Red Flag Warnings - Wind

Wow for windy yesterday and into today!

This was last night, the air was full of
dirt and you had to hang onto
everything when outside.

After dark, I could still see our flag pole
really getting whipped around (hopefully it
stays upright).

Yesterday was warm with warm wind, today
it is cold and there are snowflakes in the air.

And the wind is still blowing.

Around the Yard 3.21.21

My first spring walk around the yard
was on March 21st.

The gardens were still very wet.

Still frost in the ground since there
was a bit of ice  and
some standing water.

The rhubarb is coming up!   Last year
I planted "alot" of rhubarb so we
should have more than plenty
this year.

Looks like these guys are ready for
garden season too!   They like
to hang out when we are
doing garden stuff!

Spring is coming....

Succulents In A Box

I received a birthday gift in the
mail ~ pretty interesting!

Succulents to plant
and hopefully I can get them to grow.

The packaging was pretty interesting
consisting of wood wool and a
biodegradable pot (there are two
little succulents in there)

A layer of small rock, sand, special
mix dirt for succulents.

Planted a String of Dolphins and a
Donkey's Tail that hopefully are
adjusting to their new home.

I have done some research on each
plant and hope they thrive!

What a neat idea ~ thank you!

Warmer Weather - Kodi and Zoey

Warmer weather is good for everybody
(animals included).   Old Zoey is
doing well and venturing out soaking
up some sunshine.

And Kodi has rebounded and
is eating real well and putting
some weight back on.  We think
she had a sick bug and it just
took some time to get past it.

(she is a very low energy, lazy
dog so sometimes she is
difficult to read).   Someone
asked us one time "what does
she do?"  Our answer,
Pretty much nothing!  :)

here she is watching the horses at the
fenceline while they eat.

The horses are a bit sassy and
frisky with this nice weather!

full of spring ideas!

Some Organizing / Spring Cleaning

 Gosh where did the week go?

The weather has gotten warmer as the

week has gone by.... some warm sunny

weather, I hear, will be here for the

weekend and the 1st day of Spring.

looking forward to flowers ~
these were in the cemetery
last year

Spring time filled with muddy, dirty

human feet and doggy feet.  I am

sweeping the floors daily+.

I have been busy with work ~ crazy

days with some extra projects or

assignments to finish at the end of

the day.   I am sure happy it is lighter

out later so there is plenty of time to

get some things done outside.

My spring To-Do List is growing!

It is that time of the year!

I completed the re-organizing of my

cookbooks, I have two that are in

3-ring binders with favorite

recipes (one is for my low carb

recipes).   And then I have a small

pile of those recipes I would like to

try, they don't get put in the binder

until they are proven "good ones".

Happy 1st Day of Spring weekend
to you!

Repeat Weekend

We had another weekend where
Saturday was absolutely gorgeous,
sunny~calm~melting snow.

We all, humans and four-legged
family members soaked up some
sun rays!

and Sunday was nice but windy
(the wind was chilly).

We have a trickle of water running in the
pasture (way different than most years).

This is what we have left of the last
snow and more snow in the tree line
by the field.

Friday night we enjoyed a "carry out"
meal for a fundraiser for our local school
wrestling program.   They also give away
"big money" ~ we were one short on a
$300 cash prize and made it quite aways
to the end.

Our meal was delicious!

The pork ribeye wrapped in bacon
was excellent!

Later in the evening we were able
to watch the drawings live
at home.

Favorite Memories ~ A Treasure

One of my favorite things at the farm
where I grew up is the windmill.

When Grandma and Grandpa came
to Minnesota with their young family
the pumphouse / windmill was
on the farm.

taken mid-50's

1977

1982

I continue to search for pictures of the
pump house (which is on the edge of
both of these pictures).  The
pump house for me was my horse
tack room, this is where I stored my
horse tack and horse supplies and
dad had lots of tools and farm stuff
on the other side.

The door opened against the north wall
and on that wall we had boards (or
anything tall for the saddles to set on.

~~~~~~~
Dad has been busy making red barn
martin houses, red barns for the
great grands and a couple of log cabin
martin houses.  Once he was done with
Christmas gifts, I had an idea of
what I wanted him to make.....
A replica pump house complete
with a windmill.
February 2021
February 2021
Mid-February it was a go... it was
a combination of ideas with Dad doing
the designing, building and Mom
assisting with the painting.
I had to locate a windmill.
It was finished last weekend and I am
excited to share!
In my memory, the pumphouse had
not yet weathered so grey therefore
my pumphouse is starting out white....
I imagine over some time it will endure
the inside weather and some grey tones
will be added.
Look at this door that Mom painted ~
And the rail for the horses ~
And she added the information to
the windmill.
Hubby also took part with cutting
the plexiglass for the windows, some
staining and he found a piece
of metal to put on the the very top
of the roof.
Overall pretty realistic!
I have a few ideas for a spot
for it to be....  stay tune
Note:  other than the plyboard (green
base and the tie rail) all of the
wood is repurposed.  The wood is
from the farm ~ Dad has taken the
boards that made the hog pens and
stripped the boards down.   The
siding and roofing have a rough
edge which is the side of the
boards that the pigs had chewed
on.  (How cool is that!)
And Just Like That The Snow
 Is Gone....
This was today during my lunch hour.
It is melting, over the weekend we
had an icy driveway now in the yard
we have some mud.
The water in the pasture is running.
Temperatures were in the mid-50's today.
It was nice.
Projects - Baby
The baby blanket project is now
complete ~ flannel rag blanket
probably used more when
baby is a little bit older ~ but
they are triple thick flannel and
pretty darn cozy.
After the sewing was done I visited
the city laundromat for a quick wash.
The laundromat was quiet on Saturday
afternoon (I was a bit surprised and
then also noticed that they are
closed on Sundays).  There were
probably three different people
in there.
Back home, tossed it in the dryer
and then clipped several threads.
It turned out cute and will be perfect
for Grand #6 (who may surprise us
any time soon or closer to his
due date in April).
I may have another project in the works,
there are such cute flannels
out there.
I'll be taking a little break
in between projects to enjoy
the warm weather we are
having.
Hello March
 Hello March ~ we welcome
the warm air of March that
has arrived!
A little chipmunk ~ in the shadows
eating bird seed.
Not much color looking towards the
hills ~ the trees are bare bordered
by some green of the pines.
and a March Sunset.
The temps are warm this week and
the snow is melting making the
driveway and pathways icy.
Getting Old - Zoey
I have been giving our old Zoey cat a
little extra care as we got through the
cold snap.   She has gotten thin this
winter and doesn't seem to want to
deal with the bully cat.   Last summer
she weighed 8.5 lbs at a good weight so
she is a petite girl.   Zoey will be
16 years old this June (which is a crazy
age for a barncat).  She is getting some
canned catfood twice a day (in addition to
what dry food they get) so we will
see how that goes for her and if the
weather warms up we will see
how she rebounds.
I think once she can get her own space
back (when the weather warms up
she will be fine).
The bullycat  is  just
present and has always seemed
to irritate her.  He and his brother
respect when she reacts but I am
sure they are causing her
some stress.
So spring time will be good in
the cat world!
A picture of her in her younger years.
