Funeral and Cousins

We saw lots of family over the
weekend for the funeral
of Uncle Ken.

Friday night there were many stories
shared.

Saturday, at the funeral, a picture
of the cousins was captured (this would
be Uncle Ken's children and the children of
his two siblings).

So my hubby's cousins.

The last time they were all together
may have been in 2009 for
their Grandma Grace's funeral.

Alot of Rain

Last Saturday, we finally got some
rain (a little bit anyways).

And then Sunday, the gates
really opened up!

5 1/2" and it continued to rain ~ that
amount of moisture causes the
water to start running.

We usually only have running water
in the pasture when the snow melts.

By 10:40 pm we had 6 1/2" and
then over a 1/2" in the next day =
crazy amount of water.

We will take it, the trees and grass are
loving it!

Fall Colors

A trail ride up to the Smoky

Hills on Saturday.

There is some color there.

We had gotten a good 1/2" of rain so

there was no dust.

~~~~
Then after that we really got a lot of rain
9/24 by 11 pm we had gotten
over 6" of rain.
We are heading into
Fall, the fawns are growing.
and the deer are moving around.
The fall colors are really coming
on and the deer are getting darker.
Pumpkin Patch and ...
Once we got home it was time to
start wrapping up the garden.
Some of the zucchini went wild while
we were gone   :)
The potatoes had just been
harvested so it was real easy
to grab a few.
there should be enough for
bean soup.
And the pumpkin patch ~ I had
some helpers (which was a good
thing).   The weeds got out of hand
this year so we really had to search
for the orange.... and a few
watermelons
The pumpkins were all pretty small
this year but that is ok, they will
be fine for decorating.
We had a few watermelon and then I
found quite a few later when
cleaning up the vines.
~~~~~

There are still a few pepper plants in
garden, they will be coming out soon.

The rhubarb plants are drying down
and
the strawberry plants, well I still have
strawberries coming.  I will be
working on the rest of the garden
soon ~ fall is here.

Rest In Peace

 We were home just a day or so and

we got a call that Hubby's Uncle Ken had

passed away.

We had thought about this Uncle

        quite a bit while on our road

trip.   His elk hunting trips were to

the outback areas on the edge of Montana

into Idaho.  (we weren't far from some

of that area).

        Uncle Ken ponying our horse Rusty.

~~~~~
My hubby was very fortunate that
Uncle shared this world of adventures
with him.   Their hunting was done
with horses.  There are sooo many stories.
        Hubby
~~~~~

I was also fortunate since hubby took

me with on this adventure during the

summer of 2001.    We packed in

14 miles.  I am thankful that I was

able to capture some of the area

of these adventures.

                              Uncle Ken helped us prepare for

our summer adventure.

~~~~~~~
Connections were made and
one of our young horses went
full-time as pack horse with a friend
of Uncle Ken's. The horse, Snuffy, lived
the rest of his days there in the mountains.
Another horse, Rusty (who we still
have) spent some summers in the
mountains packing.  The best
training a horse could have!
~~~~~

So many stories ~  Rest in Peace Uncle

Ken, the adventure is now all yours free

of pain.  Rest High on Those Mountains!

Good To Be Home

 Vacation is good ~ we both commented

we "didn't think about work".   Now that

is a good thing!

Life at home was all good ~ no

emergencies.

We had a good weekend home getting

settled back in and now back to work.

The dogs were really happy to see us ~
they spent 7 nights at the boarders ~ we
heard they did well!   Teeter was besides
herself with excitement.

And all ready to go anywhere in
the side-by-side.

We had a couple of check ins during
the week to feed
the cat and check on everything.

And a good babysitter sending me
a daily report

This was a great idea ~ daughter
recommended it.   A handy little tripod
for the cellphone and you can use the
camera (it even has a remote) so
it worked really well!
(much better than a selfie)

and then you can edit the
picture ~ I wish pictures with
a cellphone were more like
a picture with a camera.  I wonder
if there is a filter out there?

Another thing is I find that cell
phone pictures don't reproduce
very well.

Glacier National Park (Part 2)

From Babb, MT we headed back into
the park on a dirt road along
Lake Sherburne.

to the Many Glacier area.
The hotel had just closed the day
we visited  but
the parking lot was mostly full.

We found a spot and headed out
to take a look at this area.

The Many Glacier area is listed as the top
thing to do in Glacier.   The hotel was
built by the Great Northern Railway
in 1914.

and it is pretty stunning.   There were
some renovations done in 2016.

Hiking is very popular ~ as you look out,  I
wonder how many people are out there
on the trails?

On our drive drive back down the Going To
The Sun Road the traffic was stopped ~
this Bighorn Sheep was close to the
road (eventually he came up on the road
and then turned around).

The Going To The Sun Road took most
of the day.   We didn't see many things
because of full parking lots ie:  lodges.  We saw
one of the Visitor Centers.

We had planned two days in the park but unless
you hike or add alot more time and go to
the Canadian part of the park there is really
just the Going to the Sun Road.

It is beautiful ~ I purchased a book that
has lot of the history on the book.  So far
it is quite interesting.

Glacier National Park (Part 1)

There was some road construction heading
into the park ~ so dirt roads, they kept it
watered down so a little bit muddy and
many others heading into the park
with us.

The scenery was beautiful!

The Three Arches

Wild Goose Island resides in Saint
Mary Lake ~ there is a popular pullout
in the park where you can see the island.  They say
it is the most photographed part
of the park (that could
be because the visitor center and
other pullouts have people and signs
indicating the lots are full.   This pullout had
plenty of room to get out, sit and
view the scenery.

It is beautiful!

We saw waterfalls and glaciers
from afar.

We went into one of the Visitor Centers
which was at the top of the Going To The
Sun Road ~ St. Mary Visitor Center

It was packed, we got lucky and
found a parking spot.   The center
was busy ~ the theme here at
Glacier is hiking.  The majority of the
park is for back country hiking.

There are many trails and we could
have done some of them but we
had not researched and
prepared for that (not fans of
meeting an ol' grizzly bear).

We originally had not planned to
come to the park because of the
reservation requirement ~ then just
before we headed out on our trip we
found out that reservations end
just before we would arrive.

We headed out of the park north
to Babb MT (we were 14 miles from
the US / Canada border.

Did you know part of Glacier Park
is in Canada and it is known as
Waterton Lakes National Park?
We didn't make it that far north
but maybe another trip.
