OWAC VIII Intro Post - Pablol's Imperial Guard

This will be my first OWAC. I was originally planning on building a 2nd edition Emperor's Children army, but changed my plans last autumn. As there seems to have been so many Slaanesh armies recently, I decided to go for a 2nd edition Imperial Guard army. I got back into miniature wargaming two years ago with a few Mordheim campaigns and started collecting some old miniatures I never had when I was younger.

Second edition 40,000 has always been a sweet spot for me. I started collecting 40k at the end of 3rd edition, played mostly during 4th edition and stopped sometime at the beginning of 5th. I remember spending one summer in the mid 2000's playing Necromunda with my little brother and dreaming of one day also playing 2nd edition 40k. Already back then a lot of codices and books were quite well available as diy pdfs.

I lived in Scotland from 2009-2012. Ebay prices weren't as wild as they are now so I managed to buy the original Necromunda books and a few 2nd edition 40k books. I also bought a few gangs worth of figures. For this army I'm going for a mid 90's Imperial Guard look, but with lots of tanks. My infantry will be based on Cawdor gangers, but I haven't decided yet if they will be fanatics, heretics, cultists, or something else. I'll leave my wild card month to define their alignment with some allied forces.

Tanks aren't quite finished, few models are still missing limbs and I haven't primed anything yet, but I think I've got everything I need to finish a complete army.

The 2nd ed. Imperial Guard force organization chart is quite complex as it’s a combination of command HQ hierarchy and the standard Army selection percentage limitations.

The three Imperial Guard units and three tanks should cover the monthly requirements and add up to almost 1000pts. The Imperial Agents will be a nice bonus to get past the 1000pts. I do also have some more tanks, but that would mean quite a lot more infantry to paint.

I test painted one Cawdor. They might end up looking something like this.

Pokrzyw's Sisters of Battle - Introduction Post - OWAC VIII

It's glad to introduce myself third time. I've finished two editions (V with High Elves and VII with Dark Elves). I was pretty sure that this time I would not gather enough models for participation (especially that V edition Vampires are banned). But.. I dig into my boxes and I realised that I have some Sisters of Battle still unpainted. This time there will be no elves. Time of holy trinity (bolter, flamer, melta) is coming.

I'm Piotr Krzywicki, living in Wrocław (Poland). Sisters of Battle was my first love in dark nineties. Unfortunately I have no enough funds for playing two games. That time i stay with WFB. Codex Witchhunters, plus 6th edition of WFB causes my turn to Dark Milennium. I sold Bretonnians and bought first boxes of Sisters of Battle. I played them until plastic Sisters was introduced.. My huge optimism was put out. I turned back to WFB. For WH40k I have Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle and some inquistitorial forces, some support gives Imperial Knights. In case of WFB you know my High and Dark elves for 4th edition, but in addition I have some newer armies: all kind of elves, Empire, Dwarves and Bretonnians (still in boxes after ToW release). Vampires still somewhere in plans.

Sisters of Battle for 2nd edition is designed as support army. Very limited options caused that all time there would be more and more sisters. Let's try to brake this convention using some 3rd edition inquisitorial force in Wild Card Month and huge gang of Necromunda Orlocks as a mob of frateris militia band.

A few models are painted, some partly painted. All of them would be washed to pure metal :o)

Plan:

Leader's Month (473)

  • Canoness (combi-flamer), Bodyguard Unit (5), Banner Bearer - 315
  • Missionary (shotgun) - 25
  • Redemptionist Zealot as a Preacher (chainsword)- 12
  • Redemptor Kyrinov, Arch-Confessor - 121

Rank & File 1 Month

  • Battle Sisters Squad (veteran sister superior power sword, 4 sisters, specialist meltagun, specialist hflamer) 232
  • 3 additional sisters to fullfil 10 models/month

Rank & File 2 Month

  • Battle Sisters Squad (veteran sister superior power sword, 4 sisters, specialist meltagun, specialist multimelta) 261
  • 3 additional sisters to fullfil 10 models/month

Rank & File 3 Month

  • Battle Sisters Squad (veteran sister superior, 4 sisters, specialist flamer, specialist hflamer) 228
  • 3 additional sisters to fullfil 10 models/month

Rank & File 4 Month

  • Frateris Militia band (mix of weapons, hstubber, boltgun,2xshotgun) - 108

Wild Card Month

  • 10 models (2 inquisitors, 8+ henchmens)

TOTAL 1302 points (w/o inquistorial warband and additional sisters).

Extras - some ladies that are not in army. Including that one from the best picture from cover of codex in WH40k universe - canones Veridyan!

It is core of my army. There are some options to include some SM allies or vehicles (rhino/immolators) as a support - the matter is about availability of purchasing miniatures. If wild card month goes smoothly maybe some 3rd edition repentias would be on table.

I wish good luck to all OWAC8 participants!

Feral obscenity and the vilest depravation, here come the Minotaurs of Slaanesh ! Introducing Slaaneshchild next infamous project...

