Filippo's Bretonnia: Rank and file 3 - 145 Points

"Chaaaaaaarge!"

“Did you have the right pictures this month??”

“Yeah.. sort of”

Last month I wrote an article about the Men‑at‑Arms unit… and I ended up taking the pictures of the archers. Great job, truly a great job.

So this month! Here’s a unit of ten “Archers” :D

The background looks more “realistic” because I managed to ruin the sheet of paper right before taking the photo, and the printer decided that it was fine like that.

Michael Perry’s halberdiers are full of character, and they can hold their own against many more recent models.

It was harder to find the plastic shield..

A great plus of these models is that are really useful with Mordheim! Halberds FTW!

The color scheme is the same as the archers; I’m keeping the same livery for all the main units, but starting next month I’ll begin introducing some variations.

This month I didn’t add anything new to the army, but I did get the chance to paint another band of Restless Dead, sculpted by the incredible Alessio Cisbani.

"Braaaaaaaiiinnnssss"

The first version was done in Mousillon colors; this time I decided to use the same palette I’m using for the rest of the army.

The warband is the result of a failed crusade, sometimes even the blessing of the Lady is not enough to win the day.

The time has come for the Leader's month!

See you in May

Filippo's Bretonnia: Rank and File 2 - 145 points

Not an haiku this month!

During the last few editions, February has always been the busiest month, which is why I often called a mulligan. 2026 was no different. I actually almost managed to complete my goal, but I preferred to postpone everything to March.

For this month, I prepared a unit of 10 Men‑At‑Arms with halberds, shields, and command group.

For Bretonnia and the Lady!

Choosing the colors was difficult. I wanted to try something unusual, maybe use the colors of my city, but in the end I went with the classic white and blue for two reasons:

1. They’re the colors that immediately come to mind when I think of Bretonnian infantry.

Fifth edition Bretonnia Supplement

2. I bought more monopose archers and Men‑At‑Arms with spears that are already painted and only need a few touch‑ups, so I can expand my army with less effort.

The paint scheme is fairly simple and easy to replicate when I need to increase the size of the unit. Ten models are perfect for a Border Patrol, but I’ll need at least ten more if I want to play larger games.

So simple, yet so gorgeous

Alongside this unit, I painted a Grail Damsel.

This model was also partially started, but I repainted it entirely, using the previous colors as if they were the primer.

I recently managed to get the mounted version as well, which I hope to add in the coming months.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the work, even if it doesn’t quite capture the fifth‑edition vibe as much as I would have liked. It’s really hard to paint those colors in a reasonable amount of time.

Since I had a couple of fairly free weeks, I got ahead on the work for April, so I’m pretty confident I’ll manage to avoid the field of bones again this time. Let’s hope May doesn’t betray me.

My hopes for May

Filippo's Bretonnia: Rank and File 1 - 176 points

"The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math..."

Okay, we may have a huge problem here. Bretonnia's Knights are waaaaaaay harder to paint as I thought.

"Only five models! It will be such an easy task!"

I wish I could punch me in the face

Anyway, here are my first knights since the last millenium!

Five Knight Errant (176 points) ready to charge my enemy and HOPEFULLY obtain glory to their King and the Lady!

Now let's go back to some good old infantry..

See you next month!

Charge! Filippo's Bretonnia Army - Introduction post

*sound of thundering hooves intensifies

It's good to be back. New year, new OWAC, brand new army. Life is good

For this year I've been granted the opportunity to paint a fifth edition Bretonnia small army. I had the chance to buy a lot of models during the last month and this is the backbone of a much bigger project.

If possibile, I'll do my best to go way beyond my limits. Sleeping is overrated after all.

Here's the list (1004 points)

1 General of Bretonnia (172 points)

1 Hero (74 points)

5 Knights of the Realm (204 points)

5 Errant Knights (176 points)

10 Bowmen (145 points)

10 Squires (124 points)

10 Men-at-arms (145 points)

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I may have bought 70 more bowmen, many Knights (Realm, Errant, and Grail), a Green Knight and Louen Leoncoeur. Some are already painted, the idea is just to fix some details without starting from the primer.

And I still have the undead to finish.. WHAT A YEAR! WHAT A LOVELY YEAR!

My offering is the test models painted many month ago. But in the end I'll stick to the classic blue and white colour scheme

Filippo's Undead - Wrapping up 6 maddening months

"I feel fine, why do you ask?"

I love the smell of decaying corpses in the scorching heat of the Italian summer, it smells like another OWAC finished..

While the original has not been completed, the amount of models painted has exceeded my expectations and in the end it was worth it.

From the original Tier I list there were no time to finish the carrions, the chariot and the Necromancer,  so not a big deal, but on the other hand I managed to complete:
2 Vampires on foot
1 Lahmia
40 additional skeletons with spears
10 Wolves
10 Fell Bats
12 Zombies
5 Bats swarms
5 Spirit Host
1 Wraiths
4 Siege Towers
1 Battering Ram
20ish Woods terrain
20ish Houses and buildings
1 Wizard tower
One set and a half of plastic GW walls
Another foam castle
Many scatters, barricades and fun stuff for the Vampires camp

..and stuff for other games too..

