessing little girl - Love Your Auntie (Nanny) Leah

"AND GOD SAW EVERYTHING THAT HE MADE, AND, BEHOLD, IT WAS VERY GOOD." Genesis 1:31

Monday's visit -- was also very eventful... No more air flow tube, trying the bottle and to breastfeed and possibly later today moving to Level 2. Yahoo!

This will be my last entry from Louisiana - see you at home! My entries for a time will be sporadic - when I left home the hard drive on our computer died so we will see when it can be replaced. Happy Blogging!

Welcome Renee!

Saturday afternoon we had a baby shower to help welcome Renee.

We worked on final touches while Jess and Floyd went to the hospital to see Renee.

They returned - now to begin welcoming guests.

The many gifts were opened and Renee will be the best dressed baby in Louisiana!

It was nice to meet Jess' friends, some are like family to her -- and all are excited about baby Renee!

Up Early Looking for Deals!

Friday evening Mom and I were a bit wound up and up a bit late. Busy with the final touches on the baby shower. Quite late we decided to go to one garage sale which was close by. (When Mom was down here the past spring she would go to garage sales with the neighbor lady, Miss Barbara, and others. Their routine was up early to find some good deals).

So the plan was to go to one garage sale just a few blocks away:

Up at 6 a.m. - garage sale starts at 6:30 am
Set the alarms on our cellphones
Be quiet and we'll take Jess' car - if we can't find the keys we'll head over to Miss Barbara's across the street.

So Saturday morning arrived -- up on time and heading out the door. Felt funny - like sneaking out - we found the car keys and left Jess a note.

Mom's comment after looking over at Ms. Barbara's was "They're already gone" (she was reminded later that they leave at 5:30 a.m.)

Our one and only garage sale was a flop. They never opened up. We wondered about the address and wondered if we should just knock on the door and ask to see their garage!

After a phone call to Ms. Barbara we were off to another garage sale - since this one really didn't count.

This sale was a good one - tents in the yard!

And some bargains!

We did wish we would have hooked up with Ms. Barbara but we did have things to do to prepare for the baby shower. So after a quick trip uptown and breakfast at McDonalds we headed home to prepare for a busy day.

July 19th Happy Anniversary!

Twenty-three years ago I married my friend! We still enjoy each others' company - which I guess is pretty important! Well I enjoy his company and assume he enjoys mine -- maybe he just tolerates me!

Twenty-three years ago it was a lovely July day in the lakes area of Minnesota -- lovely to quite warm but tolerable even without air conditioners.

Our wedding was in town then the wedding reception was 8 miles away in an even smaller town at the local community center. Beverages on tap were served and also a good meal.

Later the wedding party and others moved to a dancehall which at one time I believe was known as the "Pit Stop". The night was full of dancing and fun -- we headed out after midnight for our honeymoon. Destination "Black Hills" of South Dakota.

We have been back once to the Black Hills - Our youngest had her 4th Birthday in the Black Hills -- we attempted to take many of the same pictures (now family of 4) that we had taken with just the 2 of us.

Happy Anniversary Honey - see you soon!

Girls Day Out!

Friday was girls day out! Jess had a doctors appointment so off to Lafayette we went. The first store we stopped at it started pouring and it was a downpour. We picked up another umbrella - so we had 1 large and 1 regular - we still got wet! (Steve would have said it was a gully washer!) I now know what the "umbrella bags" are for and maybe shouldn't have made "fun" of them. A business (I believe the hospital) had a display of umbrella bags - these bags are for your wet umbrellas.

For lunch we ate a Poboys - it was wonderful! My salad with fried shrimp was the best I've ever had. Of course, after we were done and left it was raining again. We sure got the giggles trying to figure out who should run to the car first, etc.

After lunch, Jess went to her appointment and then to visit Renee for the afternoon - Mom and I did shopping in preparation for the baby shower!

On the way home, some roads were covered with water.

Meeting Renee!

The first day we arrived in Louisiana Mom (Grandma) and I joined Floyd and Jess on their evening trip to the hospital.

