Thanksgiving and Weekend

Thanksgiving this year was at Mom
and Dad's with extended family.  We
spent our day visiting with family on
both sides and then headed home
for some down time and to get
ready for the weekend.

The next morning we headed to Duluth - to
take in (for the first time) the Snocross Races.
Our plan was to take in some Duluth activities
Friday night and then the finals of the Snocross
on Saturday day/night.

Then with the upcoming storm involving almost the
entire state we decided to take in the Snocross
races on Friday night so that we could stay
close to our hotel area if it did snow.

The conditions were perfect for racing...  it is
like dirt bike racing but on snowmobiles.

We learned Snocross ~ they go fast and jump
high.   The spectators could watch outside or
from the chalet inside (we did both).  The sleds
driven by the pros are loud and the 200 Stock
sleds driven by the kids are fun to watch!

There was a winner Friday night ~ he was
from Oppdal, Norway (Ishoel, 21 yrs old) and
he won $10,000., he drove a Ski-Doo.

The races on Saturday were cancelled in the
afternoon and the Sunday races didn't even
start -- ironically due to snow and
snowy conditions.

The storm predictions were to bring alot of
snow 8-12" and then lake effect snow was
another 16".   So a boatload or shitload of
snow (however you want to describe it).

We began making plans to head home Saturday
morning - the hotel was easy to work with.
As Saturday arrived - other areas of Downtown
Duluth began closing up or cancelling (so our
Plan B wouldn't have happened anyways).

We returned home on snowy roads but
nothing other than usual winter driving.  Sunday
morning we woke up to a good amount of snow
at home and read stories about the extensive
snowfall and closures in Duluth.

Winter has arrived!