Looking back, I've really exaggerated this year. Many sleepless nights rushing to have all the materials ready both for the Legions Imperialis table at Modena and the Undead and terrain for the Mordheim tournaments, my wife was supportive but concerned. I promised that I would never do that again..

That's why in 2025 we are planning a huge event for WH40K! It's a totally different game!

The siege of Altdorf during the Mordheim Tournament

Altdorf has no hope, the ring was not stolen this time

In July I managed to paint something else before the tournament. I could not have the Von Carstein on the table ready

Vlad and Isabella Von Carstein

Konrad Kurze

Manfred Von Carstein

And something else for The Old World

Black Coach

Zombie Dragon

So, in the end this is the work at the end of July

And this is the complete collection with the models I already painted previously (spot the differences)

I cannot thank enough Davide "Dadde" Ferrari, who lent us his entire Oldhammer collection of Empire and Vampire Counts for the siege, and Davide Giurissini, for building some of the best terrains I've painted and played with

Many thanks to my supportive and REALLY patient wife, and my four years old son, who helped me with some of the terrains. I spent many wonderful hours with him, painting stuff I could have completed in a fraction of the time..

And thanks for all the OWAC partecipants and admins! Your works are amazing!

Now.. where are those goddam Ultramarines?..

Filippo's Undead - Rank And File Month VI

"There's no way you can summon more skeletons.."
"Hold my glass of fresh spilled blood"

39 Skeletons with command squad, plus Clarabella Von Carstein, wife of my recently promoted general Fred Von Carstein.

She's a real beauty!

I promised a horde, so 40 models seems to be a small feat, but the real horde is the ungodly amount of terrain I painted. Here's a small taste of the inner city. I could not take a picture of the entire lot in time and half of the terrain are stored away due to incoming renovations in the house, but pictures will be take next week end at the Mordheim tournament.

I forfait painting some of the oldest stuff, but we needed more skeletons for the siege. This bring the total to 80 (plus 150+ more from other sources)

Altdorf will burn!

See you in July!

Filippo's Undead - Rank and File III

ZOMBIES! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

Far from the massive amount of models painted during the first months, I managed to squeeze ten zombies with command group in May (between a large amount of other stuff not related to OWAC, May is always a busy month)

While not part of my original list, any Undead general always keeps some zombies around, waiting to raise them at the right moment

I'm still missing Vlad and Isabella, the chariot, two carrions and another ghost... lucky me, we have just announced a Mordheim tournament in July, set during the Vampire Wars!

Back to the painting station, a real horde is coming next month..

Filippo's Undead - Shameful leader month

I..

I..

Please have mercy, his name is Fred Von Carstein and he'll be my Leader for now..

Zero point because the base is not finished..

It has been a rough month

Filippo's Undead - Wild Card Month

Group photo

Wild card month! Started and abandoned seven times the main units, I ended up doing a lot of terrains and some stuff for the sixth edition army. At least I have a good start for April..

Starting with ten Fell Bats. A nightmare to paint, really

5 Bats Swarm. I'm so happy, I never used them in the early edition, Don't know why, so it's the first time I own them

What is an Undead Army without a proper cemetery? Part of the Sigmarite Mausoleum

A plastic sets of walls and fences

A plastic forest with detachable trees. I was wrong about the fell bats, this is much worse

My precious! A wonderful Wizard Tower handmade by my friend Davide Giurissini. It's a wonderful piece and it was a joy to paint!

It has a detachable roof too!

After I took the photos, I remebered there were also five more wolves, so this is a picture from outside my garage.

See you in April!

Filippo's Undead - February Rank and File II

Another productive month, and while the models are increasing, the quality of the photos is dropping..

Let's start with the offering, that was still unfinished in january and now it's ready to depart

First unit is actually an extra painted for ToW, a quick drybrush on five wolves (no points). Always loved these models

Then we have six knights with armour (168 points). Probably will add some more when I'll do the chariot

20 skeletons with spears and shield plus standard bearer and musician (200 points). Starting to love the freehands a little less than before..

Classic Banshee, two more will follow in the next months. This will be used as a Ghost (35 points)

Two Wraiths (150 points) from the 5th edition.
Yeah, I should have done 3 and the not these version.. Will do in the following months

Last entry, 10 Ghouls (80 points). Look at the  happy faces! They are not part of the main list but a nice add to the army

Total: 433 points

See you next month!

Filippo's Undead - January Rank and File I

"Welcome back to the land of the livin'... Now pick up a shovel and get digging!"

January complete and I'm really pleased on how they turned out.

Here's the list:

20 Skeletons with shields: 180 points

Classic old plastic skeletons with music and banner. I had few decals, so I freehanded all the shields.

For the banner I used an old drawing I made some time ago when first started to collect again Undead models

8 Skeletons with bows: 80 points

Two models were already painted for my Mordheim warband (Restless Dead)

Screaming Skull Catapult: 74 points

Nothing much to say, except that this model is gorgeous! Loved every small details

EXTRA UNITS: 5 bases of Spirit Hosts (no points)

Part of the sixth edition list, these models are a little extra for January

For the Secret Santa here's an old alternative model for a Dark Elf witch (still working on it)

See you next month!