We were greeted by "One Fish, Two Fish, New Fish" - a take off of Dr. Seuss - very cute!

And to see Renee we:

**Scrub and Scrub
**Check in - need drivers license. Only one visitor at a time with Mom or Dad. The others sit in the family waiting room - (which is a very moving experience in itself) - each family's baby story is different and just as special as the next.

This is where I sat and waited for Grandma and Jessica while they visited. Floyd came in - we scrubbed and scrubbed to get ready for our turn. Finally... Floyd went in first -- it was my turn - I walked down the hallways, passed other babies and there she was in Floyd's arms.

She's a little peanut all wrapped up. Her momma calls her a "little burrito" and sometimes daddy calls her "little turd" (which makes the nurses laugh).

Floyd explained the monitor readings to me - oh what they have learned.

We spent a little time with her - Daddy encouraging her to open her eyes which sometimes she did.

I met tiny Renee - a huge blessing to those that love her and to those she's yet to meet! At this time she is busy concentrating on eating and growing -- we know that she is a fighter and it is going to be so fun to see her grow!

We love you Renee -- Your Minnesota Auntie and Uncle Steve!

Up Up & Away - Plane Ride

Getting packed - was interesting in itself since I was told you can take your purse and one carry on bag.

Challenge #1 - find the largest, roomiest purse I could find. That was a task. I tried many in the store - practiced carrying them to see if it was perfect. There were many I wouldn't be caught dead carrying but then again if it meant I could take more things --- maybe?

Challenge #2 - bag of clothes. What do I take? And how do you just take 3 pairs of pants/shorts and the same number of shirts - I usually don't know what I want to wear until the time arrives. Ohh and don't forget the shoes. Two pairs of shoes? This felt somewhat like "Survivor" take this bag and take all the things you need! I was very selective and now wish I had more capris and tank tops. Ohh well, they probably won't mind if I wear the same capris and white tank all week.

Off to the airport - Steve took us early to Fargo - it was rather calm and quiet. (very good for a first timer). Walking in I pictured "Amazing Race" -- I was prepared. Tennis shoes, comfortable clothing, cash, my cellphone and more. Steve saw us in to the airport... We joked that he could be our "cameraman" -- well cameraman wasn't suppose to leave his truck unattended in the front row. The loudspeaker announced that the vehicle must be moved or towed. He promptly moved it.

Next to screening/security - makeup out, cellphone out, shoes off, medicine out, jacket off == I passed!

Boarding the plane, Mom reminded me that she was with me the "first time" I flew. I was an infant so have no memories of that trip. It apparently went well -

The clouds looked like a very soft downy lining and the sun shined through. We continued our trip to O'Hara in Chicago and then off to New Orleans. It was all very uneventful and went very smoothly... Uneventful to me is just perfect!

Once in New Orleans, we found our way to an eating establishment called "Cheesecake Bistro" -- this visit we enjoyed our meal and would have liked to have dessert -- cheesecake, of course, but we were both too full. Maybe next time.

Thank you Honey for the Mothers Day gift -- Love ya!

Vernie's Garden! July 14, 2009

Beautiful Sunflowers!

This sunflower looks abit shy! Or perhaps playing Peek-a-boo

Hidden in a corner are a few pink flamingos -- not everybody has pink flamingos in their gardens. Some folks play silly games with them like putting them in their friends yards when they aren't looking. These flamingos look very content --

Looks like Vernie planted some "whimsy" -- you know he can get anything to grow!

Countdown to Fair -- 2 Weeks!

Walking pigs -- almost a daily chore just before the fair. The goal is to walk not run and not be stubborn!

Looks to me like they have made friends -- wonder if it has anything to do with a "treat" -- See you at the fair!

Demo Driver and His Pit Crew

It has been a few years since we have gone to a demolition derby. And a demolition derby is always more fun when you know the drivers out their crashing up their cars! Our son came home said he was a member of the "Pit Crew" -- so off we went!

A good Demo Driver needs an awesome "Pit Crew" --- Meet "Pit Crew" --
