info - spoiler alert

In 2004, the six issue Avengers/Thunderbolts mini-series was launched, picking up a year after the events of Thunderbolts #75. Zemo led the Thunderbolts (now including Dallas Riordan, under the codename Vantage) in an attempt to drain the powers of all superhumans on Earth, using Moonstone. They fought the Avengers, including former Thunderbolt Hawkeye. The Avenger Iron Man infiltrated the Thunderbolts disguised as Cobalt Man. Eventually, all the power absorbed by Moonstone caused her to snap. Jolt returned from Counter-Earth to help stop Moonstone. Finally, Iron Man convinced Hawkeye to lobotomize Moonstone to save the planet.

Zemo vowed revenge against the Thunderbolts and the Avengers for putting Moonstone into a coma. Jolt returned to Counter-Earth. A depowered Blackheath returned to prison. The Fixer fled. Vantage retired to a government job. Songbird was offered reserve membership in the Avengers but turned it down. MACH-3 was paroled from prison and decided to form a new team of Thunderbolts.

The series was written by Steve Engelhart (with some fill-in issues covered by writers such as Mark Gruenwald) with art by Al Milgrom and Joe Sinnott. This creative team left as of issue #41, and from issue #42 to 57 the title was written and illustrated by John Byrne. The title was also renamed Avengers West Coast as of issue #47, dated August 1989. From issue #58 the creative team varied, although writers Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas and artist Paul Ryan completed the majority of the run.

Comic: Solo Avengers/ Avengers Spotlight

Pretty much a Marvel Teamup with Hawkeye and another Avenger in each issue.

A spin-off from the company's popular team title Avengers, it began life in December 1987 under the title Solo Avengers. It changed title to Avengers Spotlight in August 1989, with issue 21. It was canceled in January 1991 with issue 40.

The format of the title was usually two stories, one featuring the character Hawkeye (a sarcastic archer who had been first introduced to the Avengers title in 1964) and a back-up strip showcasing current or former Avengers who didn't have their own title. Some issues featured one long story, and others dropped Hawkeye altogether.

With issue 35, the comic changed format to exclusively focus on one full-length story (apart from issue 36, which carried a Hawkeye story intended for #35 but not completed in time), in a failed attempt to avoid cancellation.

Solo Avengers was part of a then-current trend at Marvel to expand its various "franchises" such as Spider-Man and the X-Men into as many as a dozen titles, and the name change to Avengers Spotlight (together with the concurrent renaming of West Coast Avengers to Avengers West Coast), with a logo based heavily on that of the parent title was an attempt to force retailers, who usually sorted their comics in alphabetical order, to rack them beside the parent title in an attempt to increase sales.