So here we are !! Another OWAC !! I had in mind to build a dark elves army with only dark raiders and dragon riders. But unfortunately, I am a bit short on money at the moment so I can't afford it. I had in mind this project of "only big creatures"... so I unearthed them an I realized I had an entire horde of minotaurs (and friends).

Humm... And what can be more depraved and repulsive than a minotaur dedicated to Slaanesh ?

It works pretty well with my other projects as I did Warriors of Slaanesh for my first OWAC, Daemons of Slaanesh for my second OWAC... this one come beastmen and minotaurs, this is pretty obvious.

Of course, the horde will gather around a Keeper of Secret, this is mandatory to me and KoS looks like a minotaur.

I am also thinking of making a daemon prince, like a former minotaur champion that has risen to daemonhood.
I will have 2 packs of minotaurs, some ungors also, and some Slaangors.

I have also this RP Box that I do want to paint. Those miniatures are dream I couldn't afford when I was a child. So today I am realizing it !! I will play them as harpies. Maybe I will make a regiment of renom of my own.

I have converted Fenryll ogres into minotaurs. And here is their "king" :D
I wanted to make a minotaur shaman, but without creating rules, so here he comes : a minotaur hero with the crown of sorcery... I tryed to make as ridiculous as possible and I am pretty proud of me, he looks scary. He reminds me Art the Clown in Terrorizer.

I also made a minotaur daemon prince... He will be my minotaur lord.

A keeper of secret is also sneaking around...

Behold the master of the Horde !!!!!

The kinkiest baggage train ever !!!!

In Provence, we have a legend of a monster name "La Tarasque". It was supposed to live in the swamp between Avignon and Arles during the Middle Age. I had this weird miniature and I decided to add it to my horde. I will play it as a medusa or an hydra.

My beastmen. Some are creatures from RAFM and Metal Magic Dunwitch Detective range, some are very old citadel minatures, some just oldhammer stuff, It will work well together.

Here are my ungors/lesser beastmen/thug, depending on which edition I am playing with. They are orcs from LotR from RP range I think. Those miniatures are fantastic. I am impressed by the lever of detail.

Everything comes to an end, here is my army list ! (4th ed army list)

Minotaur Lord (Minotaur Daemon Prince)                                            380 pts

Minotaur Champion                                                                                110 pts

Keeper of Secrets                                                                                    750 pts

6 minotaurs with banner (additional weapons)                                       287 pts
6 minotaurs with banner (2 handed weapons)                                        294 pts

12 Harpies                                                                                              180 pts

1 Tarascus (count as Gorgon / Hydra)                                                    110 pts or 200 pts
Total :  2925 pts or 3015 pts !! It looks almost like a genuine army list !

That's all my friends ! I hope you'll enjoy following this project. Can't wait to see yours !
Cheers,

Laurent, (Slaaneshchild)

ZeroTwentythree's Eldar Pirates - Intro Post

 ZeroTwentyree's Eldar Pirates
(the sequel)

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Wait. That's not it. I start over.

In 2021 I went sci-fi for the Old World Army Challenge IV before returning to fantasy for the next two years and then sitting out last year's Challenge. Now I return to the +/-41st century in 2025!

My OWAC4 project was a small RT era Eldar Pirate force, the Crew of the Cold September. It was based on the Eldrich Raiders list from Chapter Approved: Book of the Astronomican and a few White Dwarf articles that expanded that list. A few liberties taken, as explained in my entries from that project, due to the half-baked nature of those old lists.

This year I will expand the crew. There will be additional rank & file infantry, but quite a bit more support -- both troops and equipment -- this time. Strictly speaking I will mostly be sticking with RT era figures, some of them from the later period when the Craftworld Eldar list first came out in WD (like the scouts). And some weird stuff. There is a method to my madness. Or a madness to my method. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Trust me...

The Pics of the Plan

As you can see, there are some interesting surprises in store! Boy, that *** redacted *** could be difficult, but I think I can pull it off. Wish me luck!

* Based on past years, The Plan is more like guidelines than what you'd call actual rules.

Björn Grendel's Unberogenes

Some concept models...

Sigmar, leading His tribe in battle.

So here we are. My First OWAC. I wanted to join since the First time I heard of it, a couple of years ago, so I took courage to ask and FINALLY i'm here... Before digging in the project itself, a Little something about myself: Im a 40 y.o. modeller and painter, based in north-east Italy. I said modeller First because I do love making and converting or simply put together stuff more than I like to paint (the boring part, imho) but most important I am NOT a player. Not anymore, at least. I used to play warhammer fantasy 5' and 6' edition, the best ones, but I was Always in love with old lore, models and artwork, not to mention the old panting style. Thats why I'm here. The project I will present is not exactly ment to be played, or at least not with the 3' edition ruleset, so I Hope not to mess up totally with the points and composition rules..

So onto the project...

"In a time before time, mankind was the prey. hidden in Shadows and Fear, men and women shivered against monsters and animals; the Orcs from the plains and the Fimir from the swamps. But those were only the lesser threat for humanity, for many horrors more lurked in the darkness"

"But then a child was Born, under the miracle of a two-tailed comet, a child destined to gather the sparse tribes of men and lead them in a new age of Hope...

