It Does Feel Like Fall

It was a busy week and the

Cool, rainy ~ I am trying
to adapt.

rain, some slush and even a
dusting of snow.

Carving Pumpkins

Sunday afternoon carving
pumpkins!

The boys had their plan and really didn't
need much help.  (the youngest Grand
#7 was taking a nap and did his
later).

lots of pumpkin goo

the little carving knives are
sure handy

and make it so much easier
for the kids to do the cutting
themselves.

And done!   They turned out so cute!

Happy Halloween Week!

Busy Weekend

We had a hard frost Friday morning.
So more work to do, to finish
getting ready for the winter.

It was time to clean up the zinnia
plants.  I capture the seeds to keep
for the winter and to replant.  This
was the first year I tried this and it
worked out really well so that
is the plan for next spring for seeds.

Visited the aunts who were
gathered and working on a big
family project.

I visited and helped with some
modge podging.   It was fun to
see everybody.  (they are busy
making a family game which
involves a picture of everybody
in the family).   :)

With the forecast calling for cooler
temps, the strawberries were put
to bed.  This was will be the 3rd
year using this ag fabric.  So far
so good.   This year instead of logs
all the way around, I am using the
garden stakes (we will see how it
holds up through the winter).

I decided to cover the peonies up
also instead of using straw.

Hopefully this works, the straw is
kinda messy and doesn't help with
the weeds.

More items coming off the list.
The garden is now ready for the
winters' sleep.

Horses & Mister Jack

We have started feeding hay more
steady now to the horses.   The
weather is getting sometimes
frosty at night.

Still covering the pumpkins
and the mum plant.

Mister Jack (the kitten) is really growing
and I am finally seeing him do
some hunting.

I think ol' cat, Mitts, gets a little
irritated with him.  :)

One day during work, he was pretty
entertaining in the tree/bush right
out my window.

I have seen him with some prize
mice but this day the birds were
picking on him.  :)   he wasn't
successful and that is ok.

Picking Mushrooms

I noticed we had mushrooms
growing in the yard ~ a lot of
mushrooms.

A family member had a friend last year
whose dog got deathly sick and after
some time it was determined from
eating mushrooms. (the dog survived).
  So I was off to
do some research...

Good ol' google said they appear to be a
"Blewit", they grow on decaying matter
such as leaves, pine needles and rotting wood.

It further said, if a dog eats a blewit or any
wild mushroom it should be treated as
an emergency.

We have had one or two mushrooms show
up in the yard at times and I haven't worried
about it but there was quite a few all over our
main yard and where the dogs would be
tied.

For removal, it was suggested to pull
the mushroom (getting all of it), put in
a bag and discard to the garbage.

You don't want the spores to get
spread area.

Interesting for sure, better safe
than sorry.

Tamaracks

 The tamaracks are changing...

turning golden.

This happens to be right on our road.

~~~
Painting completed and we
have some red, white and blue!
~~~

We had our first true fall day this
week = rainy, gloomy and
very windy!

Looking forward to the sunshine
the next few days.

Another Weekend

 of wrapping things up for

winter.

Checked a few more things off

of the list ~ that is always a

good feeling!

Also removed Mom and Dad's air

conditioner.  No more a/c until

next year.

Our fields are back to dirt.

I have made what might be the last
drive up in the woods before
hunting begins.

It is peaceful and calm ~ and
good for a person.

We made a Sunday visit, here
Hubby is showing some drone
footage of the corn harvest
to his dad (that big equipment).

Another good fall weekend.

Projects While Weather is Gloomy

This pumpkin decor needed some
updating....

I removed the raffia bow and
gave it some new paint.

The wooden flag that we have had
since gosh I don't remember, the
kids were in school.

I purchased it from our neighbor,
Heidi's, craft sale one year.

The blue will be finished and then
I will have to add a coat of
sealant once it warms up.

Corn Harvest 2025

The corn harvest, in our fields, is now done.
Most of it was done on Monday, of course,
we had to watch and take some pictures.

They worked after dark...

and then finished the last of it this morning.

Corn Harvest 2025

Today, they started to harvest the corn
across the road from our place.

It is the hum of machinery and semis
moving slow on the road.  And some dust.

Our fields will be next, we will once again
be able to see across the field.

I took a drive around to get some  pictures of the
cornfields (this is only the 2nd time we have
had corn in our fields).

The corn with the Smoky Hills in the
background.

The corn and the pathways.