-THE UNBEROGENES-

I Always liked the dark ages, the barbarians and such. In almost every setting (especially in Conan lore and his child Warhammer) and in our actual History, so obviously, my first steps in the miniature were when as young boy I first bought some Mirliton's blister of Mark Copplestone metal barbarians in a store in Florence and then my passion was born. More than 25 years have passed since then and FINALLY I have the chance to gather my old models and build a proper army with the skill set and the possibilities I have now.. so I stripped some old painted models, kept some other I still like and made a rapid count. Not enough.

So I bought some reinforcement, very glad to discover that Mirliton is still on business and still produce in metal the old range I knew and love. So new oldschool lead It Is. And also now I have no moral issues in modify or convert those Barbarians.

The concept is simple.

I wanted a barbarian force, with beefy naked savages in the good old '80s style, and import it in the Warhammer world to represent the hard boiled people before the unification, before the empire. In those turbulent times of Legend.  Can I make something cooler than this? Surely not.

If you think there is something more epic in Warhammer, you are WRONG

And so, After opening some blisters like I were 15, I FINALLY came up with this:

Here some warriors and leaders, still to be sorted. I plan to make one or two warbands with banner and such..
Barbarian cavalry. Some more armor on them, maille, mainly, but will work. Those count as the elite warriors of the tribe.
Barbarian hunters, those will be skirmisher. I plan to mount on round bases to better fit that role.
A Little oddity: a metal recast of THE BARBARIAN, the One that need no further presentation... I honestly dont remember were he came from or when I bought/found him, but that is a cool add to my project, even if it is not an original cast. He is metal so I let him in.
Bonus point, this should be and old representation of Sigmar himself, as in the Heroquest rulebook so is stated...

The force so far. Still missing some leaders, a couple models more and conversions, but I have already some plans to spice them up... (And a couple of Surprises left on purpose out of Pic)

Still Im unsure if I want to include a model for Sigmar himself or not: I also love the idea that the Hero of mankind is not even born yet, and so using his father, Björn Unberogen as a warchief .. lets keep this for the future (and if I find a suitable model)

After a long long decision process I FINALLY chose to refer to 3rd edition chaos army list. I know, I know, is chaos and shouldn't be, but honestly I think that the only units vaguely similar to barbarians in the period GW ruleset are Chaos thugs and marauder, or at least as far as I know, so I build a "count as" army, knowing for sure that human tribes BEFORE the empire were not that different from the Norscan, at that time before time. I'm still new to these rules and still have no idea how to define Heroes, command groups and such, so I want to keep stuff as simple as possibile. Here the main pages of the book.

The only rules composition I really understood is that I must have less points in Heroes than in troops, easy. I still Plan to NOT play with this ruleset, but when my kids grow up enough we surely field those barbarians, most probably with another system or at least whfb 5 or 6 ed . Enough words, here the list.

See you soon. Keep yourself oldschool..

JohnR's OWAC VII Intro Post - Mini's From My Childhood (Well, Mid-Teens).

Back for another OWAC (unfortunately I had to miss last year’s due to stress and family issues).

My early thinking was to do another WFB army, possibly Dwarves or Empire or maybe ‘Axis of Evil 2 - Son of Aksys!’

However 2024 is shaping up to be hectic: I’m playing Kingdom Death with a group of mates and we’re currently on Lantern Year 11. I’m also painting and playing a crazy amount of Legions Imperialis (the latest edition of epic for the uninitiated :) and Max and I are planning to move abroad towards the end of the year, so I figured a small project would be best.

Consequently I’ve settled on some old Rogue Trader lead. Most of these minis I’ve had for about 35 years now, man and boy, we’ve been through a lot together in that time and they deserve to finally get some paint.

I had an overarching story for each of my last two armies and appropriately enough this project is based on the denizens of an Imperial Rogue Trader's fleet as they explore the twilight zone at the very edge of the Imperium, searching for trade, treasure, fame and glory.

To that end, and in line with the design aesthetic of 1st edition 40K, the army will be made up of about half a dozen small contingents. This will allow me to break the collection down into little units of related minis, then paint a different group each month, coming up with a little fluff / story for each group as I go.

First up will probably be the Adeptus Mechanicus:

There are a few more Servitors in the dip, which should make it into the final force.

Secondly, Squats - indentured warriors undertaking their compulsory service in the Imperial Armed Forces:

Troops of the Jovian Dawn Mercenary Company:

Imperial Sanctioned 'Privateers' (Space Pirates):

Agents of the Inquisition and Officio Assassinorum:

And finally my leader - Lieutenant Fairfoot, her retinue and some Imperial Arbites:

There are more minis than are in the photos – some are in the dip, having old paint removed, others are more esoteric and might not make the final cut. Oh and there are a few duplicates in the mix so my Secret Santa Overlord Offering will be one of those; to be painted and revealed next month.

On to the challenge, good luck everyone!
